Rowlands is a former Rochester Industrial and Rapid Transit Railway loop and station located in Brighton, New York. It was closed in 1956 along with the rest of the line. The station was named after local property owner Elwell Rowland. The Rochester and Eastern Rapid Railway connected to the Subway at Rowlands after 1927, abandoning their line up Monroe Avenue to the city line.

Alcoa Care-free Home is a historic home located at Brighton in Monroe County, New York. It was designed by Charles M. Goodman (1906–1992) and is one of 24 Alcoa Care-free Homes listed in their sales brochure of 1957 that were built for a demonstration project and the only one located New York State. It is a one-story, Ranch-style house with 1,900 square feet (180 m2) of living space, a carport, and a full basement. It is 91 feet (28 m) long and 36 feet (11 m) wide. It is of post and beam construction with a shallow pitched, side gabled roof. It features end walls constructed completely of plate glass framed by aluminum and supported by wood columns that are clad in aluminum.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Spring House is a historic inn located at Pittsford in Monroe County, New York. It is a 2+1⁄2- to 3+1⁄2-story brick building constructed into a hillside that, at the time, overlooked the Erie Canal. (The canal has long since been rerouted to the south.) The structure dates to 1832 and was built as a health spa located at Monroe Springs, a set of sulphur springs. It serves as a restaurant on busy Monroe Avenue. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

It was the first U.S. Women's Open conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), and the final two rounds were played on Saturday.Betsy Rawls won an 18-hole playoff on Sunday by six strokes over runner-up Jackie Pung, 71 to 77. It was the third of eight major championships for Rawls and the second of four U.S. Women's Opens. Patty Berg set a course record with a 71 on Thursday and was the 36-hole leader on Friday evening, eight strokes ahead of the field. Her final two rounds of 80 and 79 on Saturday dropped her to solo third, one stroke out of the playoff.Notably absent was two-time champion Babe Zaharias, who was recovering from colon cancer surgery. She returned in 1954 and won by a record twelve strokes in her final U.S. Women's Open.
