Lebanon is a town in Russell County, Virginia, United States. The population was 3,424 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Russell County.

Lebanon High School is a public high school located in the town of Lebanon, Virginia which is also the county seat of Russell County, Virginia. They are a part of the Russell County Public Schools system and have been accredited by the Virginia Department of Education for the 2023–2024 school year. Mr. Ryan Potts is the current principal and Mrs. Whitney Sizemore is the vice principal.

The Samuel Gilmer House is a historic house and farm property at 2410 East Main Street, just outside the Lebanon town limits in Russell County, Virginia, United States. It is a two-story brick building, set on a limestone foundation, with a side gable roof. A single-story porch extends across the front, supported by round columns. The front is three bays wide, with a center entrance topped by a transom window. The interior follows a typical center-hall plan, and has much original Federal-period finish, including the staircase and fireplace mantels. The property includes the ruins of an 1848 covered bridge that once spanned Big Cedar Creek. Built about 1820, it is one of the few Federal period houses to survive in southwestern Virginia.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Hidden Valley Wildlife Management Area is a 6,400-acre (26 km2) Wildlife Management Area in Washington County, Virginia, along its border with Russell County. The area is typified by mountainous mature hardwood forests that have regenerated on land logged in the early twentieth century; a number of small openings which are also maintained as habitat for local wildlife. Its elevation ranges from 2,000 to 4,000 feet (610 to 1,220 m) above sea level. At the head of the valley is the 60-acre (24 ha) Hidden Valley Lake, which serves as the source of Brumley Creek.Hidden Valley Wildlife Management Area is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The area is open to the public for hunting, trapping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, boating, and primitive camping. The game species available include deer, bear, turkey, waterfowl, squirrel, raccoon, bobcat and grouse. The deer are few and far between but mature bucks can be found especially during the rut. Bear are abundant along with bobcats and other furbearers. Turkey and squirrel hunting are very poor but the area boasts a large grouse population. Dogs will have little trouble finding birds, they are easiest to find holding tight to rhododendron patches. Fishing opportunities include small and largemouth bass, walleye, pike and panfish. Small trout can be caught as well in the creek below the dam. The lake is very clear and the best fishing is with live crawfish caught in the creek. A boat launch is available on the north side of Hidden Valley Lake. Access for persons 17 years of age or older requires a valid hunting or fishing permit, a current Virginia boat registration, or a WMA access permit.

Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve is an 891-acre (361 ha) Natural Area Preserve in Russell County, Virginia. Located at the confluence of the Clinch River and Big Cedar Creek, the preserve's namesake and centerpiece is the Pinnacle, a dolomite formation rising 400 feet (120 m) above the creek.At least nine rare species and two rare natural communities make their home within the boundaries of the preserve. It is home to the globally rare Big Cedar Creek millipede (Brachoria falcifera), known only from the preserve and several nearby locations. Two globally rare plants, Canby's mountain-lover (Paxistima canbyi) and Carolina saxifrage (Saxifraga caroliniana), grow upon the preserve's limestone cliffs, where they are joined by American harebell (Campanula rotundifolia), which is rare in Virginia. The preserve's creek banks host the rare glade spurge (Euphorbia purpurea).Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. The preserve includes improvements such as a parking area, four miles (6.4 km) of hiking trails, and a suspension foot bridge.

Blackford Bridge, also known as Pucketts Hole Bridge, is a historic Pratt through truss bridge located near Lebanon, Russell County, Virginia. It was built by the Groton Bridge Company in 1889. It crosses the Clinch River and is a two-span bridge, measuring over 220 feet (67 m) long.The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

The Channels Natural Area Preserve is a 721-acre (2.92 km2) Natural Area Preserve located in Washington and Russell counties, Virginia. It was established in April 2008 to protect a number of significant natural communities and habitats, including high-elevation forests, rock outcrops, and cliffs. Its name comes from a cluster of eroded crevices and sandstone boulders located on a portion of the land.The preserve is part of the Channels State Forest, managed by the Virginia Department of Forestry. The state forest and preserve are both open to the public, though an access permit is required for some activities on state forest lands.

Smithfield is a historic home and farm and national historic district located near Rosedale in Russell County, Virginia, United States. The district encompasses 13 contributing buildings and 5 contributing sites. The main house dates to the 1850s, and is a two-story, five-bay, central passage plan, brick Greek Revival style dwelling. Among the other buildings in the district are a brick spring house, a brick acetylene house, frame meat house, a former school house, frame horse barn, frame sheep barn, cow barn, a milking parlor, and a shop. The contributing sites include an earlier house seat, three cemeteries, and the site of a slave house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

The Channels Natural Area Preserve is located within the forest, which protects the Great Channels of Virginia, comprising slot canyons formed within 400-million-year-old sandstone outcroppings.Channels State Forest is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Forestry. The forest is open to the public for hunting, horseback riding, and hiking; camping and motorized vehicles are prohibited. Some uses require visitors to possess a valid State Forest Use Permit.

Rosedale is an unincorporated community in Russell County, Virginia, United States. Rosedale is located at the junction of U.S. Route 19 and Virginia State Route 80 4.6 miles (7.4 km) south-southeast of Honaker. The community was founded in 1819. Rosedale has a post office with ZIP code 24280, which opened on February 26, 1897. Rosedale was named for the area's Rosedale Plantation; the plantation was either named after the couple that owned the property or named for a "rose valley". The community has also been known as Elway and Oaks Garage, the latter name coming from a service station in the settlement.Smithfield was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
