Llanafan is a small village between Tregaron and Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, in Wales. Llanafan is around ten miles from Aberystwyth and Tregaron. It is named for its parish church, St Afan's (Capel Afan), which serves as the chapel for the nearby Trawsgoed Estate. (The combined parish is now known as Llanafan y Trawsgoed) Its eponymous saint supposedly founded the settlement in the 7th century. The village also has a hall and primary school founded in 1856 by Ernest Vaughan, 4th Earl of Lisburne, for which it was originally known as the Earl of Lisburne School.The grave of Joseph Butler can be found in St. Afan's graveyard. Butler, a gamekeeper on the nearby Trawscoed estate was shot by a poacher William Richards, known as Wil Cefn Coch, who was reportedly hidden by locals before escaping to Liverpool and sailing to America disguised as a woman. After landing in Pennsylvania Cefn Coch made his way to an established Welsh community in Paddy's Run (Shandon), Ohio (near to the present day Morgan in Butler County) where he lived out his days until his death in 1920. The gravestone reads 'Shot by a poacher' and is dated 1868.

Trawscoed fort is a Roman auxiliary fort in Ceredigion, Wales, located near the modern settlement of Trawsgoed and is cut through by the modern B4340 road. It was first built in the 70s AD. and was occupied until around 130 AD, housing up to 800 infantry in rows of barracks within the 2.1 hectares (5.2 acres) banked enclosure. At its height it could have had a total population of around 2,000 people living at the fort and its extramural vicus. It overlooks the Roman bridge over the River Ystwyth, which is where the road from Pen-Ilwyn to Llanio crosses. In 1959, this site was initially identified via aerial photography revealing a series of parchmarks covering an area of around 20,000 square metres (2 ha). Later explorations increased the knowledge of this site.

Trawsgoed (Welsh for "Crosswood") is both a community and an estate in Ceredigion, Wales. The estate is 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Aberystwyth, and has been in the possession of the Vaughan family since 1200. The Vaughans are descended from Collwyn ap Tangno, founder of the fifth noble tribe of North Wales, Lord of Eifionydd, Ardudwy, and part of Llŷn, who had his residence on the site of Harlech Castle.The land falls within the ancient parish of Llanafan, in the upper division of the hundred of Ilar. In Wales, an ancient parish was a village or group of villages or hamlets and the adjacent lands. Originally they held ecclesiastical functions, but from the sixteenth century they also acquired civil roles. The parish may have been established as an ecclesiastical parish. Originally a medieval administrative unit, after 1597 ecclesiastical units were separated from civil parishes to serve the ecclesiastical needs of the local community. The Trawsgoed estate extended over 22 Cardiganshire parishes, including Llanafan. The community of Trawsgoed has a population of 989 (2011) and includes the villages of Llanafan, Y Gors and Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn.

Ernest Edmund Henry Malet Vaughan, 7th Earl of Lisburne KStJ (8 February 1892 – 30 June 1965), of Trawsgoed, Cardiganshire, was a Welsh nobleman.

Trawscoed railway station was located on the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth Line (originally called the Manchester and Milford Railway before being transferred to the GWR). The station had a signal box on the single platform, a weighing machine, several sidings, and a corrugated iron waiting room and ticket office combined. The estate of Trawsgoed is located nearby.

Abermagwr is a small settlement in the county of Ceredigion, Wales. It is on the B4340 road and is 11 kilometres (7 mi) southeast of the town of Aberystwyth.

Caradog Falls Halt railway station was one of five new halts on the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth Line (originally called the Manchester and Milford Railway before being transferred to the GWR), which were constructed during the 1930s. The halt opened in September 1932 to serve the nearby hamlet of Tynygraig, where a short tunnel ran underneath the road. It was also intended for the convenience of any visitors to the waterfalls. The halt consisted of a timber platform and corrugated iron shelter. The station closed in December 1964 when services were truncated at Strata Florida, following flood damage to the line at Llanilar. Formal closure was confirmed two months later. No trace of the timber halt remains, and the site is now in use as a private garden.

Gaer Fawr is an Iron Age hill fort located near Llanilar, Ceredigion, Wales; the Ordnance Survey grid reference is SN648718. The fort is registered with Cadw under reference number CD050. There are approximately 300 of these forts on the Cadw list, although archaeologists note that there are about 570 of them in Wales.
