Norton Canes High School

Norton Canes is an industrial village, civil parish and ward of Cannock Chase District, in Staffordshire, England. It is situated 3 miles (4.8 km) out of the centre of Cannock. At the 2001 census it had a population of 6,394, and an area of 3,746 acres (15.16 km2) of which 86% is green open space. The population had increased to 7,470 at the 2011 Census. Areas of the village include Little Norton, Little Wyrley, and North Lanes (Lime Lane). The Cannock Chase Coalfield once had 45 collieries within 2 miles (3.2 km) of Norton Canes, employing over 5,800 men, as well as 2 large surface mines; the last pit in the area closed in 1993. Grove Pit was one of these pits, and on 1 October 1930 was the scene of a major tragedy when 14 miners were killed in an explosion there.Another local colliery was owned by the Jerome family, hence Jerome Road now on the site of the pit. This was the family of the author Jerome K. Jerome. Norton Canes borders Chasewater - a collection of man-made lakes formed through old mining pits and a reservoir that feeds the canal system of West Midlands. Chasewater is a popular leisure destination offering facilities for water-skiing and yachting, mountain biking, jogging, walking and bird watching. Norton Canes straddles the UK's first and only Toll Motorway, the M6 Toll which has its northern Toll Plaza and Norton Canes Services is the only services for that motorway. Norton Canes was home to Europe's first drive-through chemist. This is now closed as the chemist has moved into the local health centre located in Brownhills Road.

Norton Junction was a railway junction and goods yard that served multiple coal lines and mineral lines to and from the local collieries and other industrial-related businesses, most notably Pelsall Steelworks and Walsall Wood Colliery.

Norton Lakeside Halt railway station is a heritage railway station on the Chasewater Railway in Staffordshire. It is a simple halt, consisting of a single platform, with no station building and no loops or sidings. It is situated in Chasewater Country Park. To the west is Brownhills West railway station and to the east is Chasewater Heaths railway station.

Heath Hayes Football Club is a football club based in Heath Hayes near Cannock, Staffordshire, England. They are currently members of the Midland League Division One and play at the Coppice Colliery Ground.

Norton Canes Services is a Motorway Service Station on the M6 Toll, in the village of Norton Canes near the towns of Brownhills, Cannock, and Walsall, in Staffordshire, England. It is operated by Roadchef, which has a 25-year lease on the site. The company also uses the site as its head office.

Chasewater Heaths is a heritage railway station on the Chasewater Railway in Burntwood, Staffordshire. It has station building facilities, including a cafe; and a recently rebuilt signal box. To the west is Norton Lakeside Halt and to the east is the terminus, Chasetown (Church Street). The station was constructed in 2000 as part of the extension of the line, that was undertaken following the construction of the M6 Toll Motorway.

The Chasewater Railway is a former colliery railway running round the shores of Chasewater in Staffordshire, England. It is now operated as a heritage railway. The line is approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) in length, contained entirely within Chasewater Country Park. The route, which forms a horse-shoe shape around the lake, passes through heathland, including a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and passes over a 1⁄4-mile (0.40 km) long causeway.

Heath Hayes and Wimblebury are two villages which now form a civil parish in the Cannock Chase District of Staffordshire, England. Given the excellent transport links, being close to the strategic transport network via the M6, M6 Toll and A5, and also easy access to both Hednesford and Cannock train stations, the number of good schools in the area, the recently developed McArthur Glen Designer Outlet West Midlands and an excess of open spaces, being situated directly next to Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the area remains a popular choice for commuters and families and is one of the most affluent areas in the district. Significant recent housing development in Heath Hayes has meant that the status of the area has consequently changed from a small village to a larger village with a great population.Wimblebury however still remains a picturesque small village, and although there have been several new housing developments which now link the village to neighbouring Heath Hayes and also Hednesford, it remains surrounded on three sides by an excess of green spaces / green belt - notably the Old Brickworks nature reserve, the Hednesford hills nature reserve (which is an area of Special Scientific Interest), Wimblebury Mound (known locally as Cannel Mount) and Bleak House farm, with the village bordering the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Brownhills West railway station is a heritage railway station on the Chasewater Railway in Staffordshire. It is the western terminus of the Chasewater Railway. The present facilities were constructed in the early 2000s after the original station, at a different location, stood in the way of the M6 Toll motorway.Development of the railway had been inhibited by the M6 plans since 1980. The cost of the new facilities at Brownhills West were met with £500,000 from the motorway developers, £412,000 from the European Union mainly for the museum building, and a smaller amount from Lichfield District Council. The new route of the railway provided a good view of a new lake and park, another spinoff of the M6 development. The lake had previously been a disused clay pit used to dump coal-mining waste.The station buildings house Chasewater Railway Museum.

Chasewater Watersports Centre is located within the surroundings of Chasewater Country Park and use Chasewater reservoir for watersports. The chasewater ski club offer activities such as Water skiing, Wakeboarding, Slalom skiing and Kneeboarding all year round.

Chasetown (Church Street) is a heritage railway station on the Chasewater Railway. It is the north-eastern terminus of the line and consists of a single platform with a run-round loop. The station was constructed in 2000 as part of the extension of the line, that was undertaken following the construction of the M6 Toll Motorway. There are no station buildings. The station is adjacent to Burntwood Rugby Club, and when the station was first built it was directly accessible from Chasetown, via the Rugby Club. Since the construction of phase 3 of the Burntwood Bypass in 2004, direct access to Chasetown is now via a footbridge. Chasewater Heaths railway station is just to the north, indeed to get to Chasetown by road one has to go past Chasewater Heaths.

Brownhills West is a suburban village of Brownhills in the Walsall Metropolitan Borough and forms part of the border of the West Midlands and Staffordshire. It is an unparished area of Brownhills, lying on the border with Cannock and Burntwood respectively, it is still part of the Walsall borough. It lies next to the suburbs of Newtown, Ogley Hay and Shire Oak of Brownhills. The town is 13 miles Northwest of Birmingham City Centre. Brownhills West homes a council estate known locally as “The West”. Crime in Brownhills West has been an issue over the years with antisocial behaviour & drug offences being rife within the area. It is located on the south bank of Chasewater reservoir, and Brownhills West railway station is the southern terminus of the Chasewater Railway.The main local transport is provided by Bus with routes to Cannock, Walsall & Birmingham being major routes of the area.
