James Spear House

The John Ashe House is an 18th-century house at 32 South Battery, Charleston, South Carolina. The house's date of construction is unknown, but it was built sometime around 1782 and renovated in the 1930s. In August 2015, it replaced the James Simmons House as the most expensive house sold in Charleston when it fetched about $7.72 million.The house stands on Lot 45 of a subdivision of the peninsula known as the Grand Model Plan. The house is built of black cypress and is a Georgian double house (also known as a block house). It features a three-story piazza across the width of the southern facade overlooking White Point Garden and has a cupola on the hipped roof. Mr. A. Kinloch McDowell bought the house in December 1937, and sold to Mr. Ashmead F. Pringle, Jr., the vice-president of the Merchants Fertilizer Co., in 1944. The sales price at that time was undisclosed but thought to be near the recent asking price of $40,000, a figure which represented one of the highest sales in Charleston. In an earlier sale, Mr. and Mrs. Howland Spencer of New York bought the house from Mrs. Lane Mullally for $50,000 to use as a winter residence.

The Col. John A.S. Ashe House is a historic home in Charleston, South Carolina along Charleston's Battery. Col. John A.S. Ashe, Jr. received the property upon which 26 South Battery is built upon his father's death in 1828 along with $10,000 for the construction of a house. Col. John A.S. Ashe, Jr.'s father had built the nearby Col. John Ashe House at 32 South Battery in the 1780s. The house he had built by 1853 was designed by Charleston architect Edward C. Jones. It is one of his only extant houses in the Italianate style that swept Charleston in the 1850s. The house features heavy detailing inside the house and an asymmetrical layout of rooms.

The John Edwards House in Charleston, South Carolina was built in 1770 by Colonial patriot John Edwards. During the Revolutionary War, half of the house was used by British admiral Mariot Arbuthnot as his headquarters, while the Edwards family was allowed to remain in the other half.The house remained in the possession of the Edwards family until it was sold in 1844 to Henry W. Conner, who served as the president of the Bank of Charleston. George Walton Williams, whose father built the Calhoun Mansion across Meeting Street, owned the house in the 20th century and added the two-story, large, semicircular piazzas to the house.The exterior of the house is actually black cypress, but the siding has been carved and beveled to look like stone. Inside, the house is a traditional Charleston double house with four rooms to a floor, split by a stair hall.

The William Gibbes House is a historic house at 64 South Battery in Charleston, South Carolina. Built about 1772, it is one of the nation's finest examples of classical Georgian architecture. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970.

White Point Garden is a 5.7 acre public park located in peninsular Charleston, South Carolina, at the tip of the peninsula. It is the southern terminus for the Battery, a defensive seawall and promenade. It is bounded by East Battery (to the east), Murray Blvd. (to the south), King St. (to the west), and South Battery (to the north).

The Patrick O'Donnell House is the largest example of Italianate architecture in Charleston, South Carolina. It was built for Patrick O'Donnell (1806-1882), perhaps in 1856 or 1857. Other research has suggested a construction date of 1865. Local lore has it that the three-and-a-half-story house was built for his would-be bride who later refused to marry him, giving rise to the house's popular name, "O'Donnell's Folly." Between 1907 and 1937, it was home to Josephine Pinckney; both the Charleston Poetry Society and the Society for the Preservation of Spirituals were formed at the house during her ownership.It is a classic example of a side hall plan; the house has large, adjacent rooms on the south side with a piazza and a stair hall that runs along the north side of the house. A carriage house in the baronial style was added along the rear property line in 1888 by Thomas R. McGahan.In 1987, the house was for sale for $750,000, and the Preservation Society of Charleston considered purchasing it. The Society was interested in using the house as a museum house and as its headquarters, and the neighborhood initially supported the plans. Later, the neighborhood changed its position because of worries about parking, and the membership of the Society was split on the proposal. In April 1987, The Society dropped its plans.The house sold for $7.2 million in June 2007 to James Pallotta, a part owner of the Boston Celtics. At the time, the seven-bedroom, 9,700 square foot house's price was the highest ever paid in Charleston for a house. The previous record holder had been the William Gibbes House at 64 South Battery which had sold for $6.1 million in January 2006. The O'Donnell House retained that distinction until the sale of 37 Meeting St. in May 2009 for $7.37 million.

The Williams Mansion (formerly called the Calhoun Mansion) is a Victorian house at 16 Meeting St., Charleston, South Carolina. The mansion is open for public tours.

The William Washington House is a pre-Revolutionary house at 8 South Battery, Charleston, South Carolina. It is the only pre-Revolutionary house on Charleston's Battery. Thomas Savage bought the lot at the southwest corner of Church St. and South Battery in 1768 and soon built his house there. The resulting structure is a nationally important, Georgian style, square, wooden, two-story house on a high foundation.In December 1785, Revolutionary War hero William Washington purchased the house. He and his wife remained until his death in 1810. His widow remained until her own death in 1830, when it passed to her daughter Jane, wife of James H. Ancrum. Since 1916, the house has remained in the family of Julian Mitchell.

The John Drayton House is a two-story wooden residence constructed on property that had been given by the state's first lieutenant governor, William Bull, to his son-in-law, John Drayton. The house was built, probably by John Drayton (the builder of Drayton Hall plantation), some time after 1746 with alterations made in about 1813 and again in about 1900. Over time, the house has been attributed to different owners; during most of the 20th century, the house was credited to James Shoolbred, the first British consul in Charleston, with a construction date of about 1793.

The Dr. William Snowden House was used as a hospital operated by its owner, Dr. William Snowden, and Dr. S nowden's wife, Amarynthia Yates Snowden. When bombardment of the city forced the Snowdens to evacuate to Columbia, South Carolina, the family's silver was buried in the yard; it was not unearthed until the 1920s when a box of the silver was found during landscaping work. After the Civil War, meetings were held in the house that led to the formation of the Confederate Home and College. The house was itself mortgaged to fund the creation of the institution, which existed to care for wives and daughters of Confederate soldiers.

The Louis Gourd House is a Victorian house in Charleston, South Carolina which was once the carriage house of the Calhoun Mansion. The house, built in the 1870s, once included eight stalls, space for carriages, and servants' quarters, but the interior was entirely removed as part of the building's conversion into a residence. The Church Street portion of the lot was divided off from the Calhoun Mansion (facing on Meeting Street) and sold separately for the first time in 1932. When the building was acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gourd in 1939, they quickly hired Charleston architect Albert Simons to plan to remodeling of the building. The house he designed includes a main hall, living room, dining room, kitchen, gun room, and maid's quarters on the first floor with additional bedrooms and baths upstairs. Ironwork on the front and rear of the house was designed by Mr. Simons and includes his initials in the corners.

The Defenders of Fort Moultrie, also commonly known as the Jasper Monument, is a monument in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. Located in White Point Garden, the monument depicts Sergeant William Jasper and was dedicated in 1877 to all South Carolina militiamen involved in the Battle of Sullivan's Island during the American Revolutionary War.
