Gravesend Airport, located 2.5 miles (4.0 km) south-east of Gravesend town centre, Kent and 7.0 miles (11.3 km) west of Rochester. It was operated from 1932 until 1956. It was initially a civil airfield, and became a Royal Air Force station known as RAF Gravesend during the Second World War, when it was under the control of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. It was the first RAF station to operate the North American Mustang III. The airport returned to civilian use at the conclusion of the Second World War, although it remained under the ownership of the Air Ministry until its closure in 1956. It is notable that a decision had to be made in 1954, by the Air Ministry, as to whether this civil airport should be retained and substantially enlarged, or the extensions east of Thong Lane be released for residential development. Kent County Council had made it clear that the land west of Thong Lane, was identified as a Civil Airport. Additionally, Kent County Council also informed the Air Ministry, that it would neither support nor oppose enlargement, acknowledging, however, that it would as a result of any such enlargement, the site becoming designated as a fully operational international airport.

Gravesham ( GRAYV-shəm) is a local government district with borough status in north-west Kent, England. Its administrative centre and largest town is Gravesend, which was known as Gravesham in ancient times. Gravesham was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the Municipal Borough of Gravesend with Northfleet Urban District and part of Strood Rural District, under the Local Government Act 1972. It borders the Borough of Dartford and Sevenoaks District to the west, the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling to the south, the Medway unitary authority to the east and the Thurrock unitary authority of Essex to the north, via the River Thames. Gravesham is twinned with Cambrai in Hauts-de-France, France and Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The present borders of Gravesham parliamentary constituency are almost the same as those of the borough.

Chalk is a village and since 1935 a former civil parish which adjoins the east of Gravesend, Kent, England. As is intuitive, its name comes from the Saxon word cealc meaning a chalkstone. In 1931 the parish had a population of 563.One layer of the chalk carries flints, stones embedded in the chalk, and these were used in building and in providing the means of fire for muskets. The stone is often cut to provide a flat edge as a craft known as flint-knapping. The trade was worked in Chalk from the 17th century onwards. Gun-flints were produced here in large quantities until the early 19th century. Current issues relating to the immediate environment around Chalk include a proposed new Lower Thames Crossing across the nearby estuary marshes, confirmed in 2017.

St John's Catholic Comprehensive School is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school and sixth form, located in Gravesend in the English county of Kent.It is a voluntary aided school in the trusteeship of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark, and is maintained by Kent County Council. Although the school has its own admissions procedure, it does coordinate with Kent County Council for admissions. St John's Catholic Comprehensive School offers GCSEs, BTECs and OCR Nationals as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A Levels and further BTECs.

Thong is a hamlet southeast of Gravesend in Kent, England. The population of the hamlet is included in the civil parish of Shorne. It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names and appeared as a question answer for Round Britain Quiz on BBC Radio 4.The name 'Thong' is first attested in the Registrum Roffense of circa 1200, where it appears as Thuange. The name may correspond with the Middle Low German dwenge meaning 'trap', but this cannot be confirmed.

Denton Halt was a halt between Milton Road Halt and Milton Range Halt on the Hundred of Hoo Railway. It opened in July 1906 and closed on 4 December 1961. The halt was about 1.25 miles (2.01 km) from Gravesend Central. The station was demolished after closure and there are no remains today. The level crossing adjacent to the station was closed in 1971 and replaced with a footbridge.

Gravesend Grammar School is a selective grammar school with academy status located in Gravesend, Kent, England. The school accepts boys at age 11 through the 11+ exam accepting a cohort of the top 15-20% and boys and girls at 16, based on their GCSE results. The school continues to strive achieving around 100%(5 A*-C including English and Maths) at GCSE level with many students obtaining >9 GCSEs at the end of Year 11.

The Metropolitan Police Specialist Training Centre is a specialist training centre for the Metropolitan Police in Gravesend, Kent. It provides both Public Disorder and Specialist Firearms training to officers drawn from the MPS, British Transport Police and City of London Police. The centre was purpose-built for the Metropolitan Police and opened in 2003.

The Singlewell Infrastructure Maintenance Depot is a railway maintenance depot located near the Gravesend ward of Singlewell, Kent, in the United Kingdom. The depot is located between the A2 road and High Speed 1 (Channel Tunnel Rail Link). It lies halfway between Ebbsfleet International railway station and the Medway Viaducts, and is connected via a spur at the Singlewell freight loops. When originally constructed in 2007, the area between the A2 and the depot formed a field, but the subsequent long-planned realignment of the A2 meant that the road now runs closer to the depot. The depot has fuelling facilities, workshops, plant storage and offices.

Jeskyns is a park near Cobham, in Kent, England. A former farm, it was reopened as a large open-space recreational area in 2007, with areas being developed as new wildlife habitats.
