Opphaug

Austrått Fort is a disused coastal artillery site located at Austrått in Ørland, Norway. It was constructed in 1942 by the German Wehrmacht to protect the Trondheimsfjord during the German occupation of Norway during World War II. The fort's centrepiece is a triple 28 cm SK C/34 (11-inch) gun turret from the German battleship Gneisenau, which was damaged in Kiel. The three-gun turret weighs 800 tons and was capable of firing 730-pound shells 38 kilometres (24 mi). The last firing took place in 1953 and the fort was decommissioned in 1968. It opened as a museum in 1991.Like its sister battery, the Fjell Fortress on Sotra Island near Bergen, a shaft was cut out of the rocks for the huge former Gneisenau battleship gun turret. The triple 28 cm SK C/34 turret became available after the discontinuation of the Kriegsmarine battleships building programme in 1942. Turret Anton was split up in three separate barrels and placed at Fort Rozenburg in the Netherlands. Turret Bruno was installed in a shaft on Sotra, Norway. Turret Caesar was emplaced halfway up occupied Norway. About 650 Yugoslavian slave laborers, mostly Serbs (Partisans and Chetniks) worked under awful conditions on the tunnels and bunkers around the hill. In a short time, a large underground system with supporting bunkers was finished. In August 1943 the guns were test-fired. No real engagements occurred during the remainder of the war, however. The underground barracks and turret shaft with its ammunition rooms are open to the public. Because the Norwegians kept the site in operating condition until 1968, it remains in a good state of preservation. Today it is one of the most complete examples of a World War II German coastal battery extant. In addition, the site still has its infantry defenses consisting of trenches and a recently renovated 4.7 cm Czech-made anti-tank gun in working condition. The gun covers an anti-tank wall through the woods intended to protect the entrance of the complex.

Brekstad is a town in the municipality of Ørland in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located along the Trondheimsfjord at the entrance to the Stjørnfjorden. The town is located about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south of the village of Uthaug and about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) west of the villages of Austrått and Ottersbo. The 1.97-square-kilometre (490-acre) town has a population (2021) of 2,311. Brekstad received town status on 8 October 2005, thus becoming the 95th town in Norway.The major employers in Brekstad are Ørland Main Air Station / Ørland Airport, Mascot Høie linen factory, Coop Fosen, and Tine Midt-Norge. Brekstad hosted the Fosen District Court before it was merged with the Trøndelag District Court in 2021. The Ørland Church and Ørland cultural center are both located in the town. Brekstad has connections with the Kystekspressen boat to Trondheim, Hitra, Frøya (via bus), Lensvik, Hysnes and Kristiansund. The Brekstad–Valset Ferry has regular service across the Trondheimsfjord from Brekstad to Valset in Orkland. There are also road connections to elsewhere in Ørland.

Fosen District Court (Norwegian: Fosen tingrett) was a district court in Trøndelag county, Norway. The court was based at the Fosen Tinghus in the town of Brekstad in the municipality of Ørland. The court existed from 1591 until 2021. It had jurisdiction over the municipalities of Ørland, Bjugn, Frøya, Hitra, Indre Fosen, Osen, Roan, and Åfjord. Cases from this court could be appealed to Frostating Court of Appeal. The court was last led by the acting chief judge (Sorenskriver) Leif Otto Østerbø. This court employed a chief judge, two other judges, and several prosecutors and administrators.The court was a court of first instance. Its judicial duties were mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy. The administration and registration tasks of the court included death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies. Cases from this court were heard by a combination of professional judges and lay judges.

Ørland Church (Norwegian: Ørland kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Ørland municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the town of Brekstad, along the Trondheimsfjorden. It is one of the churches for the Ørland parish which is part of the Fosen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, stone church was built in a long church style during the 12th century. The church seats about 330 people.

Austrått or Austrått Manor (Norwegian: Austråttborgen) is a manor in Ørland municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. Since the 10th century, Austrått has been the residence for many noblemen, noblewomen, and officials who played a significant role in Norwegian history. In historical records, Austrått can also be found written as Østråt, Østeraat, Østeraad, Austaat, and Austråt. The layout of the manor as it stands today is attributed to chancellor Ove Bjelke, for whom construction was completed around 1656. The manor house burned in 1916. Restoration was begun in the 1920s and completed in 1961. The manor house was previously part of a larger property, but the land is now independent from the manor house. The Norwegian state owns the manor house, which is administered by Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim. The manor is open for public tours from June until August. The name Austrått is thought to derive from the old Norse terms for eastern (austr) and direction or (átt), which could be interpreted as eastbound, or possibly the eastern property.

The Brekstad–Valset Ferry is an automobile ferry in Trøndelag county, Norway. The ferry is part of the Norwegian County Road 710 as it crosses the Trondheimsfjorden, connecting the town of Brekstad on the Fosen peninsula to Valset in Orkland municipality. The 5.6 kilometres (3.5 mi) passage is performed with the double-ended ferries MF Ørland and operated by Tide Sjø making 17 crossings in each direction each day taking 20 minutes.The ferry route started in 1977, and was operated by Fosen Trafikklag until 2007, when it lost the public service obligation contract to Tide Sjø.Starting in 2019, the route will be operated by Fjord1 and two of the ferries will be battery electric.

Ørland Main Air Station (IATA: OLA, ICAO: ENOL) (Norwegian: Ørland hovedflystasjon) is situated at the mouth of the Trondheimsfjorden in the municipality of Ørland in Trøndelag county in the center of Norway. Ørland is operated by the Royal Norwegian Air Force and is an important air base not only for Norway, but also for NATO. The air station is the base of F-35A Lightning II and F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft, Westland Sea King search and rescue helicopters and a location for E-3A Sentry AWACS. It is also the host of many NATO exercises. In addition, Danish Air Transport operates a scheduled route with an ATR 42 (Most commonly an ATR 42-320/500) 36-48 seater aircraft to Oslo Airport, Gardermoen operating two daily rotations, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon (Typical rush hours).

Ørland Airport (Norwegian: Ørland lufthavn; IATA: OLA, ICAO: ENOL), also known as Ørland Airport, Brekstad (Ørland lufthavn, Brekstad) is the civilian sector of the Ørland Main Air Station. It is located 1.5 km (0.8 NM) northwest of the town of Brekstad, the administrative centre of the municipality of Ørland in Trøndelag county, Norway. The civilian sector is municipal, although the runway, air traffic control and rescue services are operated by the Royal Norwegian Air Force. The airport terminal, which has a capacity for 50 simultaneous passengers, was built in 1978 and renovated in 2007. It is served by Air Norway, operated by North Flying, with a daily round trip to Oslo and a weekly service to Aalborg. Ørland is the main airport for the district of Fosen, and it is located close enough to the city of Trondheim that Ryanair has considered it as a secondary airport. A car ferry must be used to reach the airport from Trondheim. The airport served 5,546 passengers in 2014.

Uthaug is a village in the municipality of Ørland in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the south shore of the Bjugnfjorden about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west of the village of Opphaug, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north of the town of Brekstad, and about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) east of the Kjeungskjær Lighthouse. Ørland Airport lies just south of the village. The 0.38-square-kilometre (94-acre) village has a population (2018) of 394 and a population density of 1,037 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,690/sq mi).Uthaug is home to fish processing and concrete manufacturing industries. It also has a good harbor with a breakwater. The Uthaugsgården museum is an old preserved trading post that is located in the village.

Nes Church (Norwegian: Nes kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Ørland municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Nes, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) southwest of the village of Oksvoll and 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) west of the village of Botngård. It is the main church for the Nes parish which is part of the Fosen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1878 using plans drawn up by the architect Otinius Forbrægd. The church seats about 350 people.

Nes is a village in Ørland municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located on the western coast of the Fosen peninsula, just 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) east of the Tarva islands. Nes is located along the Norwegian County Road 115, about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) west of the village of Botngård. Nes Church is located in the village. The village was once the administrative centre of the old municipality of Nes which existed from 1899 until its dissolution in 1964.

The Bjugnfjorden is a fjord in Ørland Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The 14-kilometre (8.7 mi) long fjord begins at the village of Botngård and it heads to the west past the Kjeungskjær Lighthouse into the Atlantic Ocean. Other villages along the fjord include Nes and Uthaug. Bjugn Church is located on the southern shore of the fjord. The Stjørnfjorden lies about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) south of it, on the other side of the Ørlandet peninsula.
