Old Warson Country Club is a country club located in St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 1953, it hosted the 1971 Ryder Cup and the 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship. The golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones.Hale Irwin, the winner of three U.S. Opens, joined the club in 1974 as a junior member; since 1977 he has been an active member.Until 1991, Old Warson Country Club banned Black and Jewish people from joining. That year, it cancelled plans to host a PGA Senior Tour event rather than change its discriminatory rules. Several months later, the club admitted its first Black member: Frederick S. Wood, a retired executive vice president at General Dynamics.The initiation fee was $45,000 ($83,966 today) in 1996 and $80,000 ($116,131 today) in 2006.

Douglass High School was a segregated high school in North Webster Groves, Missouri from 1926 until 1956. Named after abolitionist Frederick Douglass, the school served the area of North Webster, which had been settled by many black families after the Civil War. The school was formed when the Webster Groves School District decided to stop paying tuition for students to attend the all-black Sumner High School, founded in 1875, which was miles away in St. Louis. So an elementary school, Douglass Elementary, dating from 1866, was expanded into a high school in the 1920s. Douglass High School was the only accredited public high school for African-American students in St. Louis County until the end of segregation in 1957.

Immacolata School is a Catholic school in Immacolata Parish, Richmond Heights, Missouri. The school was founded in September 1949 by the Carondelet Sisters of St. Joseph. Students attend from grades Preschool through eighth. Immacolata School's first graduating class was in 1950. The cornerstone was laid on the main building in 1949. The principal of Immacolata School is Dr. Jennifer Stutsman, a former long-time middle school Social Studies and Science teacher at the school. The pastor is Rev. Msgr. Vernon Gardin. In 2008, the Parish built a new school wing which added classrooms, offices and a conference room. Other recent improvements include a renovated playground, athletic fields, kitchen and cafeteria as well as a new wooden floor in the gymnasium. Students attend from the parish's boundaries as well as from neighboring areas.

The 19th Ryder Cup Matches were held September 16–18, 1971, in the United States at the Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The U.S. team won the competition by a score of 181⁄2 to 131⁄2 points.
