Ilkeston

Ilkeston was a Municipal Borough in Derbyshire, England from 1887 to 1974. It was formed under the Municipal Corporations Act 1882. The borough was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and combined with the Long Eaton Urban District and part of the South East Derbyshire Rural District to form the new Erewash district.

St Mary's Church, Ilkeston is a Grade II* listed parish church in the Church of England in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Built in the 14th century, it is known as the "Mollis Chapel" because of a stained glass window which shows the rising sun above the cross which was fixed to it by the local saint.

Ilkeston Town Hall is a municipal building in the Market Place, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. The town hall, which currently serves as one of two meeting places of Erewash Borough Council, is a Grade II listed building.

The Erewash Museum is a museum in the town of Ilkeston, Erewash, in Derbyshire, England. The building that houses the museum is named the Dalby House after one of the families who inhabited it, and has served as a school and a private dwelling. The museum opened in the 1980s, and focuses on the history of the Erewash area, with exhibits covering the Second World War, archaeology, and the Stanton Ironworks.

Ilkeston Town railway station was a railway station which served the town of Ilkeston in Derbyshire, England. It was opened in 1847 by the Midland Railway. This station was connected to the Erewash Valley Line by a short branch from Ilkeston Junction, the route of which roughly followed the present Millership Way and which was served by horse-drawn railway carriages for some years.By 1853, three trains were running daily each way between Nottingham and Ilkeston via Long Eaton. However, local newspapers contain many letters of complaint in the 1850s and 1860s regarding the poor standard of waiting rooms and other facilities at the local stations and even about the rudeness of the staff. Some of the Midland Railway's Directors, their General Manager and Engineer visited Ilkeston in 1860 to discuss rail users’ concerns, although little seems to have been accomplished from the visit.The original station, opened on 6 September 1847 and named Ilkeston, was closed on 2 May 1870 but remodelled in response to the arrival of the Great Northern Railway (Great Britain) Derbyshire Extension line through its station later known as Ilkeston North. The station, now named Ilkeston Town, re-opened on 1 July 1879.It carried a shuttle service from Ilkeston Junction which was never particularly popular since the GNR provided a direct main line service. Some services were also provided to Nottingham and Chesterfield From 1882 the former were routed along the Bennerley Junction route to Basford, with six services a day, but they ended at the beginning of the First World War.In the Grouping of all lines (into four main companies) in 1923 the station became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway . The station closed to passengers on 10 July 1950, having been open on a restricted basis since 16 June 1947, and goods operations had ceased by 1960. The tracks were lifted and the footbridge removed. The site is now occupied by a roundabout at the end of Ilkeston's Chalons Way by-pass and a large Tesco supermarket.

Ilkeston Grammar School was a selective co-educational secondary school, admission being dependent on passing the 11-plus examination. It stood on King George Avenue, Ilkeston, in the south east of Derbyshire in the East Midlands of England. The photograph in the infobox shows the original school, now known as the 'King George Building' of Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy, seen from the junction of King George Avenue and Scarborough Avenue, c.2002.

Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy (OIEA) is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located on two sites in Ilkeston in the English county of Derbyshire.OIEA is an amalgamation of two academies operated by the Ormiston Academies Trust. Ormiston Enterprise Academy on Bennerley Avenue was Bennerley Business and Enterprise College, and Bennerley School before that. The Ormiston Ilkeston Academy on King George Avenue was Ilkeston School, and Ilkeston Grammar School before that.Bennerley Business and Enterprise College and Ilkeston School were community schools directly administered by Derbyshire County Council. However OIEA continues to coordinate with Derbyshire County Council for admissions. The school offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils.

The Rutland Recreation Ground is a cricket ground in Ilkeston, Derbyshire (not the historical county of Rutland, as the name may suggest). The Derbyshire first XI played at the ground regularly between 1925 and 1994, with the ground hosting at least one County Championship match - and sometimes as many as three or four – each year until 1978. Ilkeston North railway station was a railway station in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. It was opened by the Great Northern Railway on its Derbyshire Extension in 1878 and closed in 1964.

The Bemrose School is a foundation trust all-through school situated on Uttoxeter New Road, Derby, England, with an age range of pupils from 3 – 19. Opened as a boys' grammar school in 1930, it became a co-educational comprehensive school in 1975. It then became an all-through school with the addition of a primary phase in 2014.

Cotmanhay is a village in Derbyshire, England, and used to be a Viking settlement. Cotmanhay is in the Erewash Borough Council area, north of Ilkeston. Recently a flint implement was found at the edge of Cotmanhay Wood, indicating that the area was inhabited several thousand years BC. The Erewash ward population at the 2011 Census was 4,531.The neighbourhood's two main industries were textiles and coal mining, the latter from 1848 until 1880. The 2019 Multiple deprivation index found the area around Skeavingtons Lane to be the most deprived area in Derbyshire.
