Box Hill City Oval is an Australian rules football and cricket stadium located in Box Hill, Victoria, Australia. It is the home ground of the Box Hill Hawks Football Club which plays in the Victorian Football League, and the Box Hill Cricket Club which plays in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association. Box Hill City Oval was officially opened in 1937. The capacity of the venue is approximately 10,000 people. The largest official attendance at the ground was on 14 August 1983 when 6,200 people attended a VFA game between Box Hill and Oakleigh. In more recent times a crowd of 5,253 attended a VFL game between the Box Hill Hawks and Williamstown on 19 June 2005. On Melbourne Show Day 1953, the venue hosted a benefit game for the family of Ray Gibb, who had died in an accident in early September, between a combined Hawthorn–Richmond team and a Box Hill team augmented with VFL and VFA stars; the crowd at the time was estimated to be 6,000. The venue has two pavilions and terracing on the western wing, but no grandstand. It is currently the second-choice venue, behind North Port Oval, for VFL finals; it usually hosts finals only in the first week, but also hosted the preliminary finals in 2010 when the North Port Oval surface was unplayable due to rain and overuse.

With an enrolment of 1380 students (as of 2021), it caters for students from years 7 through to 12. Year 10, 11 and 12 students undertake the VCE program. Its school zone includes the suburbs of Box Hill, Box Hill South, Burwood, Burwood East Blackburn, Blackburn North, and Blackburn South.

The Doncaster railway line was a long-proposed suburban railway in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, that was anticipated to be built before December 2027, as a branch, along with the Hurstbridge line, of the planned future Clifton Hill Loop Line, as part of the 2013 PTV Network Development Plan.The Doncaster line would have primarily served the suburbs of Bulleen, Balwyn North, Kew, Templestowe and Doncaster, running along the median strip of the Eastern Freeway for most of its length. First proposed in 1890, detailed planning commenced in 1969, and by 1972 the route was decided upon. Despite rising costs, the state governments of the period continued to make assurances that the line would be built. Property acquisition for part of the route was completed in 1975, and construction of a cutting at the city end commenced in 1974, only to be filled in two years later. By 1982 plans to build the line were shelved by the state government, and by 1984 land for the line once it left the freeway was sold by the Cain Labor government. In 1991 an independent report investigated constructing the line, recommending against it due to the high cost. However several other reports released since the 1970s detail the essential requirement for heavy rail mass transit in the Doncaster corridor. The Doncaster rail line plan is almost identical to the Joondalup line, completed in 1992, and the Mandurah line, completed in 2007, both in Perth, a city with less than half the population of Melbourne. The Mandurah line runs along the centre median of the Kwinana Freeway and through various tunnels. It is almost double the length of the proposed Doncaster line and cost 1.6 billion; trains are able to travel at up to 130 km/h. In 2017-18, as part of the proposed North East Link road project, the median of the Eastern Freeway is set to be removed as part of an upgrade with the addition of a new busway alongside the freeway. This means a rail line to Doncaster along the Eastern Freeway is unlikely to go ahead in the future. However a train service through Doncaster has continued to be proposed as part of the northern section of the Suburban Rail Loop.

Laburnum refers to a small area in the 'Bellbird' area of the suburb of Blackburn, Victoria, Australia. It covers the area bordered by Middleborough and Blackburn Roads, Gardiners Creek and the Belgrave/Lilydale railway line. It is a heavily treed area noted for its Laburnum bushes. It is in the local government area of the City of Whitehorse in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. The area is covered by strict planning controls. This has limited development and meant it has been able to retain a village feel, despite only being a short train ride from downtown Melbourne. It has a railway station, primary school, and post office, despite never being a suburb (technically, it is a "neighbourhood"). The Blackburn Creeklands park is an important community asset of Laburnum providing for both recreation and a wildlife corridor. In 1983, the then Nunawading Council the purchased the middle section of land that integrates and links Blacks Walk, Kalang and Furness Parks into today's long, linear park following Gardiners Creek from Middleborough to Blackburn Roads.

Laburnum railway station is located on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Blackburn, and opened on 13 July 1958.

The Box Hill Town Hall is a landmark civic building located (at 37.8191°S 145.1266°E / -37.8191; 145.1266) on Whitehorse Road, Box Hill, Victoria, Australia. Designed in the Neo-Grec style by architects JS Gawler and JCA Isbett, the town hall was built between 1934 and 1935. It was the administrative and community headquarters of the City of Box Hill prior to that city’s amalgamation with the City of Nunawading to form the new City of Whitehorse in 1994.The town hall is described as having "regional architectural, historic and social importance" by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria). Its imposing façade has been utilised by the television series Neighbours as the external setting for the court house in the fictional town of Erinsborough. The interior includes a main hall and other community and meeting spaces. There are two dates engraved on the town hall’s portico – 1927, the year Box Hill was proclaimed a city, and 1994, the year of amalgamation. The crest of the former City of Box Hill is also featured on the portico. In 2006, the town hall underwent a $6.5 million redevelopment as a hub for community-based services and programs and a home for the City of Whitehorse arts and historical collections.

Box Hill Cemetery is a cemetery located in Melbourne's eastern suburb of Box Hill, Victoria in Australia. It currently occupies 12.5 ha (31 acres). It is known as the resting place of notable figures from Melbourne and its heritage-registered Columbarium and Myer Memorial. Around 50,000 decedents have been interred since the cemetery was gazetted and commenced operations in 1873. The original 10-acre site was extended in 1886 and again in 1935.

Clarence Michael James Stanislaus Dennis (7 September 1876 – 22 June 1938), better known as C. J. Dennis, was an Australian poet and journalist known for his best-selling verse novel The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke (1915). Alongside his contemporaries and occasional collaborators Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson, Dennis helped popularise Australian slang in literature, earning him the title 'the laureate of the larrikin'. When Dennis died, Australia's then Prime Minister Joseph Lyons said he was destined to be remembered as the 'Australian Robert Burns'.
