Lewisfield Plantation

Gippy Plantation is a historic plantation house located at 366 Avenue of Oaks, near Moncks Corner in Berkeley County, South Carolina. The main house is a 2+1⁄2-story Greek Revival frame structure, with a four-column gabled pediment at the center of its main facade. The house was built by John Sims White, and was at the center of a plantation that was more than 1,800 acres (730 ha) in size. It received restoration and Colonial Revival features in the 1920s. John Sims White bought the plantation in 1821 and built the current house after an earlier one burned. Mr. White died from typhoid fever in 1865, and his wife remained at the house. In 1895, J. St. Clair White sold Gippy to his cousin Samuel Gaillard Stoney of nearby Medway Plantation, and the plantation continued in active farming until 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas G. Roosevelt bought the plantation in 1927 and made some alterations including replacing the earlier square columns with round columns. After Mr. Roosevelt's death, a group of three businessmen purchased about 1200 acres of Gippy in 1972 for about $1 million with an eye toward added industrial uses along Highway 52. The plantation house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Mulberry Plantation is a historic plantation property in rural Berkeley County, South Carolina. Located between Moncks Corner and Charleston, this property was developed in 1714 by Thomas Broughton, who became the Royal governor of South Carolina, and is one of the oldest plantation homes in the United States. Its rice fields, dikes and canals were well-preserved into the 20th century. The plantation house and ten surrounding acres were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1963.

The Lowcountry (sometimes Low Country or just low country) is a geographic and cultural region along South Carolina's coast, including the Sea Islands. The region includes significant salt marshes and other coastal waterways, making it an important source of biodiversity in South Carolina. Once known for its slave-based agricultural wealth in rice and indigo, crops that flourished in the hot subtropical climate, the Lowcountry today is known for its historic cities and communities, natural environment, cultural heritage, and tourism industry. The communities in low countries are still heavily dominated by African Americans communities, such as the Gullah/Geechee people. These communities have been increasingly challenged by gentrification in part caused by the tourism industry as well as environmental racism.The geography of the low country, means that its vulnerable to climate change and related sea level rise and subsidence as well as other environmental issues.

The Battle of Monck's Corner was fought on April 14, 1780, outside of Charleston, South Carolina, which was under siege by British forces under the command of General Sir Henry Clinton in the American Revolutionary War. The British Legion, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton, surprised a Patriot force stationed at Monck's Corner and drove them away. The action cut off an avenue of escape for Benjamin Lincoln's besieged army. Aside from the British Legion, and the 33rd Foot and 64th Foot led by Lieutenant Colonel James Webster, the force included the American Volunteers led by Major Patrick Ferguson.

On July 7, 2015, an F-16 fighter jet operated by the United States Air Force collided in-flight with a private Cessna 150 single-engine light aircraft over Moncks Corner, South Carolina, United States. Both occupants of the Cessna were killed; the pilot of the F-16 ejected safely. The subsequent investigation found that the local air traffic control unit had failed to ensure adequate separation between the two aircraft.

Moncks Corner is a town in and the county seat of Berkeley County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,885 at the 2010 census. As defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, Moncks Corner is included within the Charleston-North Charleston, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The school serves 1,753 students from the towns and communities of: Moncks Corner, Cordesville, Lebanon, Longridge, MacBeth, Oakley, Pimlico, Santee Circle, and Whitesville. Berkeley County's current population is approximately 221,091 with a racial composition of 64% Caucasian, 24% African American, 6% Hispanic, and 2% Asian. Berkeley County has been one of the fastest growing communities in South Carolina. The county's growth has presented a challenge for the Berkeley County School District and Berkeley High Schools:

The Mepkin Abbey Botanical Garden (3,200 acres) is a natural area and botanical garden located on the grounds of Mepkin Abbey, a Trappist monastery located at 1098 Mepkin Abbey Road, Moncks Corner, South Carolina. The garden is open to the public daily except Mondays. The grounds began as the Mepkin Plantation, home of American patriot Henry Laurens. The house itself was burned by the British and again by the Union Army in the Civil War. Today's garden was established as landscape gardens on the country estate of noted publisher Henry R. Luce and his wife Clare Boothe Luce (who are buried on the site). The grounds feature live oaks and a camellia garden designed by landscape architect Loutrel Briggs.

Mepkin Abbey is a Trappist monastery in Berkeley County, South Carolina. The abbey is located near Moncks Corner, at the junction of the two forks of the Cooper River northwest of Charleston, and is located in the Diocese of Charleston.

Berkeley County is a county in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 229,861. Its county seat is Moncks Corner, and the largest community is Goose Creek. After two previous incarnations of Berkeley County, the current county was created in 1882. Berkeley County is included in the Charleston, South Carolina metropolitan area.
