Wells Tavern, Hampstead

Well Walk is a street in Hampstead, England located in the London Borough of Camden. It runs southwestwards from Hampstead Heath to Flask Walk which then continues on towards the centre of Hampstead Village around the Hampstead tube station. It takes its name from the historic Hampstead Wells.Established in 1698 as a public wells, the area rapidly grew in popularity and a pump room was built along with an assembly room. Usage at the wells declined in the nineteenth century and the building was demolished, but is commemorated by a memorial fountain opposite it erected in 1882. Wells Passage is a footpath that follows uphill from the fountain to the headspring in what is now Well Road. The Wells Tavern was established in 1850, replacing an older public house known as The Green Man. Burgh House is located just off the western end of the street in New End Square. Gainsborough Gardens runs southwards from the street. Many of the buildings in the street are now Grade II listed generally dating from the early and late nineteenth century with some dating from the eighteenth. Notable former residents included the artist John Constable, who lived in the street from 1827 until his death in 1837 and whose house is now Grade II* listed, and early Socialist politician Henry Hyndman. Both are now commemorated with blue plaques.In 1774 Roman pottery was discovered in the street, suggesting that a Roman road may have run through Hampstead.

Gainsborough Gardens is a private road in Hampstead, in the London Borough of Camden. The road is arranged in an oval crescent around a central garden. It was laid out towards the end of the nineteenth century and influenced by the Bedford Park development in south west London. Many of its houses are grade II listed with Historic England. Notable former residents include the songwriter Gary Osborne, the historian Bernard M. Allen, and author John le Carré.

The Logs at 17–20 Well Road and 1, 2 and 3 Cannon Lane is a large house in Hampstead, in the London Borough of Camden, NW3. The Logs has been listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England since May 1974.

The Old White Bear is a pub at 1 Well Road, Hampstead, in the London Borough of Camden. It dates back to 1704, but closed on 2 February 2014, as the property developer Braaid Ventures Ltd tried to obtain a change of use application to turn it into a six-bedroom luxury house. Camden Council rejected this, and it was set to reopen as a pub eight months later, following community protests and a petition signed by 4,000 people and supported by the actors Ricky Gervais and Peter Egan. The pub reopened on 15 December 2021.

Well Road is a street in Hampstead, England located in the London Borough of Camden. It runs westwards from Hampstead Heath to New End Square. Well Walk runs parallel to its south and the two are linked by Wells Passage. When the Hampstead Wells were in existence, a large pump room and assembly room were located on Well Walk, with the water supplied from the headspring on Well Road.A blue plaque commemorates the house of the mathematician Karl Pearson. Other former residents include the Egyptologist Flinders Petrie and the writer Richard Hughes. Two detached cottages Providence Corner and Cannon Cottage dating from the early eighteenth century are now Grade II listed. Cannon Cottage was once home to the writer Daphne Du Maurier and features a plaque put up by the Hampstead Society. The Logs is a large mansion dating back to the 1860s. At the eastern end of the road, on the corner with East Heath Road, is Foley House which was built in 1698 for the first manager of the Hampstead Wells. It is also now Grade II listed. At the western end of the road is the pub The Old White Bear, dating back to 1704. The street also contains the studio of artist Mark Gertler who worked there in the 1930s and is also commemorated with a plaque.

The house is the former home of the actor Gerald du Maurier, his wife Muriel Beaumont, and their three children, the writers Angela du Maurier and Daphne du Maurier and the painter Jeanne du Maurier.

Gardnor House is a house in Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden. It has been listed Grade II* on the National Heritage List for England (NHLE) since August 1950.It was built for Thomas Gardnor around 1736. The house is set over 3 storeys with an attic. It is made from yellow stock brick and is 4,600 sq ft in size. It was refronted to the back and front in the early 19th century. It has a mansard roof with tall chimney stacks in brick. One of the original rain-water heads and pipes in lead is inscribed 1736. The interior has an original 18th century staircase with turned balusters, carved brackets and column newels. The house retains some original door cases and most rooms feature fireplaces, door cases and cornices from the early 19th century.In the 1850s Gardnor House was occupied by a dealer in china porcelain and by the 1880s, an architect. The stained glass painter Henry Holiday bought the house in the 1890s.The writers Kingsley Amis and Elizabeth Jane Howard moved to the house in 1977. Howard later left Amis and the house was sold in 1981.A photograph of Gardnor House by John Gay is in the collection of the Hampstead Museum at nearby Burgh House.Gardnor House was put up for sale in January 2019 for £12 million and sold for £10.8 million in October 2019.

New End Square is a square in Hampstead, located in the London Borough of Camden. It dates back to the early eighteenth century when it was located close to the Hampstead Wells spa on the adjacent Well Walk. Despite its name it is not rectangular. At its northern end is the Old White Bear pub dating back to 1704, on the corner with Well Road. Its southern end is at the junction between Flask Walk and Well Walk. New End street curls off from one corner of the square, eventually heading west to Heath Street. It is known as New End to distinguish it from older parts of Hampstead village. The largest building is Burgh House, now housing the Hampstead Museum, which dates back to 1704. A number of other buildings, dating back to the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, are now Grade II listed.New End street was developed at the same time as the square, and was once home to the New End Hospital and the later New End Theatre. The The Duke of Hamilton pub is located in the street.

Hampstead & Highgate was a parliamentary constituency covering the northern half of the London Borough of Camden which includes the village of Hampstead and part of that of Highgate. It was abolished in the 2010 general election; with the majority forming the new constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn; and part to the Holborn and St Pancras seat.
