Mistley

Mistley railway station is on the Mayflower Line, a branch of the Great Eastern Main Line in the East of England, serving the village of Mistley, Essex. It is 61 miles 14 chains (98.45 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Manningtree to the west and Wrabness to the east. Its three-letter station code is MIS. The station was opened by the Eastern Union Railway in 1854. It is managed by Greater Anglia, which also operates all trains serving the station.

Mistley Towers are the twin towers of the now demolished Church of St. Mary the Virgin at Mistley in Essex (sometimes known as Mistley Thorn(e) Church). The original Georgian parish church on the site had been built in classical style early in the 18th century following the death of Richard Rigby Esquire. Later in that century there was a grandiose plan by his son, the wealthy politician Richard Rigby, to transform Mistley Thorn into a spa town.

Manningtree is a town and civil parish in the Tendring district of Essex, England, which lies on the River Stour. It is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Brantham Athletic Football Club is a football club based in Brantham, Suffolk, England. They are currently members of the Eastern Counties League Premier Division and play at Brantham Leisure Centre.

Manningtree High School is a secondary school with academy status in Lawford, Manningtree, Essex, England. The school has specialist status in Science. The headteacher is Mr Benjamin Briggs. The school have recently added a "Multi Use Games Area" (all weather pitch) on the field.

Horsleycross Street is a hamlet in the English county of Essex. Horsleycross Street lies on the B1035 road about a mile to the north of the main A120 that connects London and Harwich and to the north of Horsley Cross.

Bradfield railway station served the village of Bradfield in Essex. It was on the Manningtree to Harwich branch line, which is today known as The Mayflower Line. It closed in 1956. Consisting of just two through platforms it had no sidings for working local goods traffic, which was the normal scenario in rural East Anglia. The station buildings on the up platform were particularly splendid for a very small station and were captured by the well known and popular transport artist Malcolm Root FGRA. The facilities on the down platform were very modest by comparison. The station had a very restricted catchment area and with a local population of just 730 in 1901 and 811 in 1961, passenger numbers were always very limited. A level crossing at the west end of the station was controlled by a signal box on the up side with just 12 levers.

Brantham is a village and civil parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk, England. It is located close to the River Stour and the border with Essex, around 2 miles (3 km) north of Manningtree, and around 9 miles (14 km) southwest of Ipswich.

Cattawade Marshes is an 88.2-hectare (218-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between East Bergholt and Manningtree in Essex and Suffolk. It is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. It is a Ramsar wetland of international importance, and part of the Stour and Orwell Special Protection Area, and the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The site is a marsh area between two arms of the River Stour. It is of major importance for breeding birds, especially waders and wildfowl, such as Shoveler, Teal, Tufted Duck and Water Rail. Other habitats are grassland and ditches.There is no public access but the site can be viewed from a public footpath on the south side of the river.

Bradfield Heath is a village in Essex, England. It is located in between the A120 road and the B1352 road. It is the location of the former Bradfield Hall, which was demolished c.1955. Bradfield Hall was the home of Sir John Raynsford (c.1482-1559) (MP for Colchester and High Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire for 1537–38) and Sir Harbottle Grimston, 1st Baronet (c.1569–1648) (MP for Harwich and Essex and also High Sheriff). Sir Harbottle was a leading Parliamentarian during the Civil War.

Lawford is a large village and civil parish in the Tendring district of northeast Essex, England. It is approximately 6 miles (10 km) northeast from the centre of Colchester and west of, and contiguous with, Manningtree. Mistley merges with the east side of Manningtree. Lawford has two junior schools, Lawford Church of England Primary School and Highfields Primary School, situated near Manningtree High School. The 14th-century parish Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building. Ogilvie Hall is the name of the village hall on Wignall Street, and there is a more modern facility called The Venture Centre off Bromley Road.The Leftley Housing estate, situated towards the east of the village, is a typical 1960s development of mainly semi-detached houses and bungalows. More recent housing developments include the Summers park and Lawford Dale housing estates constructed by Rose builders, and Manningtree Park, which as of 2023 is currently under construction. The area includes a number of smallholdings originally built by the Land Settlement Association.
