Middlesbrough Council

The Borough of Middlesbrough is a borough with unitary authority status in North Yorkshire, England, based around the town of Middlesbrough in the north of the county. It is part of the Tees Valley combined authority, along with Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar and Cleveland, Hartlepool and Darlington boroughs. Nunthorpe along with Stainton and Thornton have statutory parish councils.

Middlesbrough Town Hall is a municipal facility located in Albert Road in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Centre North East, formerly Corporation House, was built in 1974. It is, at 19 storeys and 70.7 m (232 ft), the tallest building in Middlesbrough.In 2004, Centre North East was fully let and sold to the Kenmore Property who went into administration late 2009.A bowling alley, Lane7, operated in the building between 2017 and 2022.A nightclub, Soho, operated in the basement of the venue for 7 years before closing in June 2023.In early 2016, the building was bought by the Stockton-on-Tees based company, Cliff Court Developments. The firm subsequently began refurbishing the building.

MIMA, or Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, is a contemporary art gallery based in the centre of Middlesbrough, England. The gallery was formally launched on Sunday 27 January 2007; since 2014 it has been part of Teesside University.

Middlesbrough ( MID-əlz-brə) is a town in the Middlesbrough unitary authority borough of North Yorkshire, England. The town lies near the mouth of the River Tees and north of the North York Moors National Park. The built-up area had a population of 148,215 at the 2021 UK census. It is the largest town of the wider Teesside area, which had a population of 376,633 in 2011.Until the early 1800s, the area was rural farmland in the historic county of Yorkshire. The town was a planned development which started in 1830, based around a new port with coal and later ironworks added. Steel production and ship building began in the late 1800s, remaining associated with the town until the post-industrial decline of the late twentieth century. Trade (notably through ports) and digital enterprise sectors contemporarily contribute to the local economy, Teesside University and Middlesbrough College to local education. Middlesbrough was made a municipal borough in 1853. When elected county councils were created in 1889, Middlesbrough was considered large enough to provide its own county-level services and so it became a county borough, independent from North Riding County Council. The borough of Middlesbrough was abolished in 1968 when the area was absorbed into the larger County Borough of Teesside. Six years later in 1974 Middlesbrough was re-established as a borough within the new county of Cleveland. Cleveland was abolished in 1996, since when Middlesbrough has been a unitary authority within the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire.

The Cleveland Centre, is a shopping centre in the town of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Middlesbrough Council, previous Waypoint New Frontier until 2022. It was renamed The Mall (after its previous owner The Mall Fund) in 2011 but reverted to the original name the following year.

The Teesside Combined Court Centre is a Crown Court venue, which deals with criminal cases, as well as a County Court venue, which deals with civil cases, in Corporation Road, Middlesbrough, England.

The Zetland is a hotel in the town centre of Middlesbrough, in England. The building was constructed in about 1860, as a hotel with a pub serving Middlesbrough railway station. It was extended to the rear in 1893 by J. M. Bottomley, and then in 1898 by W. Duncan. It is built of brick, with the front rendered to resemble stone. The building was renovated in 2018, and includes a brasserie and bar.The building was Grade II listed in 1988. It also appears on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. Inside, the Victorian mosaic floor in the lobby survives, but the main interest is in the ground floor rear room, which retains its tiling in cream, brown and blue, large round-arched mirrors, and decorative plaster ceiling.

Teesside University is a public university with its main campus in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire in North East England. It was officially opened as Constantine Technical College in 1930, before becoming a polytechnic in 1969, and finally granted university status in 1992 by the Privy Council.The university has over 22,500 students studying in the UK, according to the 2021/22 HESA student record.

The Esk Valley Line is a railway line located in the north of England, covering a total distance of around 30 miles (48 km), running from Middlesbrough to Whitby. The line follows the course of the River Esk for much of its eastern half. The Esk Valley Line was designated as a community rail line in July 2005, being one of seven intended pilots for the Department for Transport's Community Rail Development Strategy. Northern Trains call at all stations along the line with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway operating heritage services along part of the line between Grosmont and Whitby.

Middlesbrough is a railway station on the Durham Coast Line, Esk Valley Line and Tees Valley Line. The station serves the town of Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by TransPennine Express. Direct destinations include Darlington, Saltburn, Sunderland, Newcastle, York, and Manchester Airport. There is a direct service to London Kings Cross once per weekday. According to the Office of Rail and Road statistics, Middlesbrough railway station is the fourth busiest in the North East region, with 1,210,906 total entries and exits (2021–22 period).

Bongo Club, also known as Club Bongo International, is a reggae club and one of the oldest nightclubs in Middlesbrough, England. The club is located on Bridge Street West near Middlesbrough Railway Station. It closed in June 2017 due to its licence being revoked after a man was attacked at the club. It had been due to re-open after a £400,000 refit in spring 2018.
