Asenray (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈaːsə(n)raːi]; Limburgish: Azeraoj [ˈaːzəʀɔːj]) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Roermond, and lies about 3 km east of Roermond. It was first mentioned in 1267 as "vicum qui dicitur Asenraede", and means "forest cultivation by Aso (person)". Asenray was home to 194 people in 1840. A church was built in 1932. In 1945, just before liberation, it was blown up by the Germans. In 1948, a new church was built.

Hillenraad Castle (Dutch: Kasteel Hillenraad [kɑˈsteːl ˈɦɪlə(n)ˌraːt]; Limburgish: Kesjteel Hilleraod [kəˈʃteːl ˈɦɪləʀɔːt]) is a 14th century square water castle located on the south side of Swalmen in the municipality of Roermond in the province of Limburg. The castle is located in the middle of an estate near the village of Boukoul. It consists of a moated main building with four corner towers, an outer castle, several outbuildings and a castle park. Hillenraad Castle has been a protected national monument since 1970. The entire complex consists of twenty separate entries in the national monument register, including the main building, the outbuildings and a number of elements in the park. The castle is not open to the public.

Swalmen (Dutch: [ˈsʋɑlmə(n)] ; Limburgish: Zjwame [ˈʒwaː˦mə]) is a town in the south-eastern Netherlands. The town is situated between the German border and the river Meuse (Maas in Dutch). Until 1 January 2007, Swalmen was a separate municipality, covering the villages Swalmen, Asselt and Boukoul. These are now part of the municipality of Roermond. Many monuments are found in Swalmen, most notable the Hillenraad castle, the romanesque 'Rozenkerkje' church in Asselt, and castle farms Graeterhof and Zuidewijk Spick. The area attracts tourists for its peaceful surroundings, asparagus, the Groenewoud forest and forestrial swimming pool de Bosberg. In 1863, the Swalmen railway station opened on the Maastricht to Venlo railway line. In 2003, the railway line was moved to make room for the A73 motorway and the railway station is now detached from the rails. The building was scheduled for demolition, however it has remained.The only physical Max Verstappen shop is located in Swalmen.

Asselt (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɑ.səlt]; Limburgish: Assel) is a village in the municipality of Roermond in the province of Limburg in the Netherlands. The town is located on the Meuse and also on the Maasplassen. Approximately 165 people live there (2022). It is best known for its elevated old church. The exterior and interior are special, but especially its location on a hill, and also on a river, is very exceptional in the Netherlands.

Maasniel is a neighbourhood of Roermond in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located east of the city centre. Maasniel used to be a separate village. It was a separate municipality until 1959, when it was merged with Roermond.

The Schwalm (German) or Swalm (Dutch), is a small river in Germany and the Netherlands, tributary to the river Meuse. Its source is near Wegberg, in the district Heinsberg, south-west of Mönchengladbach, in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). The Schwalm flows through Wegberg and Brüggen before flowing into the Meuse across the border with the Netherlands, in Swalmen. Its total length is 45 km.

Melick en Herkenbosch is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Limburg. It covered the villages of Melick and Herkenbosch. In 1991, the municipality merged with Vlodrop, and in 1993, it changed its name to Roerdalen.

Roermond is a railway station located in Roermond, Netherlands. The station was opened on 21 November 1865 and is located on the Maastricht–Venlo railway and the Weert–Roermond railway. Train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen and Arriva. The station is the second-busiest in Limburg.

The Grave with the Hands (Dutch: Graf met de handjes, lit. 'Grave with the little hands') is a 19th-century funerary monument in the Dutch city of Roermond. It comprises two almost identical tombstones on either side of a wall separating the Catholic part from the Protestant part of Begraafplaats Nabij de Kapel in 't Zand (Cemetery Near the Chapel in the Sand), each with a carved arm and hand that clasps the other across the wall. The monument marks the graves of Josephina van Aefferden, a Catholic, and Jacobus van Gorkum, a Protestant, who were married in life, but had to be buried in separate sections of the cemetery. It was listed as a rijksmonument (state monument) in 2002.

Roermond Charterhouse, otherwise Bethlehem Charterhouse (Dutch: Kartuizerklooster Bethlehem, Kartuizerklooster Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Bethlehem), was a Carthusian monastery or charterhouse in Roermond in the province of Limburg in the south Netherlands. It was founded in 1376 by Werner van Swalmen, a canon at Maastricht, after he had returned from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and settled by 12 monks from Cologne Charterhouse. One of the first priors was the prominent scholar Henry of Kalkar. The important and prolific 15th-century theologian Denis the Carthusian (1402–1471) was a monk here. In the 15th century the charterhouse was able to undertake the settlement of two new monasteries, Vught Charterhouse (1466) and Vogelsang Charterhouse (1478). The monastery was destroyed by fire in 1554 and pillaged by the army of William the Silent, Prince of Orange, in 1572, when half the monks were killed, subsequently known as the Martyrs of Roermond. The monastery was re-founded in 1576 but suffered another serious fire in 1665. The monastery enjoyed prosperity in the 18th century but was suppressed under the Josephine Reforms in 1783. In 1841 the buildings were taken over for the seminary of the Diocese of Roermond, which occupied them until 1961. They are now used as the diocesan offices. The mediaeval monastic chapel, re-dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo in 1841, continues in use as a church.

The Munsterkerk (Munster) is a 13th-century church dedicated to Our Lady in the Dutch town of Roermond. Its remarkable front towers are 55 meter in height. The Munsterkerk is one of the most important examples of Late Romanesque architecture in the Netherlands. The Roermond Minster is the only surviving part of an abbey, the rest of which was demolished in 1924. The church was renovated by architect P. J. H. Cuypers between 1863 and 1890; during this renovation, the two front towers were added while after a smaller baroque bell tower on the nave was removed, and the originally octagonal eastern towers were replaced by square ones. The renovation of the Roermond Minster was highly controversial, but Cuypers continued to renovate the Minster according to his plan. In 1992, the church was damaged by an earthquake which destroyed the two eastern towers, which were rebuilt shortly after. The church is a Rijksmonument, and is part of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites.
