Mount Airy (Leesville, Virginia)

Leesville Lake is a reservoir in Virginia used for hydroelectric power generation in conjunction with Smith Mountain Lake as a pump storage project. It is located southeast of Roanoke, and southwest of Lynchburg. Smaller and lower than Smith Mountain Lake, Leesville Lake covers 3,270 acres (13.2 km2) and contains 94,900 acre-feet (117,100,000 m3) of water at full pond. The lake is 17 miles (27 km) long with around 110 miles (180 km) of shoreline. The reservoir lies in a broad valley nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of rural southwestern Virginia of the Appalachian chain. Before the lake's creation, farming and logging were the primary industries.

Motley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, United States. It was named for a notable Virginia family in colonial times, the Motleys, two of whom, Joseph and his son David James Motley, fought in the American Revolution. The population as of the 2010 Census was 1,015 and was 825 at the 2020 census.

Bourassa State Forest is a 288-acre (117 ha) state forest located in Bedford County, Virginia, north of Smith Mountain Lake. It is used primarily for timber production, as an outdoor lab, and as a wildlife sanctuary. The forest is adjacent to the Smith Mountain Cooperative Wildlife Management Area.Bourassa State Forest is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Forestry. It is open to the public for horseback riding and hiking; hunting, camping, and motorized vehicles are prohibited. Some uses may require visitors to possess a valid State Forest Use Permit.

Hurt is a town in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,269 at the 2020 census. It is included in the Danville, Virginia metropolitan area.

The school houses both the middle school and high school in the same building, and the enrollment ranges between 600 and 700 students in grades 6–12. Their mascot is named "The Colonel", and their sports teams are named "The Colonels". The school is a member of VHSL and competes with the Group A Dogwood District.

Lynch Station is an unincorporated community in Campbell County, Virginia, United States. It is situated just north of the town of Altavista, focused around Route 626. Although technically in Campbell County, some areas in the southeastern part of neighboring Bedford County use Lynch Station as their address. Lynch Station's elevation is 705 feet (215 meters).

Altavista Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Altavista, Campbell County, Virginia. It encompasses 48 contributing buildings in the central business district of Altavista. Notable buildings include the Altavista Municipal Building (1938), U.S. Post Office (1938), Altavista Presbyterian Church (1925), Central Baptist Church (1927), Southern Railway station (1936), Ogden-Henderson Building (1909), First National Bank (1917) by Stanhope Johnson (1882–1973), Leggett's department store (1933), and Vista Theater (1936). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
