Diavata

Diavata refugee camp is a military-run refugee camp located in Diavata, a community belonging to the municipality of Delta, Central Macedonia, Greece. The camp opened on 24 February 2016 to host Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war, the long-ongoing Afghan conflict and the Iraq War. The camp has capacity for 2500 refugees and as of 1 July 2016, hosts 1,744 refugees in 171 tents and 134 RHUs (Refugee Housing Units).The former military camp of Anagnostopoulou was reconverted in the current Diavata refugee camp, producing protests by about 800 neighbours of Diavata, that opposed the creation of a refugee camp in their village.On 21 April 2016 a fire presumably started from a cooking fire. The strong wind and the proximity between shelters resulted in the burning down of 25 tents, with some refugees losing part of their belongings, including clothes, passports or money. Some people were treated due to smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported.A refugee living in the camp stated to receive only a juice in the morning, noodles with a bread for lunch and nothing for dinner. He also reported that some tents host two or even three families, and that single men are accommodated in the building on the territory.

Nea Magnisia (Greek: Νέα Μαγνησία), before 1927 known as Arapli (Greek: Αραπλή), is a town and a community of the Delta municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was part of the municipality of Echedoros, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 4,266 inhabitants in the village. The community of Nea Magnisia covers an area of 14.805 km2.

G.S. YLTEX Lykoi Thessaloniki also known as ILTEX Lykoi (Greek: ΗΛΤΕΞ Λύκοι) is a reestablished football club based in Kalochori, Thessaloniki, Greece. The team was owned by the Greek businessman Kostas Iliadis. Iliadis was the owner of a group of companies that consisted of Iltex Lykoi, Knitting Mills of Pieria, Iltex S.A, Dyeing Industry of Sindos S.A, Dyeing Industry of Kilkis S.A, Iltex Construction company S.A, with a total turnover of 70 million Euro and 900 people staff. Iliadis group of companies was the most important textile company in Greece for more than a decade (1990–2003). In 2004 the problems of reduced demand, inadequate financing from banks to textile industry, forced Iliadis to bankruptcy and the football club merged with the team Anagennisi Epanomi. The most important highlight in the team's history was the participation in Greek Second division in the late 1990s. On Sunday August 9, 2009, Iliadis and his friend Emmanouil Tsakiropoulos (also a former agent of the amateur team Anagennisi Terpsitheas) were killed in a car accident that took place on the Thessaloniki-Katerini, national highway, near the bridge of the river Loudias. He was 59 years old.

The Railway Museum of Thessaloniki is a museum in Eleftherio-Kordelio, a municipality of the city of Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece. It was founded in 2001 and is housed in the old Military Railway Station A (French: Gare Militaire) of the Thessaloniki-Constantinople Railway (French: Jonction Salonique-Constantinople), near the current TX-3 signalbox. This historic station was built in 1891–1894 by the Italian architect Pietro Arrigoni. In the station-master’s office inside the station building there is a map with all Greek railway lines marked on it, railway workers’ uniforms, railway workmen’s tools, personal belongings, technical manuals and details of all old steam engines and diesel engines belonging to the Greek railways. The museum is also home to some of the furnishings from the carriages of the former Greek royal family. In the museum courtyard there is a restaurant carriage from the renowned Orient Express, which is open to visitors. There are plans to put fifteen old OSE engines on display in front of the museum; these engines are at present undergoing reconstruction work. As from the summer of 2002 young friends of the railway can travel to the museum on the children’s train which departs from the new railway station of Thessaloniki. The museum is open every Wednesday and Thursday between 10 am and 13am, excluding public holidays. Photography is allowed only by advance arrangement.

Kalochori (Greek: Καλοχώρι) is a village and a community of the Delta municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was part of the municipality of Echedoros, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 4,672 inhabitants in the village. The community of Kalochori covers an area of 32.127 km2.

Echedoros (Greek: Εχέδωρος) is a former municipality in the Thessaloniki regional unit, Greece. The seat of the municipality was in Sindos. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Delta, of which it is a municipal unit. The 2011 census recorded 29,367 inhabitants in the municipal unit. The municipal unit of Echedoros covers an area of 103.147 km2. In antiquity Echedorus was a river rising in the mountains of Grestonia and falling into the Thermaic Gulf at Sindus.

Eleftherio-Kordelio (Greek: Ελευθέριο-Κορδελιό, Elefthério-Kordelió) is a suburb of the Thessaloniki Urban Area and was a former municipality of the regional unit of Thessaloniki, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kordelio-Evosmos, of which it is a municipal unit. It gained its present form in 1982, after the union of the then municipalities of Eleftheria and Neo Kordelio. They were formed in 1924 by Greek refugees from the town of Kordelio on the west coast of Asia Minor. In the Ottoman Empire the region and the small village that stood in the same area was known as Harman koy (Turkish: threshing place). Eleftherio-Kordelio covers an area of 3.431 km² with 27,067 inhabitants in 2011. In this region is located the Railway Museum of Thessaloniki.

Kordelio–Evosmos (Greek: Κορδελιό-Εύοσμος, Kordelió-Évosmos) is a municipality of the Thessaloniki Urban Area in the regional unit of Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece. The seat of the municipality is in Evosmos. The municipality has an area of 13.358 km2 and a population of 105,426 people (2021 census).

Evosmos (Greek: Εύοσμος, Évosmos; before 1955: Neos Koukloutzas (Νέος Κουκλουτζάς, Néos Koukloutzás)) is a suburb of the Thessaloniki Urban Area and was a former municipality in the regional unit of Thessaloniki, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kordelio-Evosmos, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. It has a land area of 9.927 square kilometres (3.833 sq mi) and its population is 74,686 (2011 census). Due to rapid development, the population has been growing fast. Most of the new development is taking place in the northern district of the municipality called Nea Politeia (New Town).

Dimitris Kontikakis Stadium otherwise known as Gipedo Evosmou is a football stadium located in the suburb of Evosmos in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Intercity Bus Station of Thessaloniki "Macedonia", also known as the KTEL Macedonia Intercity Bus station, is the main bus station of Thessaloniki, Greece and the largest bus terminal in Greece. It is located just 5km from the city center in Menemeni. Construction began in October 1996 and it was opened to the public in September 2002. It serves about 20 to 25 thousand passengers and 800 coaches departures per day to various cities all over Greece, as well as some routes to Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Germany and Turkey. It is connected with the rest of the city via OASTH, which operates about 120 buses per hour. The company, which operates the buses and owns the station is named KTEL. This terminal serves 40 KTEL (the bus companies in Greece for each province) routes, as well as some other bus lines internationally.

The Sack of Thessalonica refers to the capture, and subsequent sack, of the Byzantine city of Thessalonica by the Abbasid Caliphate in the year 904, led by Leo of Tripoli, a privateer and Muslim convert.
