Mistley Towers

Mistley is a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of northeast Essex, England. It is around 11 miles northeast of Colchester and is east of, and almost contiguous with, Manningtree. The parish consists of Mistley and New Mistley, both lying beside the Stour Estuary, and Mistley Heath, a kilometre to the south. Mistley railway station serves Mistley on the Mayflower line. Mistley is the location of one of five Cold War control rooms in Essex. Built in 1951, it was opened as a museum called the Secret Bunker in 1996 but closed in 2002.

Brantham is a village and civil parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk, England. It is located close to the River Stour and the border with Essex, around 2 miles (3 km) north of Manningtree, and around 9 miles (14 km) southwest of Ipswich.

Cattawade Marshes is an 88.2-hectare (218-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between East Bergholt and Manningtree in Essex and Suffolk. It is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. It is a Ramsar wetland of international importance, and part of the Stour and Orwell Special Protection Area, and the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The site is a marsh area between two arms of the River Stour. It is of major importance for breeding birds, especially waders and wildfowl, such as Shoveler, Teal, Tufted Duck and Water Rail. Other habitats are grassland and ditches.There is no public access but the site can be viewed from a public footpath on the south side of the river.

It is also the western terminus of the Mayflower Line, a branch line to Harwich Town. The following station on the branch is Mistley. The station is currently operated by Greater Anglia, who also operate all trains serving it, as part of the East Anglia franchise.

Lawford is a large village and civil parish in the Tendring district of northeast Essex, England. It is approximately 6 miles (10 km) northeast from the centre of Colchester and west of, and contiguous with, Manningtree. Mistley merges with the east side of Manningtree. Lawford has two junior schools, Lawford Church of England Primary School and Highfields Primary School, situated near Manningtree High School. The 14th-century parish Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building. Ogilvie Hall is the name of the village hall on Wignall Street, and there is a more modern facility called The Venture Centre off Bromley Road.The Leftley Housing estate, situated towards the east of the village, is a typical 1960s development of mainly semi-detached houses and bungalows. More recent housing developments include the Summers park and Lawford Dale housing estates constructed by Rose builders, and Manningtree Park, which as of 2023 is currently under construction. The area includes a number of smallholdings originally built by the Land Settlement Association.

Bradfield railway station served the village of Bradfield in Essex. It was on the Manningtree to Harwich branch line, which is today known as The Mayflower Line. It closed in 1956. Consisting of just two through platforms it had no sidings for working local goods traffic, which was the normal scenario in rural East Anglia. The station buildings on the up platform were particularly splendid for a very small station and were captured by the well known and popular transport artist Malcolm Root FGRA. The facilities on the down platform were very modest by comparison. The station had a very restricted catchment area and with a local population of just 730 in 1901 and 811 in 1961, passenger numbers were always very limited. A level crossing at the west end of the station was controlled by a signal box on the up side with just 12 levers.
