555 Collins Street

The Federal Coffee Palace was a large, elaborate French Second Empire-style 560-room temperance hotel in the city centre of Melbourne, built between 1886 and 1888 at the height of the city's land boom, and demolished c. 1972–73. Located on the corner of Collins and King streets, near Spencer Street station (the address is now 555 Collins Street), it is prominent in lists of the buildings Melburnians most regret having lost. The Federal Coffee Palace was by far the largest and grandest product of the late 19th century temperance movement in the Southern Hemisphere. The Age wrote that the £150,000 hotel was one of "Australia's most splendid" buildings; in fact, it was "one of the largest and most opulent hotels in the world". With seven main floors and two more in the corner tower, it was the most massive of the rash of large tall buildings built in the central city in the 1880s boom. The height to the top of the corner dome was 165 ft (50 m), its height to roof of 48m exceeded the 43m Fink's Building completed the previous year making it briefly Melbourne and Australia's tallest building until completion of the Australian Building in mid 1890, which measured 53m to the top of its corner spire.

568 Collins Street is a mixed–use skyscraper in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.The building was first proposed in 2011 and later approved by then-Planning Minister Matthew Guy in early 2012. The skyscraper reaches 224 metres in height– making it one of the tallest buildings in Melbourne. The tower includes 588 residential apartments spanning across 69 levels, as well as offices.Construction on the $161 million project commenced in mid-2012 and was completed in September 2015. At the time of its completion, 568 Collins Street became the equal 11th–tallest building in Melbourne to roof and equal 25th–tallest overall.

Melbourne City School was an independent, co-educational Prep to Year 9 school located in the Melbourne Central Business District on King Street. Melbourne City School was founded in 2010 as an initiative of Eltham College of Education, but closed at the end of 2012 due to low enrolments.

It was the tallest office building in the Southern Hemisphere when it was constructed. The Rialto featured Melbourne's first skyscraper public observation deck, which operated between 1994 and 31 December 2009. It was also the location of Melbourne's first Tower running event.

67 Spencer Street is the former head offices of the Victorian Railways, on Spencer Street, Melbourne, Australia. Today it is used as a hotel and apartments. The Renaissance Revival style building is one of the major Victorian era buildings in Melbourne and listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

The Flinders Street Viaduct is a railway bridge in Melbourne, Australia. Made up of six tracks of varying ages, it links Flinders Street station to Southern Cross station and forms the main link between the eastern and western parts of the Victorian rail network. The viaduct takes a twisted path, passing behind the former Victorian Railways headquarters at 67 Spencer Street, taking a sharp 90 degree turn east from Spencer Street, swinging southward around the back of the former Fish Market (now Northbank Place and Rebecca Walk) beside Batman Park, then north-east to avoid the swinging basin on the Yarra River, then crossing over the Banana Alley Vaults before entering Flinders Street.

Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is a Southern Ocean and Antarctic aquarium in central Melbourne, Australia. It is located on the banks of the Yarra River beside and under the Flinders Street Viaduct and the King Street Bridge. The attraction is a Sea Life Centre owned by Merlin Entertainments.

Bourke Place is a 224-metre (735 ft) skyscraper situated at 600 Bourke Street, Melbourne central business district, Victoria, Australia. It is the equal 11th tallest building in Melbourne and the 25th tallest building in Australia. It was completed in 1991. Designed by the architectural firm Godfrey & Spowers, it is a modernist building. It previously served as the headquarters for BHP, and the company's sign on the outside of the structure was the highest in the country. BHP has since moved to a new building across the city to 171 Collins Street. The building's most obvious feature on the skyline is its sloped roof, which hides various communications equipment. The structure's facade is 170,000 square metres (1,800,000 sq ft) of laminated glass. In 2019 the building's ground floor foyer has undergone refurbishment under the guidance of 3XN in collaboration with NH Architecture with construction work carried out by Probuild. Bourke Place is home to numerous law firms, including King & Wood Mallesons, which occupies the top eleven floors, Sparke Helmore Lawyers, Gadens, and Lander & Rogers. Other tenants include M&K Lawyers, Berkshire Hathaway, Scottish Pacific and Interpro.

AMP Square (527–535 Bourke Street) is a skyscraper situated in Melbourne, Australia, located on the corner of Bourke and Williams Streets in the Melbourne CBD. Designed by US firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill with local firm Bates Smart McCutcheon, and completed in 1969, it was briefly the tallest in the city, and is noted for its use of solid sculpted forms bringing a sense of monumentality to tall buildings.

Batman Park is an urban park, located on the northern bank of the Yarra River in central Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Batman Park is a small open grassed space with paths and planted Eucalyptus trees bordered by Spencer Street at the west, Flinders Street Viaduct at the north and King Street to the east. The park was established in 1982 through the conversion of a disused freight train rail yard and was named after one of the founders of Melbourne, John Batman with historical associations as a landing place of the Schooner Rebecca and nearby settlement at Batman's Hill. In 1997 Batman Park was effectively split in half with the section east of King Street rebranded as Enterprize Park. Much of the land on the new park was reclaimed to recreate a historical 1850s turning basin and timber wharf with sculptures by Bruce Armstrong and Geoffrey Bartlett recalling the site's maritime history. Enterprize park also became the site of the Melbourne Aquarium.

Parks Victoria was established in December 1996 as a statutory authority, reporting to the Victorian Minister for Environment and Climate Change. The Parks Victoria Act 2018 updates the previous act, Parks Victoria Act 1998. Under the new Act Parks Victoria is responsible for managing over '...4 million hectares including 3,000 land and marine parks and reserves making up 18 per cent of Victoria’s landmass, 75 per cent of Victoria’s wetlands and 70 per cent of Victoria’s coastline'.
