Clifton (Lexington, Virginia)

Tankersley Tavern, also known as Old Bridge, is a historic building located near Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. It was built in three sections with the oldest dated to about 1835. It is a two-story, nine-bay, single pile, frame building with an exposed basement and a decorative two-level gallery on the front facade. Also on the property are the contributing washhouse/kitchen, three frame sheds and a stone abutment for a bridge. It was originally built as a toll house (toll gate) at the county end of the bridge crossing the Maury River from the Valley Turnpike into Lexington. It later housed a tavern, canal ticket office, general store, post office, and dwelling.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Jordan's Point Historic District encompasses a collection of historic industrial resources at Jordan's Point Park in Lexington, Virginia. The area, long a major local crossing point of the Maury River, was developed about 1800 by John Jordan and John Moorhead, who established a sawmill on the site. In 1806 they dammed the river, and then built a cotton mill in 1808. Of this and later industrial activity on the site, only foundation remnants and the millrace remain; surviving structures associated with the development include the miller's house (c. 1815), now a local museum, and a chapel built in 1874.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Stono, also known as Jordan's Point (pronounced "Jer-don"), is a historic home located at Lexington, Virginia. It was built about 1818, and is a cruciform shaped brick dwelling consisting of a two-story, three-bay, central section with one-story, two-bay, flanking wings. The front facade features a two-story Roman Doric order portico with a modillioned pediment and lunette and a gallery at second-floor level. About 1870, a 1+1⁄2-story rear wing was added connecting the main house to a formerly separate loom house. Also on the property are a contributing summer kitchen, ice house, and office.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It is located in the Lexington Historic District.

Cormack Field House or "The Pit" is the track and field facility for the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets, located in Lexington, Virginia. It was VMI's home for basketball until 1981, when Cameron Hall was completed as the new VMI basketball arena. Cormack Field House is named after Walt Cormack, a VMI track coach for twenty-five years and who also started the "Winter Relays".

Alumni Memorial Field at Foster Stadium is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Lexington, Virginia, United States. It opened in 1962. It is home to the Virginia Military Institute Keydets football team.

Lylburn Downing School is a historic school building for African-American children located at Lexington, Virginia. It was built in 1926–1927, and is a one-story, Classical Revival style brick building. It has a columned entry porch and pilasters. A rear addition was constructed in 1939–1940, and a covered walkway in 1948–1949. The City of Lexington converted the original building into a community center in the late 1980s.Lylburn Downing Middle School currently serves as a small, city school located in Lexington, Virginia in the southwest Virginia Appalachian Mountains. The school serves 189 students in grades 6–8, with ages ranging from 11 to 15 years old. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

The Old Barracks is a historic building on the campus of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. Built in 1848 and repeatedly enlarged and redesigned by a succession of architects, it includes at its core the oldest surviving building of the campus. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965 for its architecture and its association with nation's oldest state-supported military academy.

The Virginia Military Institute Historic District is a 12-acre (4.9 ha) National Historic Landmark District encompassing the historic central core of the Virginia Military Institute campus in Lexington, Virginia. Developed beginning in 1839, the school grew into the premiere military academy in the Southern United States, providing trained military leaders to many of the nation's wars. The district includes the Barracks, which was separately declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The historic district was designated in 1974.

Cameron Hall is a 5,029–seat multi-purpose arena in Lexington, Virginia. It was built in 1981 and is home to the Virginia Military Institute Keydets basketball team. Although mainly used for basketball, the arena also holds VMI's commencement every May, as well as other large-scale events. It was named after brothers Bruce and Daniel Cameron, VMI Class of 1938 and 1942, respectively.

The George C. Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Virginia, was commissioned by President Harry S. Truman in order to preserve the papers of General George C. Marshall. Marshall served as Army chief of staff, secretary of state and defense and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 for the Marshall Plan.
