Squak Mountain is the second most westerly mountain of the Issaquah Alps mountain chain in Washington state. It is situated between Cougar Mountain to the west and Tiger Mountain to the east. Interstate 90 parallels the base of the north side of the mountain. Much of the Squak Mountain watershed drains into Lake Sammamish. Most of the mountain is protected by Squak Mountain State Park and the Cougar/Squak and Squak/Tiger Corridors of King County. Squak Mountain actually consists of three major peaks: the Central Peak (Elevation 2024 feet), the West Peak (Elevation 1995 feet), and the Southeast Peak (Elevation 1673 feet). The name "Squak" comes from the Southern Lushootseed placename /sqʷásxʷ/, which is also the source of the name Issaquah Creek and the city of Issaquah.

The Issaquah Alps is the unofficial name for the highlands near Issaquah, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, including Cougar Mountain, Squak Mountain, Tiger Mountain, Taylor Mountain, Rattlesnake Ridge, Rattlesnake Mountain, and Grand Ridge. The term was invented in 1977 by noted nature author Harvey Manning within the pages of his trail guidebook Footsore 1, elevating their status from foothills to "Alps" to advocate preservation. Manning himself lived on a developed section of Cougar Mountain in his "200 meter hut". In 1979, Harvey Manning helped to found the Issaquah Alps Trails Club to care for the trails and to push for public ownership of the Alps. The IATC, which is headquartered in Issaquah (nicknamed "Trailhead City"), conducts frequent guided hikes throughout the Alps. The Issaquah Alps follow Interstate 90 from the shore of Lake Washington almost to the western face of the Cascade Range. The hills are composed of andesitic volcanic rock lying on top of older tightly folded rocks from the coastal plain of the North Cascade subcontinent that docked with Washington about 50 million years ago as the entire continent of North America moved west across the ocean. The Alps were heavily eroded by glaciers in the last ice age. The Vashon lobe of the ice sculpted Rattlesnake Ledge, steeply carved the east and west sides of Squak Mountain, and deposited a large erratic on Cougar Mountain, Fantastic Erratic. Cedar Butte rises abruptly from the moraine between Rattlesnake Ledge and the absolute front of the Cascades. It is sometimes considered part of the Issaquah Alps but it is a relatively young symmetrical volcanic cone and is therefore more closely related to neighboring Mount Washington to the east than the old weathered hills of the majority of the Alps.

Issaquah High School (also known as IHS or Issaquah) is a four-year public secondary school in Issaquah, Washington, United States, a suburb east of Seattle. It is one of three high schools in the Issaquah School District and serves students in grades 9–12 from the central portion of the district. Issaquah High serves the cities of Issaquah, Sammamish, and Bellevue.

Mirrormont is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States, south of Issaquah. The population was 3,858 at the 2020 census. Within the last decade, the area has seen a shift in development as larger homes have been constructed in Cedar Grove, the Highlands at Tiger Mountain and Mirrormont.

Gibson Ek Issaquah High School is a four-year public secondary school in Issaquah, Washington, United States, a suburb east of Seattle. It is one of four high schools in the Issaquah School District. It opened in the fall of 2016 at the previous location of Issaquah Middle School. Gibson Ek is a choice high school that places emphasis on real world experience. Students are allowed to explore career options with the help of volunteer mentors and are required to go to internships on Tuesdays and Thursdays.[1]

Issaquah station, also known as Issaquah Depot or the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway Depot, is a former railway station located in Issaquah, Washington, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1889 as a passenger station and freight warehouse for the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway (SLS&E), serving what was then known as Gilman, Washington (and as Squak Valley until 1888). The town was renamed Issaquah around the turn of the century. Only a few years after the depot's opening, in the 1890s, the SLS&E was taken over by the Northern Pacific Railway.The Issaquah Depot's use as a passenger station ended in the 1940s, and Northern Pacific abandoned the building in 1962.The City of Issaquah purchased the building in 1984. Restoration began in 1985 and was completed in the early 1990s, and the depot now operates as a museum, managed by the non-profit Issaquah Historical Museums (formerly known as the Issaquah Historical Society). The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Tradition Lake is located at the base of Tiger Mountain in Issaquah, Washington. There is a popular interpretive trail around the lake.

The Issaquah Valley Trolley (IVT) is a heritage streetcar line in Issaquah, Washington, United States. It is a project of the Issaquah History Museums (formerly known as the Issaquah Historical Society). The IVT operates from the Issaquah Depot Museum building located at 78 First Ave, NE. The service operated on a trial basis in 2001–02 and has operated on a regular basis, seasonally, since 2012.

The Attack on Squak Valley Chinese laborers took place on September 7, 1885, in Squak Valley (now called Issaquah), Washington Territory, when a group of men fired their guns into several tents where a group of Chinese hop pickers were sleeping. The gunfire resulted in the death of three Chinese men and the wounding of three others. The attackers were later identified and brought to trial, but all were acquitted. The attack was part of a widespread pattern of racially motivated violence against Chinese immigrants in the United States. During the latter half of the 19th century, there were more than 150 documented group attacks against Chinese communities and settlers throughout North America.Some of the details about what happened in Squak Valley are in dispute. There are brief accounts from two of the Chinese victims of the attack and several statements from those who investigated the crime, but otherwise the remaining information comes from statements made by the individuals who were either on trial or awaiting trial for the murder of the Chinese laborers. Several statements made during the trial directly contradicted the accounts made by others.

Issaquah ( ISS-ə-kwah) is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 40,051 at the 2020 census, an increase from 30,434 at the 2010 census. Located in a valley and bisected by Interstate 90, the city is bordered by the Sammamish Plateau to the north and the "Issaquah Alps" to the south. It is home to the headquarters of the multinational retail company Costco. Issaquah is included in the Seattle metropolitan area.

Cedar Hills Regional Landfill is a municipal landfill near Maple Valley, Washington, United States. It is operated by the King County Solid Waste Division and encompasses 920 acres (1.44 sq mi; 3.7 km2) of space near State Route 169. The landfill opened in 1963 and is the county's only active waste facility, serving an estimated 1.4 million people in King County—excluding the cities of Seattle and Milton. Cedar Hills was originally anticipated to be full by 2012, but recent estimates have pushed the date back to 2028, with further expansion planned. The landfill continues to receive 2,500 short tons (2,300,000 kg) of trash per day and has a population of bald eagles and other birds that frequent the area and deposit trash in surrounding neighborhoods.
