Federal Institute of Pernambuco

Federal University of Pernambuco (Portuguese: Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, UFPE) is a public university in Recife, Brazil, established in 1946. UFPE has 70 undergraduate courses and 175 postgraduate courses. As of 2007, UFPE had 35,000 students and 2,000 professors. The university has three campuses: Recife, Vitória de Santo Antão, and Caruaru. Its main campus, Campus Reitor Joaquim Amazonas, is located in western Recife, in the Cidade Universitária neighborhood. The Recife Law School, established in 1827, is located downtown. UFPE ranks among the top Brazilian universities, placing ninth in the country in size and scientific production, and seventh among the federal public universities. UFPE's Center for Exact and Natural Sciences is consistently the strongest in research production in the university. UFPE has twice elected the best university in Northern and Northeastern Brazil by Guia do Estudante and Banco Real (ABN AMRO).Each year over 6,000 seats are offered in its vestibular. The median and average competition rate is of about 10 applicants for each seat.

Caxangá is a neighborhood in Recife, Brazil, located on the banks of the Capibaribe River, eleven kilometers from the center of Recife. The neighborhood was first populated by the canon Francisco Pereira Lopes, in the late eighteenth century, when he built a house and a chapel dedicated to St. Francis of Paula there. It is located by the Caxangá Golf and Country Club.

It has a land area of 87 hectares, a resident population of 4,006 people and an annual geometric growth rate of 0.45. Adjoining neighborhoods are 'Casa Forte', 'Santana' and 'Monteiro', and it runs along the Capibaribe River. The majority of its residents are upper-middle class, although there are also residents of lower middle class and upper class.

The Zeppelin Tower (Portuguese: Torre do Zeppelin) is located in the neighborhood of Jiquiá, formerly Campo do Jiquiá, in the city of Recife, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. It was the first aeronautical station for airships in South America, and is the only object of its kind still standing in the world.

Casa Forte is a neighborhood in the North Zone of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil.

The Zoo Botanical Park Dois Irmãos, is located in the city of Recife, state of Pernambuco - Brazil. The park has an area of 384.4 ha, 14 of which is dedicated for the Zoo Botanical and a Natural Science Museum, and the remaining area for an Atlantic Forest reserve (considered one of the largest atlantic forest area in the state). This park offers to the visitors the possibility to know about the local ecosystems, plants and wildlife. It has about 650 animals - birds, reptiles and mammals - from more than 120 species. It is the most representative Zoo in the North/Northeast region of Brazil, highlighted by events and pioneers innovative activities in areas such environmental education and breeding animals in captivity. Also in this park, nature knowledge is acquired through experience and direct contact with animals, making the Zoo no longer just a window of animals to become a Nature conservation center. The park was founded in 1916, in the land of engenho Dois Irmãos (which means two brothers), owned by Antonio and Tomas Lins Caldas.

Camaragibe (population 156,736) is a city in northeastern Brazil, in the State of Pernambuco. It lies near Recife at 8.00° South, 35.04° West. Currently, Camaragibe is run by Nadegi Queiroz (from the political party Republicans) and Délio Junior (The Vice-mayor). The lands now belonging to the city were used as a reserve of wood, and then for sugar planting. It was populated by natives, until the arrival of Portuguese with Duarte Coelho Pereira, around 1500. After the Portuguese arrival, however, the natives were not completely driven from the area. Instead, they lived "peacefully" with the invaders. In the 16th century the city (then just an engenho) was considered one of richest in the region until the Dutch invasion in 1645. At that time, the farm was burned to the ground by the natives. On 13 May 1982, Camaragibe, which was then part of the bigger city São Lourenço da Mata, was elevated to the category of city. The small city is considered among the most densely populated urban areas in the world because of the very accelerated growth that the city experienced from the emancipation until now.

The Recife Brazil Temple is the 101st operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The Recife Brazil Temple sits on 5.59 acres (2.26 ha) in the city of Recife, capital of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, the grounds feature mango and palm trees and an ornamental garden. The temple exterior is finished with Asa branca granite from Brazil and features a single spire topped with a gold statue of the angel Moroni. This temple is larger than many LDS temples built during the same time in order to accommodate the 137,500 members of the church in northern Brazil. Previously, the closest temple was in São Paulo.

The Academia Pernambucana de Letras (Pernambuco Academy of Letters) is a Brazilian literary society established in the manner of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, on January 26, 1901, in Recife by Carneiro Vilela and other writers from the state of Pernambuco, with a total of 20 seats. One of the first letters academies of Brazil, being surpassed only by Academia Cearense de Letras, by Academia Brasileira de Letras and Academia Paraense de Letras.

Sport Club do Recife, (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈspɔʁtʃi ˈklub du ʁeˈsifi]; known as Sport Recife or Sport, is a Brazilian sports club, located in the city of Recife, in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Founded in 1905, the club currently plays in Série B. In football, the club has won six CBD/CBF titles, including three national and three regional. Its greatest achievements are winning the 1987 Brazilian Championship and 2008 Copa do Brasil. In addition to professional football, the club also participates in women's football and Olympic sports, such as rowing, swimming, hockey, basketball, futsal, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, judo and athletics. Their historical rival is Santa Cruz, and they both dispute the Clássico das Multidões. The derby against Náutico is called the Clássico dos Clássicos, while the derby with América is called the Clássico dos Campeões.

Estádio Adelmar da Costa Carvalho, commonly known as Estádio Ilha do Retiro, Ilha do Retiro or simply Ilha, is a football stadium situated in Recife, State of Pernambuco, in Northeastern Brazil, and owned by Sport Club do Recife. The stadium's official name is Estádio Adelmar da Costa Carvalho, and it was inaugurated on July 4, 1937. The stadium's common name, Ilha do Retiro, is the name of the neighborhood where it is located. The stadium's official name, Adelmar da Costa Carvalho, is in honor of the Sport Club do Recife president who presided over the first major renovation of the stadium.

The Museu do Estado de Pernambuco (MEPE) (Museum of the State of Pernambuco) is housed in a 19th-century mansion on the Av. Rui Barbosa in Recife, capital of Pernambuco state, Brazil. It was opened in 1929. The museum collections contain over 12 thousand works of art which invite the visitor to a journey into the local history, from pictures of Colonial Brazil and the period of the Dutch invasion (1630–1654), to those of the 20th and 21st centuries. Periodically the museum hosts the “Salão de Arte Contemporânea de Pernambuco”, when emerging artists are selected to represent the new run of local professionals who will help maintain and shape the new profile of the local art scenery.
