Beringen coal preparation plant

Mijnstadion is a multi-use stadium in Beringen, Belgium. It has been used mostly for football matches as the home ground of K. Beringen-Heusden-Zolder, until the club reached the first division in 2003–04. At this time the club moved to the Fenix Stadion of rival club K.R.C. Genk. After one season at the top level of Belgian football, the club was relegated to the second division and moved back to Mijnstadion. In April 2006 Beringen-Heusden-Zolder went into liquidation. Since then, the stadium is no longer used by any professional football club and is used by young teams of the area. The stadium holds 9,416 people.

Beringen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbeːrɪŋə(n)] ; French: Béringue, French pronunciation: [beʁɛ̃ɡ]; Limburgish: Berringe) is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. The Beringen municipality includes the town of Beringen proper and the old communes of Beverlo, Koersel, and Paal.

The St. Peter in Chains Church (in Dutch: Sint-Pietersbandenkerk) is a church in Neo-Gothic style with a rich Baroque interior located at the Market Square in Beringen, Belgium. It is the parish church of Beringen centre and the decanal church of the deanery of Beringen. The chancel, nave and transept are protected since 1949 and the neo-Gothic parts since 1993.

The Albert Canal (Dutch: Albertkanaal, pronounced [ˈɑl.bərt.kaːˌnaːl]; French: Canal Albert, pronounced [kanal albɛʁ]) is a canal located in northeastern Belgium, which was named for King Albert I of Belgium. The Albert Canal connects Antwerp with Liège, and also the Meuse river with the Scheldt river. It also connects with the Dessel–Turnhout–Schoten Canal, and its total length is 129.5 kilometres (80.5 mi).

Eversel is a village in Heusden that is part of the municipality of Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. It is located in the northwestern corner of the municipality. Eversel is also a Roman Catholic parish established in 1839. The local Roman Catholic church is dedicated to Saint James the Greater (Sint-Jacobus de Meerdere) and was inaugurated on 5 September 1849. The nearby parish house is named Sint-Baaf after Saint Bavo. Historically Eversel is a part of Houweiken that was part of the fiefdom of Vogelzang. Although a part of Heusden, the dialect of Eversel tends to be closer to that of Beringen. It is a part of the Western Limburgish dialects, although linguists are not clear if the dialects in this region and especially the ones around Beringen are rather Brabantian than Limburgish.

Leopoldsburg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈleːjoːpɔltsˌbʏr(ə)x]; French: Bourg-Léopold, French pronunciation: [buʁ leɔpɔl]; Limburgish: Leopolsbörch) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1, 2006, Leopoldsburg had a total population of 14,403. The total area is 22.49 km² (8.68 sq mi) which gives a population density of 640 inhabitants per km² (1,658.7/sq mi). It is situated near the important military base at Beverloo Camp. The municipality consists of the following sub-municipalities: Leopoldsburg proper and Heppen.

Paal (Limburgish: Poël) is a town and borough in the municipality of Beringen, in the Belgian Limburg Campine. Once known as Pael, the town has a long history.The town plays an important role in both the industry and tourism of Beringen. The town has a recreational area, the "Paalse Plas", with ponds, a sailing lake and a golf course. The annual Paal op Stelten music festival attracts 20,000 visitors to the town each August.The industrial area along the A13 motorway houses the facilities of a number of multinational companies. The studio of Radio Benelux, the local radio station for Beringen and surroundings, is located in Paal.

Heusden-Zolder (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɦøːzdə(n) ˈzɔldər]; Limburgish: Heuze-Zolder [ˌɦøːzəˈzɔldəʀ]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg near Hasselt. On 1 January 2006 Heusden-Zolder had a total population of 30,769. The total area is 53.23 km² which gives a population density of 578 inhabitants per km². Heusden-Zolder was the result of the merger on 1 January 1977 of the two former municipalities of Heusden and Zolder, and currently consists of the former Heusden parishes of Heusden centre, Berkenbos and Eversel, and the former Zolder parishes of Zolder centre, Boekt, Viversel, Bolderberg and Lindeman. Heusden-Zolder is home to almost 2,000 immigrants from all over the world. This is due to the (now closed) coal mine of Zolder. During the 1960s Belgian coal mines faced an enormous shortage of employees. To address this problem, foreigner labourers were encouraged to immigrate and work near the mines. After their closure (the mine in Zolder was the last one in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg to close in 1992) most of the immigrants chose to stay, which makes Heusden-Zolder a relatively multicultural place.

The Beverloo Camp Railway was a 115 km (71 mi) long 600 mm (1 ft 11+5⁄8 in) gauge railway line in Beverloo Camp near Leopoldsburg in Belgium, which was operated from 1879 to 1940.

Meylandt Castle (Dutch: Kasteel Meylandt) is a country house, on the site of an earlier castle, in Heusden in the municipality of Heusden-Zolder, province of Limburg, Belgium. Although the site has been in use since the 1380s at the latest, the present building was constructed in 1907, replacing an earlier house of 1842.

Zolder is a village in/of boekt that is part of the Heusden-Zolder municipality of the Limburg province in the Flemish Community of Belgium. The village has its own village council. Boekt has a large parking lot, called Zolder centre.

Kwaadmechelen is a village in the Ham municipality of the Limburg province in the Flemish Community of Belgium. Kwaadmechelen was an independent municipality until 1977 when it merged into Ham.
