Located at the west end of the Hawthorne Bridge, the 20-story skyscraper is 270 feet (82 m) tall. Designed in the modern style by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, it is a concrete and glass tower.

The six-story building was completed in 1892 and it was demolished in 2017 to be replaced by new development. Demolition was underway in August 2017, and it was complete by November of the same year.
