Herford – Minden-Lübbecke II

Herford Abbey (German: Frauenstift Herford) was the oldest women's religious house in the Duchy of Saxony. It was founded as a house of secular canonesses in 789, initially in Müdehorst (near the modern Bielefeld) by a nobleman called Waltger, who moved it in about 800 onto the lands of his estate Herivurth (later Oldenhervorde) which stood at the crossing of a number of important roads and fords over the Aa and the Werre. The present city of Herford grew up on this site around the abbey.

Bowerre is a small river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a former branch of the river Werre in Herford.

The Ravensberg Basin (German: Ravensberger Mulde) or Ravensberg Hills (Ravensberger Hügelland) is a natural region in the governorate of Detmold (Ostwestfalen-Lippe) in the northeastern part of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia; small elements also fall within the neighbouring state of Lower Saxony. It is part of the lower Weser Uplands and includes the hilly basin country between the Wiehen Hills in the north, Lippe Uplands in the east, Teutoburg Forest in the south and Osnabrück Hills in the west. The heart of the Ravensberg Basin is almost coincident with the cultural region of the Ravensberg Land.

Ravensberg Land (German: Ravensberger Land) is a cultural landscape in the district of Ostwestfalen-Lippe in the northeast of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It lies between the Wiehen Hills to the north, the Teutoburg Forest to the south, the state border with Lower Saxony to the west and the large bend in the River Weser and the boundary of Lippe district to the east. It thus essentially encompasses the Westphalian part of the Ravensberg Hills. The most important towns are Bielefeld (northern and central quarters), Herford, Bad Oeynhausen and Bünde. The area is characterised by long-standing, intensive farming in its loess, hill country, a wide range of industry and a high population density. Historically the region was dominated by centuries of Prussian overlordship. Until into the 20th century, its people were purely of the Evangelical-Lutheran faith and had a common dialect known as Ravensberger Platt. Ravensberg Land must not be confused with the natural region of the Ravensberg Basin or the territory of the County of Ravensberg. It is often not understood that these three terms are used in different contexts and the areas they relate to, despite significant overlap, are not identical.

Herford station is a junction station with four platforms and seven platform tracks in the town of Herford in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It lies on the quadruple track, electrified Hamm–Minden railway, a section of the original route of the historic Cologne-Minden Railway Company. In Herford Station, the line to Altenbeken branches off to the south and the Ravensberg Railway branches off towards the north to Bünde and Rahden with a connection to the Löhne–Rheine railway. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 2 station.

Aa (also: Westfälische Aa, "Westphalian Aa") is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Werre, which it joins in Herford. It is formed by the confluence of two small streams in Bielefeld-Milse. In its upper part, it is called Johannisbach.

Stadttheater Herford is a theatre in Herford, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a venue without an ensemble of its own.

Butterbach (also: Putchemühlenbach) is a small river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Werre in Herford.

Vivani Organic Chocolate is a brand of chocolate created by EcoFinia GmbH, a subsidiary of Ludwig Weinrich GmbH & Co. KG., based in Herford, Germany. First introduced in 2000 at the international organic food fair, BioFach, Vivani chocolate is predominantly sold in organic supermarkets and shops, where it claims market leadership in organic chocolate bars.

The Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie (North West German Philharmonic) is a German symphony orchestra based in Herford. It was founded in 1950 and, along with Philharmonie Südwestfalen and Landesjugendorchester NRW, is one of the 'official' orchestras (Landesorchester) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The orchestra has been shaped by conductors such as Wilhelm Schüchter, Hermann Scherchen and Andris Nelsons. They have regularly served several cities in northwest Germany, and toured internationally to halls such as Berliner Philharmonie, Tonhalle Zürich and Großes Festspielhaus in Salzburg, also to the U.S. and Japan. In 1995, they played the premiere recording of Shostakovich's unfinished opera Die Spieler (The Gamblers), sung in Russian by soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre conducted by Michail Jurowski. They were the orchestra for the project Der Ring in Minden, concluded in 2019. Jonathon Heyward has been chief conductor from 2021.

Uhlenbach is a small river located in the northeastern region of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a tributary of the Werre river, and part of the Weser River's river system. The Uhlenbach drains water from the Ravensberg Hills.

British Forces Germany (BFG) was the generic name for the three services of the British Armed Forces, made up of service personnel, UK Civil Servants, and dependents (family members), based in Germany. It was established following the Second World War, the largest parts of it becoming known as the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) and RAF Germany (RAFG). Both components had the mission of defending West Germany and remained there for the rest of the Cold War. It was the largest concentration of British armed forces permanently stationed outside the United Kingdom. With the end of the Cold War, and the Options for Change defence review in the early 1990s, BFG as a whole was considerably reduced, with the British presence centred on the 1st Armoured Division, and supporting elements. Following the 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review, the permanent deployment in Germany ended in 2020. This was after British forces personnel were scaled down over several years, with 19,100 in April 2010, and 2,850 in April 2019. However, around 185 British Army personnel and 60 Ministry of Defence civilians will stay in Germany beyond 2020.The remaining presence in Germany is known as British Army Germany.
