Brighton, Monroe County, New York

Brighton is a census-designated place (CDP) in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 36,609 at the 2010 census. The CDP takes its name from locations in the county. Town of Brighton, which is conterminously with the CDP, is a town south of the City of Rochester. The town has a community, also named Brighton, a suburb of Rochester.

Brighton High School, commonly abbreviated BHS, is a public high school located in Brighton, an incorporated town adjacent to the southeast border of Rochester, New York, United States. It offers a comprehensive curriculum for students in grades 9–12. It is part of the Brighton Central School District.

Temple B'rith Kodesh is a Reform Jewish synagogue located at 131 Elmwood Avenue, in the suburb of Brighton, in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, in the United States. It is the oldest synagogue and the largest Reform congregation in the greater Rochester area.

Sunset is a former Rochester Industrial and Rapid Transit Railway station located in Brighton, New York. It was closed in 1956 along with the rest of the line.This station was built at Sunset Drive in a cutting that had once been the bed of the Erie Canal and is now a section of the Interstate 590 highway.

Referred to as The Station of the Cross, WHIC is owned and operated by Holy Family Communications. The station began broadcasting Catholic programming on July 1, 2003. Broadcasting at 3,700 watts in the daytime and 5,000 watts at night, WHIC's calls represent the Holy and Immaculate Conception, to whom this station is dedicated.

Rowlands is a former Rochester Industrial and Rapid Transit Railway loop and station located in Brighton, New York. It was closed in 1956 along with the rest of the line. The station was named after local property owner Elwell Rowland. The Rochester and Eastern Rapid Railway connected to the Subway at Rowlands after 1927, abandoning their line up Monroe Avenue to the city line.

It was closed in 1956 along with the rest of the line.This station was built at Elmwood Avenue in a cutting that had once been the bed of the Erie Canal and is now a section of the Interstate 590 highway.

Cobbs Hill Reservoir is a reservoir located in Cobbs Hill Park in Rochester, New York, United States. The reservoir is used to supply drinking water to the city of Rochester. The source of the water is Hemlock Lake, which lies 30 miles due south of and 400 feet higher elevation than Rochester.Construction was completed in 1908. The smaller Lake Riley north of it was part of the old Erie Canal system. I-490 now runs on the old canal bed here. The land comprising modern-day Cobbs Hill Park belonged to Gideon Cobb, an earlier settler of Rochester. The land was acquired by the city through various land purchases, and donations. The largest donation was the remaining 15 acres crowning the hilltop of Cobbs Hill. The granite gatehouse atop the hill was designed by architect J. Foster Warner in Greek Revival style. The structure featured a wide portico with an ornate drinking fountain. With its surrounding iron fencing and Parisian lamp posts, the 12.8 acre reservoir further added to the landscape of Cobbs Hill. Animated by a fountain, the reservoir reportedly has the sitting capacity to fill every bath tub in Rochester, NY, twice daily, for two months.An overlook was developed in consultation with the agency of Frederick Law Olmsted— the firm responsible for creating the Rochester Parks system in the late 1880s. Olmsted executives urged the city to maintain this bluff to provide citizens with unobtrusive skyline views.A refectory, with cafeteria and observation deck, once stood on the site now occupied by a radio tower. Funded by The New Deal in 1933, the refectory hosted thousands of people a year through the mid-twentieth century. A beacon mounted to the observatory helped guide planes to the Greater Rochester International Airport. Cobbs Hill Park remains a Rochester feature into the twenty-first century, and is used by joggers running the reservoir trail, sled riders gliding down the hill, sports enthusiasts playing on the athletic fields, or people partaking in the views or nature walks.

WRUR-FM (88.5 FM) is a public, listener-supported radio station located in the Rochester, New York area airing an Adult Album Alternative format. Its transmitter is located on Pinnacle Hill in Rochester. WRUR-FM is the public radio station of the University of Rochester. It partners with WXXI Public Broadcasting Council to provide programming. Its programs can also be heard in Ithaca on WITH (90.1 FM).

WXXO (91.5 FM) is a public, listener-supported radio station in Rochester, New York, airing a classical music radio format. Its programs can also be heard in Houghton on WXXY (90.3 FM) and on the seventh digital subchannel of WXXI-TV (channel 21). It's owned by the WXXI Public Broadcasting Council, which also owns WXXI-TV and a two-station news and information service, WXXI (1370 AM) and WXXI-FM (105.9). WXXO holds periodic fundraisers on the air to support the station. WXXO has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 45,000 watts. The transmitter is located on Pinnacle Hill in Brighton. It is co-located with the towers for several Rochester FM and TV stations.
