Sinsinawa, Wisconsin

The Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary of the Order of Preachers, better known as the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa is an American religious institute of the Regular, or religious branch of the Third Order of St. Dominic. It was founded in 1847. The General Motherhouse is located in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.

The Sinsinawa Mound raid occurred on June 29, 1832, near the Sinsinawa mining settlement in Michigan Territory (present-day Grant County, Wisconsin in the United States). This incident, part of the Black Hawk War, resulted in the deaths of two men; a third man survived by seeking cover in a nearby blockhouse. In the aftermath of the raid, Captain James W. Stephenson set out to pursue the attackers—a straggling band of Sauk Native Americans—but lost their trail at the Mississippi River. The attack occurred in the same week as other skirmishes and raids, and as a result helped contribute to the growing fear in the region. The raid caused the residents of nearby Platteville to consider fleeing their settlement.

KATF (92.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting an adult contemporary format. Licensed to serve the Dubuque, Iowa, United States, area, the station is owned by Radio Dubuque, Inc., and features programming from Fox News Radio. Its transmitter is located across the Mississippi River from the northern part of downtown Dubuque in southwestern Grant County, Wisconsin. KATF formerly had the call letters KFMD. Includes Katfm in the morning with Lisa Bennett, midday's with Misty Woolf and afternoons with Mike Field. Radio Dubuque also hosts the Dubuque, Iowa 4th of July celebration, and many local events such as: Chili-cookoffs, outdoor concerts, and live broadcasts. KATF is the most powerful radio station in the Dubuque market and while all Dubuque radio stations cover the tri-states of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, KATF's signal can also be heard in the far southeastern corner of Minnesota, thereby adding a fourth state to the fringes of the FM station's coverage area.

The Henry N. Frentress Farmstead is a historic farm located at 19140 U.S. Route 20 West in East Dubuque, Illinois. The farm was established in 1832 by the parents of Henry N. Frentress; Henry, the family's most noteworthy and prosperous farmer, ran the farm from 1876 to his death in 1899. His agricultural pursuits included both common farm products such as livestock and wheat, which he shipped to large markets on the Illinois Central Railroad, and several varieties of fruit, which he sold locally. He was also known for his engineering innovations; his most profitable was a new variety of barbed wire, the profits from which bolstered East Dubuque's developing economy. Henry and his mother also built the farm's Italianate farmhouse; the farmhouse is one of two main buildings remaining at the farm, along with a summer kitchen which dates to the 1830s.The farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 4, 2011.
