El Pelayo

El Bujeo is a village in the municipality of Tarifa in the Province of Cadiz in southeastern Spain, It is located about 9 miles (14 km) southwest of Algeciras, along the main road to the southern tip of Spain at Tarifa, which is 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) away, and it lies between the villages of El Pelayo and El Cuartón. According to the National Statistics Institute, El Bujeo had 212 inhabitants in 2010. It lies within the Parque Natural del Estrecho, and woodland in the vicinity is said to offer a " diverse assemblage of breeding passerines."

The Río de la Miel is a short river in the south of Spain, emptying into the Bay of Gibraltar at Algeciras. It falls over a distance of 350 metres including some waterfalls and working water mills. As the port of Algeciras expanded, docks on the river became marooned inland, and within the town much of the river is now culverted. The literal translation of the name is the honey river.

The Fort de El Tolmo (Spanish: Fuerte de El Tolmo) was a fort located in Algeciras, Spain. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1985. Only large ruins remain.

Polígono Industrial Cortijo Real is an industrial estate in the southwestern suburbs of Algeciras, southeastern Spain. Nico Reparaciones Navales SA, Mediterráneo SA, Recomar SA, Lozano, Ivesur, MD Nautica SL, Talleres Barberans, Sofrial, Autransa, Algesonitc, and Sea Land Traders International all have warehouses here. Several of the firms based in Polígono manufacture containers for shipment to the nearby Port of Algeciras, such as Mediterráneo SA, also known as Comesa (Containers del Mediterraneo) and are generally mechanical firms.

The Aqueduct of Algeciras (Spanish: Acueducto de Algeciras) is one of the most important buildings in Algeciras, Spain. Numerous textbooks, dictionaries and guidebooks cite this building as Arabic or Roman, but it was built in the eighteenth century.

Torre del Arroyo del Lobo is a ruined medieval defensive tower near Algeciras, Spain. It is located in the cove of Getares, and monitored the stretch of coast from Punta Carnero to Punta de San García between the cities of Algeciras and Tarifa as part of the defensive system of the Strait of Gibraltar in the Middle Ages. The tower is situated as 76.3 meters above sea level and 935 meters from the coast. Río Pícaro flows nearby. The building is rectangular with about 8 feet at maximum length. It must have reached 13 meters high, but today, in its ruined state, does not exceed six meters. Two floors and the basement are accessible through stairs. It became protected in 1985 as a Bien de Interés Cultural site.

Río Pícaro is a river of southeastern Andalusia, Spain. Originating in the Sierra del Bujeo /Sierra del Algarrobo, it flows for 7.7 kilometres (4.8 mi) into the Bay of Algeciras, not far from Algeciras. The terrain of the river course is rugged; Pícaro is Spanish for rogue.

The Torre del Fraile (Tower Canutos or Friar Tower) is one of a set of military watchtowers built around the South and East coast of Spain to keep an eye on passing shipping and Barbary pirates. The watchtowers were in sight of one another and it was therefore possible to get a signal to Gibraltar from the watchtower in Tarifa. The tower was designed by Luis Bravo and Juan Pedro Laguna in 1588. The tower is about 240 metres back from the sea and Cala Arenas and 120 metres above it. The tower is over six metres in diameter and was over thirteen metres high until the top collapsed in 2006 with the loss of a window and the upper staircase. The tower's entrance was over five metres in the air and this led onto a floor. From this the soldiers could climb to the top where space was reserved for firewood for signalling.

The ruins of Fuerte de San Diego (Spanish: Fuerte de San Diego) are the remains of a castle located in Algeciras, Spain. The castle was built in 1730 following the Capture of Gibraltar in 1704.

The siege of Algeciras (1369) was undertaken during the period of the Reconquest of Spain by Muhammad V, the Emir of Granada to reclaim the city of Al-Hadra Al-Yazirat, called Algeciras by the Christians, in the Kingdom of Castile. The siege lasted just three days, and the sultan was victorious. The Muslims thus regained a major city which had been in Castilian hands since Alfonso XI of Castile took it from the Moroccans after the long 1342–1344 siege. Ten years after the capture of the city, in 1379 the sultan of Granada decided to completely destroy the city to prevent it falling into Christian hands. It was impossible to defend the place at a time when the Muslim kings of the Iberian Peninsula had lost much of military power they enjoyed in earlier centuries.

The siege of Algeciras (1342–1344) was undertaken during the Reconquest of Spain by the Castillian forces of Alfonso XI assisted by the fleets of the Kingdom of Aragon and the Republic of Genoa. The objective was to capture the Muslim city of Al-Jazeera Al-Khadra, called Algeciras by Christians. The city was the capital and the main port of the European territory of the Marinid Empire. The siege lasted for twenty one months. The population of the city, about 30,000 people including civilians and Berber soldiers, suffered from a land and sea blockade that prevented the entry of food into the city. The Emirate of Granada sent an army to relieve the city, but it was defeated beside the Río Palmones. Following this, on 26 March 1344 the city surrendered and was incorporated into the Crown of Castile. This was one of the first military engagements in Europe where gunpowder was used.

Algeciras (Spanish: [alxeˈθiɾas]) is a municipality of Spain belonging to the province of Cádiz, Andalusia. Located in the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula, near the Strait of Gibraltar, it is the largest city on the Bay of Gibraltar (Spanish: Bahía de Algeciras). The Port of Algeciras is one of the largest ports in Europe and the world in three categories: container, cargo and transshipment. The urban area straddles the small Río de la Miel, which is the southernmost river of continental Europe. As of 1 January 2020, the municipality had a registered population of 123,078, second in its province after Jerez de la Frontera and greater than Cádiz city population. It forms part of the comarca of Campo de Gibraltar. The surrounding metro area also includes the municipalities of Los Barrios, La Línea de la Concepción, Castellar de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera, San Roque and Tarifa, with a population of 263,739.
