Naval Station Rota, also known as NAVSTA Rota (IATA: ROZ, ICAO: LERT) (Spanish: Base Naval de Rota), is a Spanish-U.S. naval base commanded by a Spanish rear admiral. Located in Rota in the Province of Cádiz, NAVSTA Rota is the largest American military community in Spain, housing U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps personnel. There are also small U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force contingents on the base.

The town of Rota is a Spanish municipality located in the Province of Cádiz, Andalusia. Its surface area is 84 km2 and is bordered by the towns of Chipiona, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María. It is located near the city of Jerez de la Frontera and is 36 kilometers away from the provincial capital, Cadiz. It had in the year 2009 28,516 inhabitants, with a density of 339 inhabitants / km2. It belongs to two associations, the Association of Municipalities of Cadiz Bay along with the municipalities of Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, San Fernando, Chiclana and Puerto Real; and the Association of Municipalities of the Lower Guadalquivir that comprises municipalities of Northwest Coast of Andalusia. Located along the Bay of Cádiz in the Atlantic Ocean, it is halfway between Portugal and Gibraltar, is predominantly a tourist town, a vacation/holiday destination for travelers from all over Europe. During the low season, its main business activity is the fishing industry. In the municipality is located the Naval Station Rota, which is the largest source of employment to the municipality. It also served as a transoceanic abort landing site for the Space Shuttle program.

El Puerto de Santa María (Spanish pronunciation: [el ˈpweɾto ðe ˈsanta maˈɾi.a], lit. "the Port of Saint Mary"), locally known as El Puerto and historically in English as Port Saint Mary, is a municipality of Spain located on the banks of the Guadalete River in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia. As of 2016, the city has a population of c. 88,184, of which some 50,000 live in the urban center, and the remainder in the surrounding areas. The town of El Puerto de Santa María is located 10 km (6 mi) northeast of Cádiz, across the bay of Cádiz.

The Real Plaza de Toros de El Puerto de Santa María is a bullring in El Puerto de Santa María, Spain. Dating from the 19th century, it has an eclectic architectural style and was completed in 1880. It is the work of Manuel Portillo de Avila y Herrera. The arena is 99 metres in diameter and the central ruedo measures 60 m. It is estimated to hold 12,186 spectators, making it one of the largest rings in Spain behind Madrid's Las Ventas and the ring in Valencia.

The Priory Church (Spanish: Iglesia Mayor Prioral) is a minor basilica church in El Puerto de Santa María, province of Cádiz, Spain. It is documented from 1486 when the building was under construction. It was damaged by an earthquake in the 17th century and was partly rebuilt in the Baroque style. As a result of being constructed in two phases, the church contains both Gothic and Baroque architecture, exemplified in its portals. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural (a category in the Spanish heritage register) in 1982.

The Museo Arqueológico Municipal de El Puerto de Santa María is a museum located in El Puerto de Santa María, in the province of Cádiz, southern Spain. It was founded in 1980. It contains paintings and sculptures of Francisco Lameyer, Eulogio Varela Sartorio, Enrique Ochoa, Fernando Jesús, Juan Lara, Manolo Prieto, and some works of Rafael Alberti. Some pieces are exhibited in another building called Hospitalito.

The Museo Fundación Rafael Alberti is a museum in El Puerto de Santa María, Spain, which explores the life of the writer and poet Rafael Alberti.

Castle of San Marcos (also Castillo de Alfonso X El Sabio) is a medieval castle located in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, Spain. The castle was erected as a fortified church by King Alfonso X of Castile. It was built on the site of a mosque of which the wall of the qibla survives. Close to the castle there is a replica of the map of Juan de la Cosa, along with an explanatory plaque; and a little fountain.

The House of Vizarrón (Spanish: La Casa Vizarrón o de las Cadenas) is a house located in El Puerto de Santa María, Spain. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 2006.

Parque Genovés is a historical garden located in the seaside of Cádiz city in Andalusia, Spain. Its origin can be traced back to the middle of the 19th century, having been widened and remodeled a few times since then. By the name Genovés, it could be thought that the park is of Genovese style, but it actually owes its name to a former city major called Eduardo José Genovés y Puig, who made important reforms to it. The garden has a great number of plant species, including some which thrive properly in tropical latitudes, being it possible due to the high humidity of the city combined with the mild temperatures that characterize the Mediterranean climate. A group of them have drawn special interest, either for its longevity or big size. Besides the plant species, considered a matter of interest are also the statues and memorials that pay homage to notable people and historical facts that influenced the history of Spain. Examples of them are the botanist Celestino Mutis, composer Manuel de Falla and the Battle of Trafalgar. The park has a recreated waterfall with a platform above that allows to appreciate the views of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a passage inside the rocks. Close to it, there is a playground area for children and a restaurant.

The Jardín Botánico de Cádiz was an eighteenth-century example of a botanical garden for the study of medicine located in Cádiz, Spain. It was founded by Pedro Virgili, director of the Royal College of Surgeons of the Navy (now part of the University of Cádiz). Virgili set about acquiring the site for the garden on April 22, 1749, shortly after the foundation of the Royal College. The plants were grouped according to their medicinal use in order to help the students apply their knowledge of botany in a medical context. José Celestino Mutis, who was one of the first students at the college, went on to become a famous botanist. Botanical gardens are named after him in Colombia and Spain.

Singeing the King of Spain's Beard is the derisive name given to a series of attacks by the English privateer Francis Drake against the Spanish in the summer of 1587, beginning in April with a raid on Cádiz. This was an attack on the Spanish naval forces assembling in the Bay of Cádiz in preparation for the planned expedition against England. Much of the Spanish fleet was destroyed, and substantial supplies were destroyed or captured. There followed a series of raiding parties against several forts along the Portuguese coast. A Spanish treasure ship, returning from the Indies, was also captured. The damage caused by the English delayed Spanish preparations for the Armada by at least a year.
