Maida Vale

Maida Vale is a London Underground station in Maida Vale in inner north-west London. The station is on the Bakerloo line, between Kilburn Park and Warwick Avenue stations, and is in Travelcard Zone 2. The station is 'Grade II' listed building being of architectural and historic interest. In 2009 the station won a National Railway Heritage Award, in the London Regional category, for the successful modernisation of a historic station.

Randolph Avenue is a street in Maida Vale in London. Located in the City of Westminster, it is a long avenue running from north to south. The southern end is located in Little Venice near to the Paddington branch of the Grand Union Canal. The street runs northwards, crossing Clifton Gardens, Sutherland Avenue (near to its junction with Warrington Crescent), Elgin Avenue and Carlton Vale. The road then continues as Randolph Gardens until it meets Kilburn Park Road. The Edgware Road runs directly parallel to Randolph Avenue to the east. The street was part of an ambitious plan for the area laid out by the architect George Gutch in the 1820s to accommodate the expanding population of the capital. Development took several decades with many buildings constructed in the first half of the Victorian era, particularly the 1860s. For much of its existence it was known as Portsdown Road, but was renamed in 1939. It is a largely residential street. The southern end of the road features white stucco terraces but these give way to brick-fronted buildings further north including redbrick mansion blocks. Maida Vale tube station was opened in 1915 at the junction of the street and Elgin Avenue and is now Grade II listed. A number of other properties in Randolph Avenue are also listed.Notable residents of the street have included the painter Eliza Anne Leslie-Melville and the illustrator John Tenniel. Tenniel's residence had a blue plaque, placed by the London County Council, on it from 1930 until 1959 when the house was demolished for redevelopment.

Lauderdale Road is a street in the Maida Vale district of London. Located in the City of Westminster, it runs north westwards from Sutherland Avenue to Elgin Avenue. Its southern end also meets Warrington Crescent and Randolph Avenue at a roundabout. The street was built in 1875 and was named after a prominent Paddington resident the Earl of Lauderdale, an admiral in the Royal Navy. Built some time after the streets to the south of it were laid out, it was not until the late nineteenth century and the Edwardian era that the area was completed. It features large red brick mansion blocks with apartments, in contrast to the area further south which featured the white stucco terracing of the early-to-mid Victorian era. Typical of the style of the street, and surrounding area, is Lauderdale Mansions South. In 1896 the Lauderdale Road Synagogue was built in the street to serve the significant Jewish population in the area. It was constructed in the Neo-Byzantine style and is now Grade II listed.Among notable former residents are actor Alec Guinness and musician Tony Meehan.

The Lauderdale Road Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue is a synagogue in Maida Vale on Lauderdale Road in West London. It is the community hub of the S&P Sephardi Community also known as Qahal Qadosh Shaar Shamayim (Hebrew translation: The Holy Congregation of the Gate of Heaven) which is Britain's oldest Jewish community and largest of Sephardi origin which also operates Bevis Marks Synagogue and Holland Park Synagogue.

Lauderdale Mansions South is a block of 142 apartments in Lauderdale Road, Maida Vale, London W9. Built in 1897, Lauderdale Mansions South was the first of a swathe of mansion flat buildings for the middle classes that spread across central Maida Vale in the 1897–1907 period. The building's freehold company (in which all flat owners have a share) is unusual in that it is believed to be the only one in the UK whose constitution specifies a ‘first-past-the-post’ secret ballot for electing directors, with any shareholder being entitled to stand for election.Lauderdale Mansions South is divided into 15 blocks, each with its own entrance hall leading to 8–14 flats. Behind the building lies a 1.5-acre (6,100 m2) communal garden in which there is also a meeting room for residents housed in a former Boiler House. The basement areas include storage units and bicycle storage areas. Most apartments in the building are 950 to 1,500 square feet (140 m2). The upper floor flats have balconies overlooking Lauderdale Road, while lower ground floor flats back on to the communal garden. For most of the 20th century the freehold of Lauderdale Mansions South was owned by the Church Commissioners, the property investment arm of the Church of England. But in 1989 the freehold was sold to the flat owners. The freehold company is Manyplans Ltd, a subsidiary of Lauderdale Mansions (South) Ltd. The articles of association are also unusual for companies of this type in that they specify that board meetings should be open to shareholder observers, and that board minutes should be made available to shareholders. Sir Alec Guinness, whose best-known screen roles included playing eight different characters in Kind Hearts and Coronets, Colonel Nicholson in The Bridge on the River Kwai and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy, was born in a ground-floor flat in the building on 2 April 1914. More recent former residents of Lauderdale Mansions South have included Kathryn Flett, Observer TV critic and star of the BBC’s Grumpy Old Women series, and Mary McCartney, celebrity photographer and daughter of Paul and Linda McCartney. In 2009, Lauderdale Mansions South was featured in Channel 4 television's The Home Show.

Regent's Park and Kensington North was a constituency in Central and West London represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

St. George's Catholic School is a Roman Catholic secondary school, with academy status, in Maida Vale, Westminster, London, England. The school also offers sixth form education franchised from St Thomas More Catholic School.

Saatchi Shul is an independent Orthodox Jewish synagogue that was founded in Maida Vale, London, in 1998. The synagogue was founded by Charles Saatchi and Maurice Saatchi. When it opened, its rabbi was Pinchas "Pini" Eliezer Dunner.The Saatchi Shul holds services on the site of the St John's Wood (United) Synagogue, and in 2018 plans were made to merge the two groups.

Hamilton Terrace is a wide, tree-lined residential thoroughfare in St John's Wood, London, England. It runs north to south from Carlton Hill to St. John's Wood Road, and is parallel to Maida Vale to the west. The street was named after Charles Hamilton, a Harrow School governor.The street is home to a variety of grand detached and semi-detached houses and mansion blocks. The listed Anglican church St Mark's, Hamilton Terrace is located at the intersection of Abercorn Place and Hamilton Terrace.

The Warrington is a Grade II listed public house at Warrington Crescent, Maida Vale, London W9 1EH.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in the mid-19th century.It was used in series 1 of The Sweeney episode Night Out and Minder series 2, episode 7 The Beer Hunter. As of August 2015, it is operated by the Faucet Inn pub company.Faucet Inn filed for insolvency as of 8 January 2019, and The Warrington is currently under the ownership of Golden Brick Pubs Limited.

St Mark's Church, Hamilton Terrace, is an Anglican church in the St John's Wood neighbourhood of London, located at the intersection of Abercorn Place and Hamilton Terrace. Dating to 1846–1847, it was designed by Thomas Cundy with a spire built by his son in 1864, and is Grade II* listed with Historic England.The church contains an excellent collection of mosaics by Salviati.

Abercorn Place is a street in St John's Wood in London. Located in the City of Westminster, it runs west to east from the Edgware Road at Maida Vale until it joins Abbey Road not far from the Abbey Road Studios to the south. It is crossed by Hamilton Terrace. The street is named after the Duke of Abercorn, an Anglo-Irish aristocrat. It was part of an estate originally owned by Harrow School of which Abercorn was a governor with other nearby streets similarly named. The street contains a mixture of housing from the 1820s onwards. Several buildings in the street are listed today. The Anglican St Mark's Church was built in 1847 at the intersection with Hamilton Terrace. It was designed in the Gothic style by the architect Thomas Cundy.In 1908 a proposed extension of the Bakerloo Line would have seen a station called Abercorn Place built at the junction with Edgware Road, but this was rejected. When the line was extended in 1915, on a different route, the station was placed a little to the west on Elgin Avenue and renamed Maida Vale. Residents of the street have included the artist Charles Robert Leslie, the writer Christopher Sclater Millard and the actress Ingeborg von Kusserow.
