Mt. Zion Schoolhouse

Stokesville Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned by H. D. Riddleberger of Harrisonburg, VA. It is located in Stokesville Campground in Stokesville near Mount Solon, Virginia (USA). The location is adjacent to the George Washington National Forest. The observatory has one 16-foot-diameter (4.9 m) silo-type room housing a 14-inch Celestron Compustar telescope owned by James Madison University under a powered Ash observatory dome. An adjoining shaped room houses astronomy displays and materials used for instructional classes. The building is surrounded by a circle of 8 powered piers for mounting additional telescopes.

Mount Solon is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States, 22 miles (35 km) southwest of Harrisonburg and 20 miles (32 km) north of Staunton. It is part of the Staunton–Waynesboro Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Moscow is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States, located on State Route 42 about 8 miles (13 km) south of Bridgewater. With only a few residents, it consists of a Brethren church, an elementary school, a cabinet shop, a few houses, and a small store. This is mostly a business area for the Mount Solon area. North River High School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The name was also taken from the Russian city.

North River High School was a historic public school building located at Moscow, Augusta County, Virginia. Built in 1930, it was a brick building consisting of an auditorium/gymnasium as the core of the building with rectangular gabled blocks on either side containing two rooms with the projecting gable ends. It had a steeply pitched gable roof and entrance portico reflecting the Colonial Revival style. Additions were made to the building in 1942 and 1950. Also on the property was a contributing brick agriculture building.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Natural Chimneys, known as the Cyclopean Towers in the 19th century, is a natural rock structure located near Mt. Solon in Augusta County, Virginia in the United States, in the Shenandoah Valley. The formation is a central feature of a regional park owned and operated by Augusta County. The formation includes seven rock "chimneys" that range in height from 65 to 120 feet (20 to 37 m) above ground level. The chimneys are formed from limestone that began to accumulate and harden into stone about 500 million years ago in the Paleozoic Era, when the region was underwater. Over time, enormous upward pressures of magma and widespread geologic upheaval, which created the Appalachian Mountains, combined with erosive forces of water and destroyed weaker layers of stone. Eventually, this created the rock chimneys which can be seen today.The park, located along the North River, has a 145-site campground with a pool, playground, and hiking trails. The park also hosts one of the largest jousting tournaments in the eastern United States. The tournament is held on the third Saturday of August, and has taken place annually since 1821. The tournament includes the historical sport of "running at the ring". Augusta County owns the property and maintains the facility.

Long Glade Farm, also known as Short Glade Farm and Springdale Farm, is a historic plantation house and farm located near Mount Solon, Augusta County, Virginia. The house was built in 1852, and a two-story, three-bay, "I-house" form brick dwelling in the Greek Revival style. It has an original rear ell. The front facade features a reconstructed front porch with Doric order columns and a balustrade. Also on the property are a contributing meat house, former slaves quarters, a corn crib, a bank barn, a pig house, and a family cemetery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Mount Pleasant is a historic home and farm and national historic district located near Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia. The house was built about 1780–1810, and is a two-story, hall-parlor plan limestone structure with a rear ell dating to the mid-19th century. It is reflective of architecture of the Federal era. It has an original one-story brick ell. Also on the property are a contributing barn, corncrib, garage, storage shed, chicken house, the spring house, and an equipment shed. The property also include the ruins of a mill.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Lone Fountain is an unincorporated community located in Augusta County, Virginia, United States. It has a very small population. Its area is 1 square mile (2.6 km2).

Spring Hill is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States.The earliest inhabitant was the Irish sea captain James Patton, whose first home was a log cabin he built in 1741 at Spring Hill, on what is still known as the Patton Farm Road.: 17–18  On 25 October 1746, On 15 January 1754, Patton signed a contract with two Augusta County carpenters to construct a new home for him at Spring Hill: "a solidly-made a one-room log house, twenty feet square, to include...a wooden floor, high ceiling, and spacious loft.": 127 : 8 In 1882, Spring Hill was a thriving village with several stores and two churches. It, like other communities in Augusta County, flourished into the early 1900s. Today, all that is left is a Presbyterian church, some houses, and a few abandoned storefronts. It is part of the Staunton–Waynesboro Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Churchville is a census-designated place (CDP) in the western part of Augusta County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 Census was 194. Churchville is part of the Staunton–Waynesboro Micropolitan Statistical Area. An 1855 gazetteer described the village as a stagecoach stop that contained "2 churches, 2 stores, and 2 schools." Churchville was a famous town during the time of the Civil War. W. Taylor Reveley III, 27th President of the College of William and Mary was born in Churchville. Churchville is a tree-lined community that is home to several churches (currently 4), the Churchville Public Library, part of the Augusta County Library Branch, and Churchville Elementary School (Grades K-5). Hanger Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Hanger Mill, also known as Huff Mill, is a historic grist mill located at Churchville, Augusta County, Virginia. It was built about 1860, and is a 2 1/2-story, limestone and heavy mortise-and-tenon frame building with a metal gable roof and weatherboard siding. It has an attached one-story office structure. The mill operated until 1940, and retains most of its milling machinery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Augusta County is a county in the Shenandoah Valley on the western edge of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. The second-largest county of Virginia by total area, it completely surrounds the independent cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. Its county seat is Staunton, but most of the administrative services have offices in neighboring Verona. The county was created in 1738 from part of Orange County and was named after Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha. It was originally a huge area, but many of its parts were carved out to form other counties and several states until the current borders were finalized in 1790. As of the 2020 census, the county's population was 77,487. Along with Staunton and Waynesboro, it forms the Staunton–Waynesboro, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
