Medborgarplatsen

Medborgarplatsen, formerly known as Södra Bantorget, is a station on the Green line of the Stockholm metro. It is situated near to the Medborgarplatsen square in the district of Södermalm in central Stockholm, and lies below Götgatan between its junctions with Noe Arksgränden and Folkungagatan. The station has a single island platform, which is accessed by entrances at the junction of Götgatan with Folkungagatan, and in the Björns trädgård. The distance to Slussen is 0.6 km (0.37 mi).Medborgarplatsen is, along with Skanstull, the oldest underground station on the metro, actually predating that system by some years. The station lies in the Södertunneln, a tunnel originally built in 1933 for use by routes 8 and 19 of the Stockholm tramway. Originally known as Södra Bantorget, the station took its current name in 1944. In 1950, it became part of Stockholm's first metro line when the Södertunneln was adapted to become part of the line from Slussen south to Hökarängen. This adaption required an extension of the station platforms to the north to accommodate the metro's trains, and this work was not completed when the line opened on 1 October, with the station not reopening until 1 November. The entance in the Björns trädgård was opened on 29 November 1995.The walls of the station have yellow tiles, partly original from the 1930s. As part of Art in the Stockholm metro project, Gunnar Söderström designed the color scheme of the pillars and walls in 1979. In the southern ticket hall there is a wall decoration and floor mosaic by Mari Pårup from 1997.

The Lillienhoff Palace (Swedish Lillienhoffska palatset) is a building located on a corner of the large square Medborgarplatsen in southcentral Stockholm, Sweden. The property is owned and managed by municipally owned AB Stadsholmen.

Forsgrenska medborgarhuset or colloquially Medborgarhuset (Swedish for Citizen's Building) is a civic hall in Stockholm, Sweden, located on the southern side of Medborgarplatsen, Södermalm. The complex contains a public bath, an auditorium, a local library, a gymnasium, a children's theatre, and several meeting-rooms. The building was thoroughly restored in 1981, and the bath updated in 1988–1989 with the addition of a winter garden.Built 1936–1939, the yellow brick building is the Neoclassical Functionalist design of Karl Martin Westerberg, even though the classical features of the tall gables facing the public square were significantly reduced in the final design. The architect thought to solve the complex programme by breaking up the volume into three parts to permit daylight to reach the core. Notwithstanding, the building forms a compact volume and renders heavy on its neighbourhood.Swedish minister for foreign affairs Anna Lindh gave her last speech on the stairs of Medborgarhuset on September 9, 2003, two days before she was assassinated.

The Diocese of Stockholm (Latin: Dioecesis Holmiensis; Swedish: Stockholms katolska stift) is an exempt Latin Catholic ecclesiastical bishopric in Sweden and the only Catholic diocese established in Sweden since the Protestant Reformation. The diocese belongs to no ecclesiastical province but forms an episcopal conference with its Nordic neighbours. Saint Eric's Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in Stockholm, Sweden. It is located on Södermalm, the southern part of central Stockholm. It was built in 1892 and was raised to the status of a cathedral in 1953, when the Catholic Diocese of Stockholm was created (still the only one in Sweden). The substantial increase in the number of Catholics in Stockholm and Sweden, mostly as a result of immigration after World War II, made the old church insufficient, and an extension, designed by architects Hans Westman and Ylva Lenormand, was inaugurated in 1983, at the 200th anniversary of the re-establishment in 1783 of the Catholic Church in Lutheran Sweden. The block where the cathedral is located also contains other functions serving the Catholic Church in Sweden. The church takes its name from Saint Eric, the 12th-century king of Sweden who, having been slain by a Danish prince, came to be regarded as a martyr and the patron saint of Sweden and Stockholm, depicted in the seal and coat of arms of the city.

Scandic Hotel Malmen, commonly called Hotell Malmen or Malmen for short, is a hotel on Götgatan 49–51 in Södermalm, Stockholm, Sweden. The building has been graded by the Stockholm City Museum as having a particularly high cultural history value from the point of view of history, cultural history, the environment and the arts.

Katarina-Sofia was a borough (stadsdelsområde) in central Stockholm, named after the two parishes of Katarina and Sofia. Effective January 1, 2007, the borough merged with the borough of Maria-Gamla Stan to form the Södermalm borough. Katarina-Sofia was made up of the eastern half of Södermalm and Hammarby Sjöstad (Södra Hammarbyhamnen). The population as of 2004 was 42,750 on an area of 3.36 km², which gave a density of 12,723.21/km².

Björns trädgård is a park on Södermalm in Stockholm, Sweden. The park is located by the major street Götgatan, opposite Medborgarplatsen.

South Tower (Swedish: "Söder Torn") is a high-rise building located on Fatburstrappan 18, next to Fatbursparken on Södermalm in Stockholm. The building has a height of about 86 metres (282 ft) above the ground including the "crown" and consists of 25 floors. The Söder Torn complex contains three additional buildings, including one that abuts Medborgarplatsen. Collectively, the buildings contain 172 condominium apartments and 5 businesses. The South Tower itself has 85 apartments and one business. A garage contains parking for both cars and motorcycles.

Den gröne Jägaren (meaning "The Green Hunter") is a bar and restaurant at Götgatan 64 in Södermalm, Stockholm, Sweden. It began at a small tavern in the 1600s at Sankt Paulsgatan, near Van der Nootska Palace. It is said that Jacob Johan Anckarström ate his dinner at the Den gröne Jägaren on March 16, 1792, before he went to the Gustavian Opera House to shoot the king Gustav III. Today's restaurant is located on the ground floor of Hellgrenska Palace and was built in 1866. On the façade there is the classic flag sign with a green clad hunter with his gun.

Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's Mosque (Swedish: Zaid Ben Sultan Al Nahayans moské, Arabic: جامع زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان), commonly known as the Stockholm Mosque (Stockholms moské) or the Stockholm Grand Mosque (Stockholms stora moské), is the largest mosque in Stockholm, Sweden. It is located at Kapellgränd 10, adjacent to the small park Björns trädgård, in the Södermalm district of Stockholm. Inaugurated in 2000, the mosque is administered by the Islamic Association in Stockholm.
