Denham, Buckinghamshire

The Denham Roundabout is a road junction in Denham, Buckinghamshire. It was originally opened in 1943 in conjunction with the completion of the new Western Avenue route into west London. The Western Avenue took over the classification of the A40, with the previous route to London, via Uxbridge and Ealing, being reclassified as the A4020. The roundabout also included a new link to A412 that formed part of the outer London orbital route. Since 1973, the westbound A40, now flows into the M40 motorway at this point. The roundabout below facilitates junction 1 (J1) of the motorway to connect with the westbound continuation of the A40, together with the intersection of the road from Uxbridge (A4020) and the road from Slough to Watford (A412).When the M40 from Denham to High Wycombe was built, Western Avenue was extended at high level to make an end-on join with the motorway, and a larger roundabout was built below the bridges carrying the motorway. When first laid out, the roundabout had the traffic going round it clockwise in the usual way, but as traffic volumes built up, the layout was altered so that the traffic moved round the roundabout in both directions, making it a ring junction with roundabouts at the points that other roads join the main roundabout.

Hills House is a 17th-century residence located on the Village Road in Denham, Buckinghamshire, England. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, it was the home of actress Merle Oberon and her husband, the film producer Sir Alexander Korda. In 1975 the house was purchased by Sir John and Lady Mills.

Buckinghamshire Golf Club, containing the Denham Court Mansion, is a golf club near Denham, Buckinghamshire, England, United Kingdom.It is accessed via Denham Country Drive off the M40 motorway near the junction with the M25 motorway. The golf course and surroundings form part of the Denham Country Park, an area which the poet John Dryden called "one of the most delicious spots in England". The mansion is set in a course of 226 acres, designed by the former Ryder Cup captain John Jacobs. The golf club was established in 1992. The River Misbourne flows through the course. The club hosted the Senior Tournament of Champions on the European Seniors Tour from 1996 to 2000, the Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf European Final in 1997, which was won by Colin Montgomerie, and the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters on the Ladies European Tour since 2012.

The River Misbourne rises in a field on the outskirts of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire, passing through Little Missenden, Old Amersham, Chalfont St Giles, Chalfont St Peter and under the Chiltern railway line and the M25 motorway to its confluence with the River Colne just north of where the Colne is crossed by Western Avenue, the A40 road. It falls by around 94 m (310 ft) in the course of its 27 km (17 mi) length.

Denham Country Park is a 69-acre public park and Local Nature Reserve in Buckinghamshire and the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is part of the 42 square mile Colne Valley Regional Park, and the Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre and cafe are located in Denham Country Park. The Colne and Misbourne rivers pass through the park and the Grand Union Canal forms its eastern boundary. It has a variety of wildlife, including herons, kingfishers, damselflies and dragonflies.There is access from Denham Court Drive and the canal towpath.

Old Rectory Meadows is a 7.9-hectare (20-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Denham in Buckinghamshire.This site on the bank of the River Misbourne has wet alluvial and water meadows, marsh and alder carr woodland. It has plants which are rare in the county such as marsh arrowgrass, and its irregular structure provides a suitable habitat for insects.It is private land with no public access.

Kingcup Meadows and Oldhouse Wood is a 13.2-hectare (33-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Denham in Buckinghamshire.The site is a mosaic of different habitats next to the River Alder Bourne, including unimproved pasture and woodland. The meadows have dry and wet grassland, swamp and fen. The eastern fields are grazed by cattle and the eastern ones, which are drier, have a late hay crop. Grasses include red fescue and in drier areas and creeping bent in wetter ones. Oldhouse Wood has ash and field maple on upper slopes and oak and birch on lower ones. There are several species of dragonfly.There is access from a road between Copse Hill Farm and Willetts Lane.

The Crown and Treaty is a pub on Oxford Road in Uxbridge, London, England, where Charles I and his Parliamentary opponents during the English Civil War held negotiations (the Treaty of Uxbridge) between 30 January and 22 February 1645. It is a Grade II* listed, dating from 1576.

Uxbridge High Street railway station in Uxbridge, England, was on what is now Oxford Road near its junction with Sanderson Road. It was the southern terminus and only station on the Great Western Railway (GWR) branch line from the GWR/GCR joint line, which is now the Chiltern Main Line.

Denham Lock Wood is a 6.3-hectare (16-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) next to the Grand Union Canal, and near Denham in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It was notified in 1986 and is managed by the London Wildlife Trust on behalf of Hillingdon Council. It lies within the Colne Valley Regional Park.It is a poorly drained wet woodland and fen site which is skirted by the Frays River. The main trees are alder and crack willow in the wetter areas, and elsewhere oak and ash with a shrub layer of hazel. In winter wildfowl are visible and in spring many flower species. Invertebrates include red cardinal beetles, banded demoiselles and the rare and protected Desmoulin's whorl snail. The balsam carpet moth was added to the list of British species when it was found at the Wood in 1955, and it is only known at one other site in Britain.Access is by a footbridge across Frays River from Frays Farm Meadows, which is also an SSSI managed by the London Wildlife Trust, south of the Wood. Access to the Meadows is by a stile on the east side of the Grand Union Canal at Denham Lock.
