The White Sands International Film Festival (WSIFF) started in Alamogordo, New Mexico, as a week long event in March 2008 to showcases narrative and documentary films. The festival was created to support the work of Hispanic and New Mexican Filmmakers. The festival moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 2009. The festival originated in Alamogordo, New Mexico and moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 2009.The White Sands International Film Festival was established by former Alamogordo Film Liaison Joan Griggs, Otero County Economic Development Director Ed Carr and Kathleen Curtis. The inaugural event including guests such as casting director Donn Finn, filmmaker David Gibbons and writer Sam Smiley. "The White Sands International Film Festival" has taken place in late August or early September each year since relocating to Las Cruces. Among many recognized films by regional and international filmmakers, the festival has hosted many celebrities over the years such as Val Kilmer, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jeffery Tambor, Mark Medoff, Chris McDonald and Linda Hamilton. In 2013, a "48-Hour Film Frenzy" was added to the event to challenge filmmakers to write, cast, shoot and edit a short film in under 48 hours. The 2014 "White Sands International Film Festival" was scheduled for September 3–7, 2014. In 2015 the organizers of the festival decided to discontinue the festival citing there was not enough of an audience for it to continue. However, an offshoot of that festival, taking place in nearby Las Cruces, New Mexico and sponsored by the New Mexico State University College of Arts and Sciences is scheduled for March 2016 and featuring celebrities such as local screenwriter and Academy Award winner Mark Medoff, as well as Danny Trejo and Alvaro Rodriguez.

Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park is a state park of New Mexico, United States, preserving a riverside forest (a bosque) along the Rio Grande. The park is located near Las Cruces and just west of Mesilla. The park itself encompasses approximately 305 acres (1.23 km2), at an elevation of 3,900 feet (1,200 m). The park consists of river woodlands and restored wetlands. It is used by migratory birds, and is popular for birdwatching, walking, and bicycling. It is a day-use only park, and camping is not allowed. An active Friends of Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park group exists to contribute to the park's restoration, recreation, and education missions.

Young Park is a park and music venue in Las Cruces, New Mexico. It is located at 1905 E. Nevada Avenue.

The Las Cruces bowling alley massacre occurred in Las Cruces, New Mexico, United States, on February 10, 1990. Seven people were shot, five fatally, by two unidentified robbers at the Las Cruces Bowling Alley at 1201 East Amador Avenue. The gunmen shot the victims in an office, then set fire to a desk in the room and left the scene. The case is unsolved. The incident is one of the two deadliest mass shootings in New Mexico history, the other being the 2013 South Valley homicides, which also resulted in the deaths of five people.

The Green Bridge, on the outskirts of Las Cruces, New Mexico in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, was built in 1943. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.It is a single-span Pratt through truss bridge built by the Midland Bridge Co. The bridge has pinned connections that tie together seven 19-foot panel sections. It is 134 feet (41 m) long and 17 feet (5.2 m) wide.It currently is on the property of the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, at 4100 Dripping Springs Rd., just outside Las Cruces. It spans the Tortugas Arroyo, a dry wash. It originally was the middle one of a three-span bridge over the Pecos River, which was built in 1902. That location was in Chaves County. It was moved in 1943 to bring a small county road over the Rio Hondo, near the village of Picacho in Lincoln County. It was removed from service in 1989 by construction of a bypass. It was eventually donated to the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, which moved it to its present location in 2007. In its previous locations, it has also been known as the Rio Hondo Bridge at Picacho, as Bridge 3452, and as Pecos River Bridge.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The cathedral building, originally a parish church, was begun in September 1965 and finished in May 1966 in a contemporary southwestern style. The church was designated the cathedral of the Diocese of Las Cruces in 1982.

The Veterans Memorial Park located in Las Cruces, New Mexico was constructed by the Las Cruces Home Builders Association under the direction of the City and was dedicated May 5, 1999. In honor and memorial of the men and women who fought and served in the United States armed forces and in particular, those who served from Las Cruces area, the Veterans Memorial Park exhibits monuments to honor their sacrifices made over the course of history. The history recognized begins from as early as the American Revolutionary War to the present day. The Veterans Memorial Park is organized and guided with a trail that directs visitors to the various monuments scattered throughout the park.

Pan American Center is a multi–purpose arena in Las Cruces, New Mexico, located on the campus of New Mexico State University. The arena has a current seating capacity of 12,515 people.The arena serves as home of the New Mexico State Aggies men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball teams. The arena hosted games of the NCAA men's basketball tournament in 1969 and 1972, as well as the 2007 and 2008 Western Athletic Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments and 2007, 2016, and 2021 WAC volleyball tournaments.

The New Mexico State University Golf Course is an 18–hole golf course within the campus of New Mexico State University, in the city of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The golf course was established in 1963 and is opened to the public. It features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels and measures 7078 yards from the longest tees. The golf course has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.7 USGA rating. It is also the home of New Mexico State Aggies' men's and women's golf team.Students of New Mexico State University's PGA GM™ program have the opportunity to use the facility for practice and play. The PGA Golf Management Program is offered only to few universities, and is the only program to be offered in New Mexico. It is the third in the nation to be endorsed by the PGA in 1987. The program is accredited by the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA), and administered by the College of Business, that offers the Bachelor of Business Administration, major in Marketing-PGA Golf Management.

The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is a 47-acre (190,000 m2) interactive museum in Las Cruces, New Mexico, that chronicles the state’s 3,000-year history of farming and ranching. The museum is part of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.

KRUX (91.5 FM) is one of New Mexico State University's two radio stations, located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, United States. Student-run and operated, it airs an eclectic mix of musical genres. KRUX was the first non-commercial educational FM station to go on the air in Las Cruces. Each spring semester, the station puts on a week-long festival known as KRUXfest which features local music acts.

New Mexico State University (NMSU or NM State) is a public land-grant research university in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Founded in 1888, it is the state's oldest public institution of higher education and one of two flagship universities in New Mexico. NMSU has campuses in Alamogordo, Doña Ana County, and Grants, as well as research centers and programs in all 33 counties in the state.Initially established as Las Cruces College, NMSU was designated a land-grant college in 1889 and renamed New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts; it received its present name in 1960. NMSU offers over 180 degree programs, including 28 doctoral, 58 master's, and 96 baccalaureate programs. It had approximately 21,700 enrolled in Fall 2021, with a faculty-to-student ratio of roughly 1 to 16. New Mexico State's athletic teams, the Aggies, compete at the NCAA Division I level in Conference USA. NMSU is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity". It is particularly noted for its graduate programs in astrophysics, astronomy, education, engineering, business, and nursing. NMSU is the chief space grant college in New Mexico and leads one of 52 national consortia dedicated to space research.
