Keadby

The original Keadby railway station was the easternmost terminus of the South Yorkshire Railway. The railway, which was extended from Thorne and opened in September 1859 was built without an Act of Parliament, as the railway company owned the canal alongside which they built the line. The station and other railway associated facilities were situated on the west bank of the River Trent to the north of the point where the Stainforth and Keadby Canal passed through a lock to access the river. On 1 May 1866, the first Keadby Bridge and the associated diversionary route were brought into use for goods trains; passenger trains started using the new route on 1 October. On that date, Keadby station was renamed Keadby for Amcotts and Burringham.The station closed on 2 November 1874. Although the goods and locomotive facilities remained, the locomotive facilities, until the opening of a new shed at Frodingham, were replaced when the line was diverted to cross the Trent by a swing bridge situated some 150 yards upstream. This bridge, itself, was replaced in 1914 with a new lifting bridge, which although now fixed, is still in use today. The present day station was originally known as Keadby and Althorpe but this has been shortened to Althorpe.

Keadby Power Stations are a pair of natural gas-fired power stations near Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire, built on the site of an older coal power station. The site lies near the B1392 and the River Trent, and the Scunthorpe-Grimsby railway. Also nearby is the Stainforth and Keadby Canal, which is part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation. The current stations are operated by SSE Thermal. SSE also owns a 68 MWe capacity wind farm, Keadby Wind Farm, nearby. This was England's largest onshore wind farm, and started operating in July 2014.

Althorpe railway station serves the village of Althorpe in North Lincolnshire, England. The station is also very close to the villages of Keadby, Gunness and Burringham. Most services are provided by Northern Trains who operate the station. Occasional services by TransPennine Express also call at this station. The station is unstaffed and has very limited facilities. There is a shelter on each platform, with a telephone and a help point for contact with Customer Services and British Transport Police on Platform 1 (eastbound); train running information is also provided by timetable posters on each side. Platform 2 (westbound) is accessible only by a footbridge with 50 steps.The station is on the west bank of the River Trent, to the west of the combined road-and-rail King George V Bridge, which was a lifting bridge until the late 1950s.

Gunness (or Gunhouse) is a village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 3 miles (5 km) west from Scunthorpe, and on the east bank of the River Trent. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 2,462.On the Doncaster Road is the Grade II listed Rectory and Stable Block, built by James Fowler of Louth in 1864–66.

Gunhouse Wharf railway station was a goods station in Gunness, Lincolnshire. It was built by the Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway to serve a small wharf on the River Trent. It left the main line at Gunhouse Junction, the main line making an end-on junction with the South Yorkshire Railway's line to Doncaster which had been extended over the River Trent by means of Keadby Swing Bridge.

Keadby Bridge, more formally known as the King George V Bridge, crosses the River Trent near Althorpe and Keadby in Lincolnshire, England. It was designed by Alfred Charles Gardner FRSE MIME.

Althorpe is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Keadby with Althorpe, in the North Lincolnshire district, in the ceremonial county of Lincolnshire, England. It is four miles (6 km) west of Scunthorpe and the same distance south-east of Crowle, on the A18 road.

St John the Baptist's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Burringham, Lincolnshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church stands at the south end of the village, on the east bank of the River Trent.

Burringham is a village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 737. The village is situated on the B1450 on the east bank of the River Trent approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) south from Gunness. Burringham's Grade II listed Anglican church is dedicated to St John the Baptist. It was designed by Samuel Sanders Teulon in 1856–67.The village primary school is halfway between Gunness and Burringham. The public house, Take a Gander, is on the High Street. Burringham used to share the Gunness and Burringham railway station.

Amcotts is a village and civil parish in the North Lincolnshire district of Lincolnshire, England, and on the Isle of Axholme. The village is situated north-west from Scunthorpe, and on the west bank of the River Trent facing Flixborough on the east bank. The 2001 Census recorded a population of 219 for the parish, increasing to 262 at the 2011 census.

Pauper’s Drain is a small tributary of the River Trent in North Lincolnshire, England, and is 9 km (6 miles) long.It has a catchment area of 42 square kilometres(16 square miles) of flat arable, agricultural land to the east of the Isle of Axholme. The start of the drain is the outflow of the Crowle sewage treatment works; from there it flows in an eastwardly direction, south of the village of Eastoft before it reaches the Paupers pumping station at the side of the tidal River Trent, to the north of Amcotts. The station contains three pumps, which are used to maintain water levels in the drain by discharging water into the Trent as required. A sluice adjacent to the pumping station, also allows water to discharge by gravity during periods of tidal low water.The watercourse is essential for the land drainage of this low-lying area, which is the responsibility of the Isle of Axholme & North Nottinghamshire Water Level Management Board, the successor body to the Isle of Axholme Internal Drainage Board. The Board undertakes maintenance tasks such as annual mowing and rodding of the drain.The name is thought to be derived from the fact that it was constructed by labourers on the poor rate (or paupers). It was also considered to have been constructed prior to the 17th century drainage works of Vermuyden in the area.
