Topton, North Carolina

The Charles Noden George House is a historic house in rural Graham County, North Carolina. It is located on the south side of a private road, 0.4 miles (0.64 km) west of SR 1200 and 1 mile (1.6 km) north of United States Route 129, near Tulula Creek. It is a single-pen log structure built c. 1853, which faces east at the top of a 20-acre (8.1 ha) pasture and overgrown orchard. The logs are poplar, and are joined by half-dovetail notches. A fieldstone chimney rises from the uphill side of the structure, and there is a kitchen ell and a wraparound porch on the south and west sides, added c. 1900. It was built by a veteran of the War of 1812 during the second major wave of development in western North Carolina.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Nantahala Township () is located in North Carolina, United States in the part of Macon County which is west of Wayah Gap. It has a population of 1,711. "Nantahala" is a Cherokee word which means "The sun between them". The Cherokee are credited for finding this region in North Carolina. They called their "town" Aquone. This area is now covered with water and known as Nantahala Lake. There is plenty of evidence to prove that other people lived in this area long before the Cherokee were here. There are many Indian villages in the Aquone area, and other similar evidence of other villages throughout the entire Nantahala community. The town of Aquone vanished and was rediscovered by a Spanish Conquistador Hernando de Soto in 1540 and then again by William Bartram in the 18th century.Nantahala receives a majority of its revenue from tourism.

The Glen Choga Lodge is a historic lodge in rural Macon County, North Carolina. It is located in a clearing on the south side of Little Choga Road (North Carolina Route 1402), in Nantahala National Forest. The lodge is a large U-shaped two-story log structure with a metal roof. The Glen Choga Lodge is the only saddle notched Adirondack-style lodge made of Wormy Chesnut Logs known to still exist. It was built in 1934–35, at a time when Little Choga Road was a major route between Franklin and Murphy, North Carolina. The builders were Alexander Breheurs Steuart and his wife Margaret Willis Hays; they operated the lodge as a summer vacation destination until 1941 and the United States entry into World War II. It did not reopen for commercial use after the war, and has been converted into a private summer residence.

Granny Squirrel Branch is a 1.09 mi (1.75 km) long 1st order tributary to Harris Creek in Cherokee County, North Carolina. Granny Squirrel Branch is the only stream of this name in the United States and is a tributary to Harris Creek. According to tradition, "Granny Squirrel" was originally the name of an elderly Native American Indian woman who lived in the area.

Nantahala School is a small K–12 school in Topton, North Carolina. It is located in a remote part of Macon County amidst the Nantahala National Forest. The school has about 100 students. It is one of the state's few remaining K–12 schools. The school is located at 213 Winding Stairs Road. It has an 11 percent minority enrollment and 61 percent of students are economically disadvantaged. The school has volleyball, cross country, basketball, and golf teams. Alumni include Eric Rudolph who dropped out of the school. The school is part of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and its teams compete as the Nantahala Hawks.

Hewitt is an unincorporated community in Swain County, North Carolina, United States. Hewitt is located along US 74, West of Bryson City and East of Topton. A talc and limestone mine is located in Hewitt.

Walker's Inn is a historic building in rural Cherokee County, North Carolina. It is located at the northeast corner of the junction of SR 1505 and SR 1383 near Andrews. The house, appearing as a two-story five-bay frame house, was apparently built in stages, beginning c. 1844, after William Walker acquired the land on which it stands. The three rightmost bays of the house are a log structure, while the two on the left are a frame structure. The logs are partially exposed on the front, while most of the house is sheathed in board-and-batten siding. Windows are irregularly placed on the main facade. Long known as an inn, it sits along what was in the 19th century the major route between Franklin and Murphy. Frederick Law Olmsted stayed at the inn during his travels in the area in the late 19th century.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Robbinsville High School is a public, co-educational secondary school located in Robbinsville, North Carolina. It is the only high school in the Graham County Schools system.

The Graham County Courthouse is located at 12 North Main Street in Robbinsville, the county seat of Graham County, North Carolina. The current courthouse is a Classical Revival structure designed by Barber and McMurry of Knoxville, Tennessee, and completed in 1942; it is the third courthouse to stand on the property. The T-shaped building is fashioned from stone reportedly gathered in the Mill Creek area about 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Robbinsville. The building occupies a prominent location in the center of Robbinsville; it is one of three North Carolina courthouses built with funds from the Depression-era Works Progress Administration.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Wesser Bald is a summit located in Macon County, North Carolina, near the community of Wesser. A wooden fire tower at the summit provides hikers with unimpeded views of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and also the Nantahala Mountains. The Appalachian Trail traverses the summit from roughly north to south with the Nantahala Outdoor Center lying to the north within the Nantahala Gorge and Tellico gap just to the south. Tellico gap has unimproved road access. The climb from Tellico Gap takes an average of 20 minutes. Also, a third route, the blue trail, departs from the end of Wesser Creek Road and follows Wesser Creek up to a point just south of the summit to a fork with the Appalachian Trail. The summit is located at 4,627 ft (1,410 m). and is within Nantahala National Forest. A map detailing the highway routes to access Tellico Gap is available at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Observable landforms include Wayah Bald, the Nantahala Gorge, and Clingmans Dome among others. The Wesser Fire Tower provides 360 degree views of the Smokies in a short 1.5 mile hike from Tellico Gap on the Appalachian Trail, with an elevation gain of about 767 feet. The Fire Tower was originally reported as destroyed during the forest fires which ravaged the Nantahala Forest in November, 2016 but it was later learned that it survived.
