Clarke County is located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 128,671. Its county seat is Athens, with which it is a consolidated city-county. Clarke County is included in the Athens-Clarke County, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Atlanta-Athens-Clarke County-Sandy Springs, GA Combined Statistical Area.

Hill First Baptist Church (organized in 1867) "is the oldest African American church in the Athens, Georgia community". It is a contributing property to the Reese Street Historic District.

The YWCA Building Complex is a set of three historic Young Women's Christian Association buildings in Athens, Georgia. They were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 as a single listing, not a historic district.

The 40 Watt Club is a music venue in Athens, Georgia. Along with CBGB, the Whisky a Go Go, and selected others, it was instrumental in launching American punk rock and new wave music.The 40 Watt Club was the primary performance space for numerous "Athens bands", including Pylon, R.E.M., Love Tractor, Dreams So Real, Guadalcanal Diary, The Primates, Modern Skirts, and others. Its DIY ethos and informality were instrumental in the fostering of punk rock and a "scene" in Athens. In more recent years, the club has been the home-base for such nationally renowned local bands as of Montreal, Reptar, Drive-By Truckers, and The Whigs. The club's owner since 1987 has been Barrie Buck.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co. is an American craft brewery founded in April 2014 by David Stein, Adam Beauchamp, Derek Imes, and Chris Herron in Athens, Georgia. They have become popular for their core beer brands—most notably their Tropicália IPA—as well as a variety of seasonal and specialty releases.

Camak House, at 279 Meigs Street, Athens, Georgia, was built in about 1834 by James Camak and featured in Georgia's early railroad history. An example of Federal architecture, it has a number of features unusual for its period, including a kitchen within the raised basement, and closets. Both main floors have four rooms; the stairwell has a mahogany railing, and moldings and trim were made using a Greek key pattern. After long service as a family home, it was used as a Masonic Lodge before being bought by Coca-Cola Enterprises. In 1975 Camak House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but the building had by then fallen into disrepair. It was restored and used as the offices of a law firm. As of December 2011, it is for sale.

Russell Hall is a co-ed dormitory for first-year students at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. It is named after former governor of Georgia and United States Senator Richard B. Russell Jr., who was a segregationist. This residence hall is located on the corner of Baxter Street and South Finley, on the location of the former Linnentown neighborhood, along with four other freshman, high rise dormitories. The residence hall is co-ed and houses 965 students. Most rooms house two people and is equipped with beds, dressers, desks, and a closet. The dormitory has community restrooms on each hall along with a study lounge and warming kitchen on alternating floors. The Russell Academic Center, located on the first floor, provides a quiet place for students to study as well as meeting rooms. This space is open for all students from 8 AM to 8 PM. There is a laundry facility on the third floor as well as an additional space for students to study and gather, with study rooms, a TV lounge, and a full kitchen with an ice machine. Students can participate in Russell Student Government or they can get involved with other activities through Russell. During the 2017–2018 school year, Russell Hall was closed for renovation and reopened for the 2018–2019 school year.

The Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies is an archive of political and historical primary documents relating to the modern American political system. The Russell Library is one of three Special Collections Libraries located in the Richard B. Russell Building on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens. The address is 300 S. Hull Street. The Russell Library is a department within the University of Georgia Libraries that reports to the University Librarian. The Russell Library is a charter member of the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress.

Athens is a consolidated city-county and college town in the U.S. state of Georgia. Athens lies about 70 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, and is a satellite city of the capital. Metropolitan Athens is a component of the larger Atlanta–Athens–Clarke County–Sandy Springs Combined Statistical Area.The city is dominated by a pervasive college town culture and music scene centered in downtown Athens, next to the University of Georgia's North Campus. Major music acts associated with Athens include numerous alternative rock bands such as R.E.M., the B-52's, Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers, of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Harvey Milk. The city is also known as a recording site for such groups as the Atlanta-based Indigo Girls. The 2020 book Cool Town: How Athens, Georgia, Launched Alternative Music and Changed American Culture describes Athens as the model of the indie culture of the 1980s.

The Morton Theatre, located in downtown Athens, Georgia, at 195 West Washington Street, is one of the first vaudeville theatres in the United States uniquely built, owned, and operated by an African-American businessman: Monroe Morton. In 2001, its location was termed Athens' "Hot Corner". The Theatre currently operates as a rental facility that hosts a wide range of dramatic, musical, and dance performances as well as special events.

The Wilkins House, at 387 S. Milledge Ave. in Athens, Georgia, was built in 1860. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.It is Classical Revival in style. The property was owned by the University of Georgia before 1860, when it was bought by Alfred Dearing. Dearing began construction of the house, which was not completed until after the American Civil War, and sold it in 1878. After passing through several owners, in 1905 John Julian Wilkins and his wife purchased the house for $10,000. Wilkins was president of the Georgia National Bank and of the American State Bank, and was "the leading banker in Athens and one of the South's most important financial figures." The house has a "large cast iron dog guarding the grounds".

The C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry College of Business is a constituent college of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, United States. The business college offers undergraduate programs, MBA programs, specialized master's programs and doctoral programs. It was founded as the first business school in the American South in 1912. The Terry College has eight programs that have top ten rankings and the Bachelor of Business Administration degree is recognized as a top 21 undergraduate program with a large residential enrollment, and the MBA Program is considered a top 31 graduate business program and has a selectivity rate of approximately 35%.The Terry MBA is offered as a full-time degree on campus in Athens, as a part-time degree or Executive MBA in the Buckhead district of Atlanta, and a fully online MBA option was added in 2023.All of the college's programs are accredited by AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
