Handsworth F.C.

High Hazels Colliery was a coal mine situated between the parish of Catcliffe, near Rotherham, and the parish of Handsworth, near Sheffield. It was adjacent to the main line of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway between the stations of Darnall and Woodhouse. The original colliery was owned by Thomas Coupland Hounsfield, a merchant who, until 1900, lived in Paris. In that year he leased the colliery to the Waverley Coal Company, who were already working Nunnery Colliery nearer to the city centre. The pit was small, with, in 1896, only 123 workers. High Hazels No.3 pit was the easternmost colliery of the Waverley group and situated slightly to the east of the other shafts. In 1947, on nationalisation, the colliery became part of the National Coal Board. The site was also home to coke ovens and by-products plant which was served by a 28" gauge railway on which operated 3 locomotives: The first two locomotives were products of Yorkshire Engine Company and were a four-coupled side tank design, Works No's. 546, built in 1897 and 898, built in 1906. The third locomotive was built by Black, Hawthorn & Company, a four-coupled saddle tank locomotive, Works No. 591, built in 1901.The locomotives and system were cut up when the coke ovens closed. High Hazels Park is a 20-hectare parkland area in Darnall, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Since the 19th century, Darnall has been a centre of the coal and steel industry in Sheffield. High Hazels House, located in the park, was built in 1850 by William Jeffcock (the first Mayor of Sheffield). In 1894, Sheffield City Council (the Corporation of Sheffield) bought the land and house from the Duke of Norfolk and Messers Jeffcock for £10,875. In 1895, the land was first used as a public recreation ground and was classed as one of the finest parks within the city of Sheffield. The park used to be home to a boating lake, which has since been filled in.

Sheffield City Airport (IATA: SZD, ICAO: EGSY) was a small international airport in Sheffield; it is now closed. It was in the Tinsley Park area of the city, near the M1 motorway and Sheffield Parkway, and opened in 1997. The airport's CAA licence was withdrawn on 21 April 2008 and it was officially closed on 30 April 2008, and the site is now part of the Advanced Manufacturing Park with various manufacturing businesses.

The Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) is a 150-acre (61 ha) manufacturing technology park in Waverley, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It was partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund, and developed by Harworth Group, previously the property development arm of UK Coal, on reclaimed opencast coal mine land close to the site of the battle of Orgreave.

Bowden Housteads Woods are situated between Darnall and Handsworth, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The woods are encircled by Sheffield Outer Ring Road, Sheffield Parkway and Handsworth Road and are classified as ancient woodlands, having been in existence since the 17th century. The Car Brook flows through the wooded area. Spring brings a carpet of bluebells. The woods are a Local Nature Reserve.

Tinsley Park Cemetery is one of the city of Sheffield's many cemeteries. It was opened in 1882, and covers 19 acres (77,000 m2). The cemetery is still open to burials, and since the first burial on 2 June 1882 over 59,000 burials have taken place. There are buried in the cemetery 42 Commonwealth service personnel from World War I and 32 from World War II. The entranceway to the cemetery is flanked by a pair of Grade II listed Gothic style chapels, where services can be held prior to the burial. Other listed structures in the cemetery include the lodge, gateway and boundary wall and a war memorial, 250m east of the chapel.

Handsworth is a suburb of south eastern Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, England. It covers an area of approximately 5 square miles (13 km2), and has a population of approximately 9,957. It has five schools, four churches, a variety of small shops, a large supermarket, and a range of commercial and light industrial businesses. The Parkway Man, also known locally as "Iron Henry" (even though it represents a steelworker) is a statue located in Bowden Housteads Woods in the Handsworth district of Sheffield, England. The statue is visible from the road, and can be seen by people driving on Sheffield Parkway. The statue can also be viewed using public footpaths in the woods. The statue, made of cast iron and designed by Jason Thomson in 2001, depicts a large man, stripped to the waist and wielding a sledgehammer; it weighs over 3 tonnes and is over 3 metres high. It was originally commissioned by the Sheffield City Council Heritage Woodland Team, as part of a project known as the Fuelling a Revolution project, which was managed by various environmental groups in the area. H.Downs & Sons Ltd. are responsible for designing and casting the statue.

It is one of the wards that made up the Sheffield Attercliffe constituency, now the Sheffield South East constituency.

Darnall Old Ground at Darnall, Sheffield was a first-class cricket venue in the 1820s. It was the home ground of Sheffield Cricket Club which played first-class matches there before relocating to Darnall New Ground.
