Monument is a home rule town situated at the base of the Rampart Range in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. Monument is one of the three communities that make up the Tri-Lakes area, along with Palmer Lake and Woodmoor. The town is part of the Colorado Springs metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 700,000 in 2019. Monument is bordered by Pike National Forest on the west, Colorado Springs and the United States Air Force Academy to the south, Bald Mountain, True Mountain, and Spruce Mountain to the north, and Black Forest and rolling plains to the east. Monument was first settled as a stop along the Rio Grande Railroad in 1872, and the area was incorporated as a town called Henry's Station in 1879, but the name was later changed to Monument. The town population was 10,399 at the 2020 United States Census, an increase from the population of 5,530 in 2010 and 1,971 in 2000. On April 1, 2019, the town declared itself to be a Second Amendment sanctuary.

Lewis-Palmer High School (LPHS) is a public high school in Monument, Colorado. It is one of only two high schools in the Lewis-Palmer School District 38, the other being Palmer Ridge High School.

The Lewis-Palmer School District (LPSD) is a school district in El Paso County, Colorado that serves the Tri-Lakes communities of Monument, Palmer Lake, Woodmoor and select areas of Colorado Springs. Lewis-Palmer School District is home to Colorado's largest public geothermal project, Palmer Ridge High School. The district was "Accredited with Distinction" by the State of Colorado in 2010, recognizing that it is within the top 7% of Colorado school districts. Like many American school systems, LPSD enforces zero-tolerance policies. The Inez Johnson Lewis School in Monument is on the List of Registered Historic Places in Colorado.

The Inez Johnson Lewis School, also known as Lewis-Palmer School District #38 Administration Building, is a building in Monument, Colorado. It was designed by architects MacLaren & Hetherington of Colorado Springs and was built in 1920. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.The school was deemed historically significant not for its architecture, but as a symbol of "educational developments and advancements" in its county, El Paso County, Colorado. It was one of the first built for purpose of consolidating students from former rural schools so that a higher quality education could be provided. It is typical of school buildings constructed by the county in the 1920s. The building was named for Inez Johnson Lewis, superintendent of El Paso County Schools from 1915 to 1929, and Colorado's state superintendent of schools from 1930 to 1946.

Tri-Lakes is a region of Colorado in northern El Paso County. Taking its name from the three lakes in the region (Monument Lake, Palmer Lake and Lake Woodmoor), Tri-Lakes includes the incorporated towns and unincorporated communities of Monument, Palmer Lake, Woodmoor, Gleneagle, King's Deer, and Black Forest. The region lies along the Palmer Divide about 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of Denver and 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of downtown Colorado Springs. The Air Force Academy is about 5 miles (8.0 kilometers) to the south, and Interstate 25 goes north and south through the region.

The CDP is a part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Gleneagle CDP was 6,649 at the United States Census 2020. Woodmoor is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Woodmoor CDP was 9,536 at the United States Census 2020. Palmer Ridge High School (PR, or PRHS) is a public high school in Monument, Colorado, United States, serving students in grades 9–12. It is one of two high schools in the Lewis-Palmer School District, with admission based primarily on the locations of students' homes. As of 2022, Palmer Ridge offers 24 varsity sports, 20 Advanced Placement courses, and occupational skills training in partnership with Pikes Peak Community College and the International Salon and Spa Academy. At the time of its construction in 2008, Palmer Ridge High School was the largest public geothermal project in the state of Colorado.

The Western Museum of Mining & Industry is a museum at 225 North Gate Boulevard in Colorado Springs, Colorado, dedicated to the mining history and industrial technology of the western United States. The museum was founded in 1970, and has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums since 1979. It is open to the public Mondays through Saturdays. The museum building houses antique mining equipment and steam engines. Some of the pneumatic machines are connected to compressed air so that they can be viewed in actual operation. The museum also includes a recreation of an old assay office and scale models of mines and mills. Outdoor exhibits include live burros, a steam shovel, and an operating stamp mill for gold ore.The museum maintains a research library on mining topics, available by appointment. Other activities at the museum include lectures, rotating exhibits, and a twice-weekly farmers’ market.

Cathedral Rock is a rock formation located north of Colorado Springs, Colorado on the U.S. Air Force Academy. The formation was part of the namesake Cathedral Rock Ranch, owned by Lawrence Lehman. Lehman sold the 4650 acre ranch, including Cathedral Rock, to the U.S. Air Force, and it became the first component of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Palmer Lake is a Statutory Town in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,636 at the 2020 census. Palmer Lake was founded by General William Jackson Palmer in 1871 and was incorporated in 1889. Palmer Lake is one of three communities in the Tri-Lakes region between Denver and Colorado Springs. The three lakes are Palmer Lake, Monument Lake, and Lake Woodmoor. Located off Interstate 25 near two major metropolitan centers, Palmer Lake is a growing community on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Downtown Palmer Lake, though small, features restaurants and coffee shops on Colorado Highway 105. There is also a library, town hall, and a historical museum. The Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts, a nonprofit fine arts venue, features rotating art exhibitions and concert events with nationally recognized artists. The town's water comes from two reservoirs in the mountains behind the town and from wells. Both reservoirs and Monument Creek, which flows out of them, are considered part of the town's watershed. The town's namesake lake dried up completely during the summer of 2012 due to Douglas County stopping the water supply. They have allowed Palmer Lake a third of the previous area for aesthetics but will not allow drainage to travel through as it used to be. The town's Board of Trustees held a firm stance against transferring water from the reservoirs to be stored in the lake, asking "Should our water supply be protected for the health and safety of all of our citizens, or should it be utilized for mostly aesthetic purposes?" Downtown businesses and resident morale suffered greatly due to the lack of any surface water within city limits.
