Dorsten

In the siege of Dorsten (German: Belagerung von Dorsten), an Imperial force under Melchior von Hatzfeldt besieged the Hessian garrison in the town of Dorsten from 16 July 1641 to 19 September 1641 during the Thirty Years' War. The garrison capitulated on 18 September 1641 and moved out of the town the following day. According to a judgement by the Vienna Supreme Court (Wiener Hofgericht), Hesse-Cassel had to cede Upper Hesse, which included the University of Marburg, to Hesse-Darmstadt. In return for this substantial loss, in the Treaty of Werben on 22 August 1631, King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden promised to grant Hesse-Cassel various territories in Westphalia including parts of the Prince-Bishopric of Münster (Hochstift Münster) and the Vest Recklinghausen (governed by the Electorate of Cologne), if he were victorious in the Thirty Years' War. On 9 February 1633, Hesse-Cassel captured Dorsten without resistance from the Electorate of Cologne. In the following years, it was turned into the strongest fortress in the region by the Hessian Colonel Dalwig and by Johann Adriansch. A first attempt to recapture it by Johann von Götz failed in 1636.

Dorsten station is the central station in the town of Dorsten in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located east of the town centre and the line is orientated north-south.

Star Trek: Operation Enterprise is a steel launched roller coaster at Movie Park Germany in Bottrop, Germany. The ride was manufactured by German company Mack Rides and opened to guests on 24 May 2017; however, its official opening ceremony took place on 14 June 2017.

Van Helsing's Factory is a steel enclosed roller coaster at the Movie Park Germany amusement park in Bottrop, Germany. The Gerstlauer dark ride opened in June 2011 as a replacement for the defunct Gremlin Invasion ride.

The Wesel–Datteln Canal (German: Wesel-Datteln-Kanal) is a 60-kilometre (37 mi) long canal in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It runs along the northern edge of the Ruhr Area, from the Rhine near Wesel (51°38′21″N 6°36′25″E) to the Dortmund-Ems Canal near Datteln (51°39′45″N 7°21′58″E). It forms an important transport connection between the Lower Rhine and northern and eastern Germany, together with the parallel Rhine-Herne Canal. Construction of the Wesel–Datteln Canal was started in 1915, and the canal was opened in 1930 (1930). It runs parallel to the river Lippe. The canal has six locks, at Friedrichsfeld, Hünxe, Dorsten, Flaesheim, Ahsen and Datteln. The main ports along the canal are in Marl (Chemiepark Marl and Auguste-Victoria).

Movie Park Germany is a theme park in Bottrop-Kirchhellen in western Germany, 50 kilometres (30 mi) north of Düsseldorf, with an area of 40 hectares (100 acres). It consists of 7 areas based on movies and TV series. Nearby the park are several film studios.

Schloss Beck (Beck Castle) is a Baroque castle in Bottrop, Germany, planned and built as a “maison de plaisance” between 1766 and 1777 by Johann Conrad Schlaun. It is currently run as an amusement park.

Scholven Power Station is a coal-fired power plant in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. With an installed capacity of 2,126 megawatts, it is one of the largest power stations in Europe. It is owned by Uniper.

Gladbeck West station is located in the German city of Gladbeck in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is on the Oberhausen-Osterfeld Süd–Hamm line and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. The station was opened 1 May 1905 by the Prussian state railways.It is served by Regional-Express service RE 14: Emscher-Münsterland-Express (Essen–Bottrop-Gladbeck-Dorsten), train part 1 Borken (Westf) / train part 2 Coesfeld (Westf) and Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 9 (Recklinghausen / Haltern–Wuppertal / Hagen). S 9 separation station Recklinghausen or GE-Buer, Marl, Haltern am See It is also served by five bus routes: SB36, 253, 254 and 258 (all operated by Vestische Straßenbahnen every 20/30 minutes) and 188 (operated by Busverkehr Rheinland every 60 minutes).

The Gemeinschaftsgrundschule Im Brömm is a primary school in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The school was built in 1913 as Katholische Volksschule – Josefschule. After having been destroyed in World War II the school was rebuilt in the 1950s. In 1963 the school got a gym and an indoor pool. On the schoolyard was built a mini-soccerfield in the year 2008.

Lembeck Castle, located in the urban area of Dorsten on the border of the northern Ruhr region and the southern Münsterland, is a moated castle. It is located in the Hohe Mark Nature Park and surrounded by the "Hagen" and "Kippheide" forests to the south of the Dorsten district of Lembeck in the northwest of the Recklinghausen region. The name "Lembeck" for the castle is derived from Low German. The root word "beke" signifies "flowing water" or "brook". The determiner indicates “slimy” and is related to "loam" and "glue" linguistically. Consequently, Lembeck can be translated as Lehmbach, indicating its previous location in a swamp and bog region.
