The Gainesville Mall was the first enclosed shopping mall in Gainesville, Florida. It was located on the northwest corner of the intersection of NW 13th Street (US 441) and NW 23rd Avenue and operated from Fall 1967 to 1993.The Gainesville Mall closed permanently in 1993 after years of decline and was initially replaced with a Kmart. The Kmart was demolished in 2004 and replaced by a Lowe's that opened in 2006 and still resides there.

Gainesville High School (GHS) is a high school in Gainesville, Florida, United States. There were 1,890 students attending it in 2015. The current principal is Daniel Ferguson, who joined the GHS staff in July 2022.

The A. Quinn Jones Museum and Cultural Center is a museum in Gainesville, Florida. The museum preserves the legacy of Allen Quin Jones (1893–1994), a local educator who dedicated his life to educating African-Americans.

Epworth Hall is a historic building in Gainesville, Florida, United States. It is notable as one of the oldest surviving buildings associated with the University of Florida, though it is no longer part of the university's campus. It was erected in 1884 and is located at 419 Northeast 1st Street in downtown Gainesville. Now part of the First United Methodist Church, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on July 25, 1973.

The Maj. James B. Bailey House (also known as Rest Haven) is a historic home in Gainesville, Florida, United States. It is located at 1121 Northwest 6th Street. In 1972, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.It was built by Major James B. Bailey, early settler in the area, starting perhaps around 1848. Bailey, who owned a large area of land within Gainesville, seems likely to have been a force for the move of Alachua County's seat from Newnansville to Gainesville. The homestead house "remains today as an excellent example of early plantation architecture and the home of one of Gainesville's most important pioneers."The house was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey.

Lincoln High School was a public high school for African American students in Gainesville, Florida during the segregation era. It replaced the Union Academy, founded with support from the Freedmen's Bureau in 1867. Lincoln High School was built in 1923 at Northwest 7th Avenue. When it was first constructed it only served grades 1–11, but the principal A. Quinn Jones campaigned for it to serve through grade 12 so students could graduate with diplomas and continue on to attend college or universities. In 1926, Jones succeeded in persuading the county board, and Lincoln High School became the second fully accredited African-American High School in the state of Florida. The A. Quinn Jones House is preserved as a museum honoring his legacy. A new school was built for Lincoln High School in 1956 in response to the Supreme Court of the United States decision in the case of Brown v. Board of Education calling for an end to segregation. Instead of integrating the county built an "equal" school for blacks at SE 12 Street, what is now Lincoln Middle School. The original 1923 Lincoln High School building is now the A. Quinn Jones Center.

The Old WRUF Radio Station (later the University of Florida Police Department headquarters) was a historic site in Gainesville, Florida, United States. It was located on the University of Florida campus (on the southeast corner of Museum Road and Newell Drive). On September 21, 1989, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The building was demolished in 2021 to make way for a larger, more modern UF Public Safety Building. In lieu of demolition, an option to move the Old WRUF Radio Station a few hundred feet away was considered, but the cost to perform the move was estimated to be about $300,000. Construction on the UF Public Safety Building began in April 2021.

Alachua County ( ə-LATCH-oo-ə) is a county in the north central portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 278,468. The county seat is Gainesville, the home of the University of Florida since 1906, when the campus opened with 106 students. Alachua County is part of the Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county is known for its diverse culture, local music, and artisans. Much of its economy revolves around the university, which had nearly 55,000 students in the fall of 2016.

Cooperative Living Organization (CLO), formerly Collegiate Living Organization, in Gainesville, Florida, is one of the oldest continuously operating independent student-governed cooperative living organizations in the United States. The 89-year-old organization has provided over 2000 financially disadvantaged students an opportunity for a University of Florida education while providing experience in independent and socially responsible living by pooled resources and self-governance.

The Gainesville Police Department is responsible for law enforcement within the city limits of Gainesville, Florida. This includes operations, investigations, crime prevention, victim outreach, community outreach, and youth outreach.

Keene-Flint Hall (formerly known as Science Hall and Flint Hall) is a historic site in Gainesville, Florida, United States. It is located in the northeastern section of the University of Florida. On June 27, 1979, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Keene-Flint Hall houses the University of Florida's History Department.

Murphree Hall is a historic student residence building located in the Murphree Area on the northern edge of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida. It was designed by architect Rudolph Weaver in the Collegiate Gothic style and completed in 1939. The building was named for Albert A. Murphree, the university's second president, who served from 1909 to 1927. Major renovations, which included adding air conditioning, were completed in 2005, and the hall was rededicated and open for that fall semester.Murphree Hall is a contributing property in the University of Florida Campus Historic District which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 20, 1989.
