Chariho High School is a public high school located in the rural village of Wood River Junction, Rhode Island, in the town of Richmond. It is part of the Chariho Regional School District, serving the towns of Charlestown, Richmond, and Hopkinton. The name Chariho is derived from the first syllable of the three towns' names.

Alton is a small village of about 250 residents within the town of Richmond, Rhode Island. It is located about one hour south of Providence, the state's capital. The village is primarily residential, with no retail stores. Alton is located at a crossing of the Wood River and is 5 miles from the Pawcatuck River.

The Wood River is a river in the U.S. states of Connecticut and Rhode Island. It flows approximately 25 miles (40 km) and is a major tributary of the Pawcatuck River. There are 8 dams along the river's length.

The Joseph Jeffrey House is an historic house on Old Mill Road in Charlestown, Rhode Island. It is located on the east side of Old Mill Road, just south of Saw Mill Pond and Sawmill Brook, on a predominantly wooded 9.5-acre (3.8 ha) lot. The main house is a 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure with a gambrel roof and central chimney, with a small gable-roof ell to the northeast. The oldest portion of the main block appears to be the easterly side, which rests on an old stone foundation, and exhibits construction methods typical of the second quarter of the 18th century. The house was probably built by Joseph Jeffrey, a Narragansett, on land granted to him by the tribe, whose advisory council he sat on.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Woodville is a small village in the towns of Richmond and Hopkinton in the U.S. state of Rhode Island.

The Historic Village of the Narragansetts in Charlestown is an historic district in Charlestown, Rhode Island encompassing what were for nearly two centuries the reservation lands of the Narragansett people. The district covers 5,600 acres (23 km2) and is bounded by Route 112 on the east, U.S. Route 1 on the south, King's Factory Road (Bureau of Indian Affairs Route 411) on the west, and Route 91 on the north. These lands served as the Narragansett reservation between 1709 and 1880, when the tribe sold the land to the state and was formally detribalized. Because of this long period of Native occupation, the area is archaeologically important, containing both historic and prehistoric artifacts. The Narragansetts have since received federal recognition. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Carolina is a village that straddles the border of the towns of Charlestown and Richmond on the Pawcatuck River in Washington County, Rhode Island. Rhode Island Route 112 passes through the village. Carolina is identified as a census-designated place, with a population of 970 at the 2010 census.

The Narragansett people are an Algonquian American Indian tribe from Rhode Island. Today, Narragansett people are enrolled in the federally recognized Narragansett Indian Tribe. They gained federal recognition in 1983. The tribe was nearly landless for most of the 20th century but acquired land in 1991 in their lawsuit Carcieri v. Salazar, and they petitioned the Department of the Interior to take the land into trust on their behalf. This would have made the newly acquired land to be officially recognized as part of the Narragansett Indian reservation, taking it out from under Rhode Island's legal authority. In 2009, the United States Supreme Court ruled against the request, declaring that tribes which had achieved federal recognition since the 1934 Indian Reorganization Act did not have standing to have newly acquired lands taken into federal trust and removed from state control.

Chariho is a regional school district located in southern Rhode Island shared by three adjacent towns; Charlestown, Richmond, and Hopkinton. The name Chariho is a portmanteau derived by taking the first two letters from each town name and combining them together. The district operates four elementary schools, two of which are located in Hopkinton, in the villages of Ashaway and Hope Valley, one in Charlestown, and one in Richmond. The Chariho campus located in the Richmond village of Wood River Junction houses the Middle and High Schools, as well as the Chariho Career And Technical Center. Chariho Regional Junior-Senior High School (its full name) opened in the fall of 1960; prior to that year, students attended schools in nearby South Kingstown or Westerly. The first class to attend the school for all six grades was the class of 1966. That same year, Chariho won the Rhode Island Interscholastic League statewide baseball championship. Enrollment of the High School is around 1200 students including 430 in the Career and Technical school (as of 2012). Students from surrounding districts can attend the Chariho Career And Technical Center. The Chariho Act is the legislation governing the regional school district. Each town contributes taxes proportionally based on student enrollment. The name Chariho is also often used to describe the region including its three towns, as a number of local organizations and businesses have used the name.

Burdickville is a village and former mill town located within the town of Hopkinton in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. The village is located in the southeastern part of town and is near the border with Charlestown at the Pawcatuck River. Burdickville Road runs through it. It is also a point on the Pawcatuck River where hand-carried boats can be launched. A waterflow monitoring station was here but is not currently active.The Burdickville Dam was located here, but is now in ruins.The first gristmill was built in the community, previously known as Brown's Ridge, in the late 18th century. A cotton mill was built on the river's west bank around 1848 by Stephen and William Burdick, which is where the village gets its name. A 1929 government report reported the mill buildings to be "dilapidated and beyond repair." A 1931 profile of the village in The Providence Journal described the former mill town as now reduced to only one year-round resident, a grandson of one of the Burdicks.

The Albert S. Potter Octagon House (also known simply as the Octagon House) is an historic octagonal house located at 4 Carolina Main Street (Rhode Island Route 112) on the corner of Shannock Hill Road in the village of Carolina in Richmond, Rhode Island. It was built by watchmaker Albert S. Potter in 1857. Potter reportedly did his watchmaking in the octagonal cupola atop the two-story house. The building is now covered with asbestos siding and is owned by the Carolina Preservation and Band Society. The Albert S. Potter Octagon House is a contributing property in the Carolina Village Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 1974.

Black Farm, also known as the Isaac Collins Farm, is a historic farm in Hopkinton, Rhode Island bounded by Woodville Alton Road (Rhode Island Route 112) and Wood Road. The 264-acre (107 ha) plot was developed by John Collins beginning in 1710 and saw agricultural use for over 200 years. The main house dates to the late 18th century, and is a 1-1/2 story gambrel-roofed post-and-beam structure. Outbuildings include 19th century barns, a corn crib, and a guest cottage added in the 1930s. Set some distance off from this complex is the foundational remains of what was probably an ice house; it consists of granite blocks and is eight feet high.The state of Rhode Island purchased the farm in 1991. A lot containing the farmstead complex was sold into private hands with a preservation easement, and the rest of the farm property is now conservation land. The farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
