Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church located near Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. It was built in 1756, altered in 1871, and completely remodeled in 1899–1900. It is a one-story, rectangular gray limestone building with a gable roof. Also on the property is the contributing church cemetery with tombstones dated as early as 1773.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.

Church Hill, also known as Timber Ridge Plantation, is a historic plantation house located near Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. It was built circa 1848, and is a two-story, three-bay, rectangular brick Greek Revival style dwelling. It has a one-story, rear kitchen ell. The house features stuccoed Doric order pilasters at the corners and midpoints of the long sides. Timber Ridge Plantation was the birthplace of Sam Houston (1793-1863). On the property is a non-contributing log building which tradition claims was constructed from logs salvaged from the Sam Houston birthplace cabin. The cabin is believed to have been located at the site of the kitchen ell.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Maple Hall is a historic home located near Lexington in Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA. The house was built in 1855 and is a two-story, three-bay, Greek Revival style brick dwelling on an English basement. It has a hipped roof and rear ell with a gable roof. It features a two-story pedimented front portico. The property includes the contributing two-story brick building which probably dates to the 1820s and a small log outbuilding. The home is currently occupied by a behavior modification program named Maple Hall Academy, and formerly housed a restaurant.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Fairfield is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Rockbridge County, Virginia, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 257.The CDP is in the northeast part of the county, along U.S. Route 11 (North Lee Highway), which leads northeast 12 miles (19 km) to Greenville and southwest 11 miles (18 km) to Lexington. Interstate 81/64 forms the northwest edge of the community, with access from Exit 200 (Sterrett Road). The Interstate highway runs parallel to US 11 and leads northeast 23 miles (37 km) to Staunton and southwest 8 miles (13 km) to where the highways split near Lexington.

The South River is a 20.3-mile-long (32.7 km) tributary of the Maury River in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is part of the James River watershed. It rises southwest of Lofton in Augusta County, Virginia, near the western base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and quickly receives the Saint Marys River coming out of the mountains from the east. Entering Rockbridge County near the village of Vesuvius, the South River continues to flow southwest and joins the Maury River between Lexington and Buena Vista.

Clifton is a historic home located near Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. The house was built about 1815, and is a two-story, seven bay, Federal style brick dwelling. It has a side gable roof and four chimneys. A two-story portico replaced an earlier Victorian portico in the 1980s. The property includes the contributing small stone servant's quarters or foreman's house and a wooden icehouse.The address is 205 Old Buena Vista Road. It was built by Major John Alexander and overlooks the Maury River. Washington and Lee rowing teams would race at this location in the late 1800s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Buena Vista Colored School is a historic school building for African American children located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1914, and expanded in 1926. It is a one-story, brick structure with a hipped, sheet metal roof. Also on the property is a contributing brick outbuilding once used to store wood and coal. The building served as the only local school for African American children in grades 1–7 from 1914 to 1957. The Buena Vista Colored School Historical Society was organized in 2002 to restore the school as a museum and community center.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Tankersley Tavern, also known as Old Bridge, is a historic building located near Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. It was built in three sections with the oldest dated to about 1835. It is a two-story, nine-bay, single pile, frame building with an exposed basement and a decorative two-level gallery on the front facade. Also on the property are the contributing washhouse/kitchen, three frame sheds and a stone abutment for a bridge. It was originally built as a toll house (toll gate) at the county end of the bridge crossing the Maury River from the Valley Turnpike into Lexington. It later housed a tavern, canal ticket office, general store, post office, and dwelling.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

W. N. Seay House is a historic home located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1889, and is a two-story, weatherboarded balloon-frame Late Victorian style dwelling. It features a highly decorated, one-story, three-bay porch with turned, bracketed posts and jig-sawn balustrade. Also on the property is a garage/utility building (c. 1900) with board-and-batten siding. It was built by William Nelson Seay (1850–1939), who helped found Buena Vista.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
