Torfaen is a constituency in Wales represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Nick Thomas-Symonds, a member of the Labour Party who also serves as the Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade. It was established for the 1983 general election. The constituency is to retain its name and gain wards, as part of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies and under the June 2023 final recommendations of the Boundary Commission for Wales for the next United Kingdom general election.

Torfaen is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. It is also one of eight constituencies in the South Wales East electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to eight constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole.

Upper Cwmbran (Welsh: Cwmbrân Uchaf) is a suburb of Cwmbran, Torfaen in Wales. It lies in between the suburbs of Pontnewydd and Thornhill. It is a community and electoral ward of Torfaen County Borough Council.

Thornhill is a large council estate on the western side of Cwmbran, Torfaen in Wales. It is adjacent to the suburbs of Greenmeadow and Upper Cwmbran and represents the most economically-improved area of Cwmbran and in the wider Torfaen area. The estate is large and sprawling, built in the mid-1970s as temporary housing during the redevelopment of Pillgwenlly (Pill Newport). The residents liked the houses and never left. It is built around the original Thornhill farm house, which is still situated in the middle of the estate. The farm originally farmed pigs, and the woodland now surrounding the main estate has remains of the old walls and pig sties. The estate is divided into small cul de sacs that are named after Welsh rivers or lakes. The main thoroughfare is Hafren Road (Hafren is Welsh for the River Severn). At the centre of the estate is a small shopping precinct which is home to a convenience store, newsagent, fish and chip shop, chemist, and pub.

Pen Tranch is a large village and a community in Torfaen, South East Wales. It lies to the west of Pontypool in the valley leading west to Crumlin. It lies in the historic county of Monmouthshire and the preserved county of Gwent. The area includes the electoral wards of Pontnewynydd, Snatchwood, and Wainfelin for Torfaen County Borough Council.

Cwmffrwdoer Halt railway station served the suburb of Pontnewynydd, in the historical county of Monmouthshire, Wales, from 1912 to 1941 on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway.

Cwmbran High School (Welsh: Ysgol Uwchradd Cwmbran), previously known as Fairwater High School, is a state-funded and non-selective comprehensive school in the Fairwater district of Cwmbran, Torfaen, Wales. The school is one of two secondary schools in Cwmbran, the other being Croesyceiliog. It educates children from the age of 11 up to 16. The school also houses the community swimming pool. Construction began in 1969 and was to replace the secondary modern in Coed Eva, opened in 1960, that had to become a primary school in order to accommodate the growing younger population in Cwmbran New Town. In 2015, as part of Torfaen County's 21st Century Schools Programme, Llantarnam School, one of the original Cwmbran New Town schools, closed and was merged with Fairwater High to form a new school on the latter site. It opened in September of that year as Cwmbran High School. Cwmbran High School also has a Hearing Impaired Base and an ASD Base attached. The Governing body has now been replaced by an Interim Executive Board (IEB) and has recently introduced a Shadow Governing Body. [1]

Pontnewynydd is a predominantly working class suburb of Pontypool, Torfaen, in Wales. It should not be confused with Pontnewydd in nearby Cwmbran.

Greenmeadow is a suburb of Cwmbran in the county borough of Torfaen, within the historic county boundaries of Monmouthshire, southern Wales, United Kingdom. Not to be confused with Green Meadow Golf Club, which is on the other side of Cwmbran in Croesyceiliog.

Fairwater is a community and suburb of Cwmbran in the county borough of Torfaen, in south east Wales, and was built by the Cwmbran Development Corporation between 1963 and 1966.

Cwmynyscoy is a suburb of Pontypool in Torfaen, South Wales.
