Methodist Episcopal Church (Ottawa, Minnesota)

Ottawa ( OT-oh-wə) is an unincorporated community in Ottawa Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota, United States. The community is located south of Le Sueur at the junction of Le Sueur County Roads 23 and 36 (Ottawa Road). The Minnesota River and Cherry Creek meet at Ottawa. State Highway 112 (MN 112) is also in the immediate area. Ottawa is located within ZIP code 56058 based in Le Sueur. Nearby places include Le Sueur, Kasota, St. Henry, Le Center, Cleveland, St. Peter, the Ottawa Bluffs Nature Preserve, and Ottawa Wildlife Management Area. Ottawa had a station on the former Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway. The community was founded under the name of Minnewashta (from the Eastern Dakota language word mniwašte, meaning "good water"), but on June 20, 1856, it was surveyed and renamed Ottawa. The present name is for the Ottawa Indians.

Traverse des Sioux is a historic site in the U.S. state of Minnesota. Once part of a pre-industrial trade route, it is preserved to commemorate that route, a busy river crossing on it, and a nineteenth-century settlement, trading post, and mission at that crossing place. It was a transshipment point for pelts in fur trading days, and the namesake for an important United States treaty that forced the Dakota people to cede part of their homeland and opened up much of southern Minnesota to European-American settlement. Formerly a Minnesota state park, the site of the old settlement and river ford is now a State Historic Site and a Minnesota State Monument. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Traverse des Sioux is located on the Minnesota River, once a major transportation route, in Nicollet County just north of the city of St. Peter. The site of the crossing was rediscovered in the early 2000s; its north and south ends were marked by PVC pipe, as the river has changed its route and the crossing is not obvious.

Ottawa Township is a township in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 290 at the 2000 census. Ottawa Township was organized in 1858.The unincorporated community of Ottawa is located within Ottawa Township.

The Eugene Saint Julien Cox House, now known as the E. St. Julien Cox House, is a Carpenter Gothic-style house in St. Peter, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1871 for Eugene Saint Julien Cox, the first mayor of St. Peter, and his family. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1970. The building has been restored inside and out to its late 19th-century appearance by the Nicollet County Historical Society, which opens it as a house museum a few days per week during the summer.

The Emilie and Stephen Schumacher House is a historic home located in St. Peter, Minnesota, United States. Designed in the Queen Anne style, it was built for a local merchant named Stephen Shumacher and completed in 1887. The home was designed by Henry Gerlach, a Mankato-based architect who designed many residential and commercial buildings in the surrounding area.After being passed on to the Schumacher's descendants the home was sold in 1967 (though it remained a private home). During the 1998 Comfrey–St. Peter tornado outbreak the home was badly damaged including the complete loss of the home's turret, roof and porch. In a yearlong restoration project aided by the Minnesota Historical Society the home was meticulously restored. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 as an excellent local example of a Queen Anne style home.

St. Peter is a city and the county seat of Nicollet County, Minnesota United States. It is 10 miles north of the Mankato – North Mankato metropolitan area. The population was 12,066 at the 2020 census. It is home to Gustavus Adolphus College. U.S. Highway 169 and Minnesota State Highways 22 and 99 are three of the city's main routes. St. Peter's sister city is Petatlán, Guerrero, Mexico.

The Church of the Holy Communion is an historic stone Episcopal church building located at 116 North Minnesota Avenue St. Peter, Minnesota, United States. Designed by noted ecclesiastical architect Henry Martyn Congdon of New York City in the Gothic Revival style of architecture, it was built in 1869 of Kasota limestone. It features buttresses and a steeply sloping gabled roof with smaller gabled eye-windows on each slope of the roof. On May 19, 1983, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Broadway Bridge is a Pennsylvania through truss reinforced-concrete highway bridge which carries Minnesota 99 over the Minnesota River in St. Peter, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1931 by the Minneapolis Bridge Company following a skewed steel design by the Minnesota Highway Department.For much of 2017, the Minnesota Department of Transportation closed the bridge for a major rehabilitation which included enclosing it in plastic for the removal of lead paint. The project, which cost about $4.4 million, preserved the bridge, which had been in poor condition, and restored its original dark green color.

The St. Peter Armory is a former National Guard Armory in St. Peter, Minnesota, United States. Built from 1912 to 1913, it is one of the oldest armories still standing in Minnesota and was the first one to be owned by the state upon its completion. It was designed in a restrained Gothic Revival style which captures a transition in Minnesota armory design from heavy, fortresslike buildings to the simpler designs of the 1920s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 for having local significance in the themes of architecture, military history, and social history. It was nominated for being an excellent example of Minnesota's pre-World War I armories, as well as for its early status, transitional architecture, and role in St. Peter as a center not only of military affairs but also social and recreational events.

The Nicollet County Courthouse and Jail are historic governmental buildings located at 501 South Minnesota Avenue in St. Peter, Minnesota, United States. The courthouse was designed in a Romanesque Revival style of architecture by noted St. Paul architects Edward P. Bassford and E. W. Stebbins. Construction started and was completed in 1881 at a cost of $26,638. Bohn and Wilce of Winona were the builders. Minor extensions and additions were made in 1917 and 1967. In 1978 a $913,512 3-story addition designed by Wick-Kagermeier-Skaar of Mankato was built on the rear side of the building. A March 28, 1998 tornado damaged the building and after repairs it was reopened in June 2000. The next year a 3-year multimillion-dollar extension and renovation began. The building is now called the Nicollet County Government Center.The jail was designed in a Queen Anne style of architecture by Winona architect Andrew J. Van Deusen. Construction was started in 1906 and completed in 1907 at an estimated cost of about $22,000.On September 6, 2002, they were added to the National Register of Historic Places

Union Presbyterian Church is a historic church at 730 S. Third Street in St. Peter, Minnesota. The community's origins date back to 1843, when Reverend Stephen Return Riggs established a mission post at Traverse des Sioux. The mission operated until 1851, when the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux was signed. In 1853, the First Free Presbyterian Church of Traverse Des Sioux was established with 12 members. They used the mission church until 1858, when a new stone church was built at a cost of $5000. A mile and a half south, in the town of St. Peter, Reverend Aaron H. Kerr led services in the Winslow Hotel. On October 25, 1857, Rev. Kerr established the First Presbyterian Church of St. Peter. During the Dakota War of 1862, many refugees from the Traverse des Sioux area moved to the safety of St. Peter. On July 25, 1869, the two congregations merged and became the Union Presbyterian Church of St. Peter. They built a new church building in 1871 for $15,000, taking the bell from the church at Traverse des Sioux. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Gustavus Adolphus College ( gəs-TAY-vəs) is a private liberal arts college in St. Peter, Minnesota. It was founded in 1862 by Swedish Americans led by Eric Norelius and is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Gustavus gets its name from Gustavus Adolphus, the King of Sweden from 1611 to 1632. Its residential campus includes a 125-acre arboretum.
