Royal Air Force Syerston, commonly known simply as RAF Syerston (ICAO: EGXY), is a Royal Air Force station in the parish of Flintham, near Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. Opened in 1940, it was used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a bomber base during the Second World War, operating Vickers Wellingtons, Avro Manchesters, and the Avro Lancaster heavy bombers. Post-war, it became home to Jet Provosts of the 2 Flying Training School. It is now home to the Royal Air Force Central Gliding School.

Syerston is a small Nottinghamshire parish about six miles south-west of Newark-on-Trent, which is bisected by the A46 trunk road. It contains 179 inhabitants in seventy-three households (2011) which are almost all in a settlement to the east of the road. The parish is bounded on the north-east by Elston, on the south-east by Flintham and to the east by Sibthorpe. Its southern boundary is the supposed pre-historic trackway called Longhedge Lane. The Highways Agency constructed in 2011/12 a new seventeen miles long two-lane dual carriageway from the A606 two level junction at Widmerpool to an improved roundabout at Farndon. This passes through the parish between the old A46, which is thought to follow the line of the old Roman Fosse Way, and the settlement of Syerston. RAF Syerston is almost all in Flintham parish, immediately to the south of Syerston parish and to the west of the A46 trunk road.

The Battle of Stoke Field on 16 June 1487 may be considered the last battle of the Wars of the Roses, since it was the last major engagement between contenders for the throne whose claims derived from descent from the houses of Lancaster and York respectively. The Battle of Bosworth Field, two years previously, had established King Henry VII on the throne, ending the last period of Yorkist rule and initiating that of the Tudors. The Battle of Stoke Field was the decisive engagement in an attempt by leading Yorkists to unseat him in favour of the pretender Lambert Simnel. Though it is often portrayed as almost a footnote to the major battles between York and Lancaster, it may have been slightly larger than Bosworth, with much heavier casualties, possibly because of the terrain which forced the two sides into close, attritional combat. In the end, though, Henry's victory was crushing. Almost all the leading Yorkists were killed in the battle.

Morton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Fiskerton cum Morton, in the Newark and Sherwood district, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 1 mile west of Fiskerton. The parish church of St Denis was built in 1756.In 1881 the parish had a population of 109. On 25 March 1884 the parish was abolished and merged with Fiskerton to form "Fiskerton cum Morton".

Bleasby is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England, located 15 mi northeast of Nottingham. It has a population of 804, increasing to 824 (and including Goverton) at the 2011 Census.The village was served by a Post Office until early 2015, railway station and tea shop. The Saxon charter of 956 records Bleasby as Blisetune, named after a Danish soldier Blesi and tun the Anglo-Saxon word for settlement. Bleasby was the childhood home of William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army.

Fiskerton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Fiskerton cum Morton, in the Newark and Sherwood district, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. It is on the west bank of the River Trent about 3 miles southeast of Southwell. The waterfront is home to million-pound residential properties, previously residences of merchants and businessmen who commuted in the 1800s to nearby Nottingham by rail from Fiskerton Station. In 1881 the parish had a population of 283. The village's location beside the Trent attracts walkers, picnickers and casual visitors in summer, centred on the riverside pub/restaurant (was called the Bromley Arms, renamed as The Bromley at Fiskerton in 2014) and used as a friendly café-type base also serving snacks and refreshments.

Kneeton is a village in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. The population as of the 2011 census remained less than 100. It is included in the civil parish of Screveton. The village lies on the A46 road between Nottingham and Newark and is on the escarpment of the Trent Hills that sit above the flood plain of the River Trent. RAF Syerston is nearby. There is a railway station at Lowdham. The church is 14th century Grade II listed, and dedicated to St. Helen. A mid-18th century Grade II listed barn survives at Hall Farm, Kneeton.

Fiskerton cum Morton is a civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district, within the county of Nottinghamshire, England. The overall area had a population of 803 at the 2021 census. The parish lies in the south east of the county. It is 112 miles north of London, 12 miles north east of the city of Nottingham, 5 miles west of the town of Newark-on-Trent and 21⁄2 miles south east of the town of Southwell. The parish lies along the bank of the River Trent and is primarily a commuter residential area to both Nottingham and Newark.

Originally built in the 13th or 14th century, it was largely rebuilt in 1738 and most of the furniture is from the 19th century. It is adjacent to Stoke Hall.

Stoke Hall is a Grade II listed 10,382 sq ft (964.5 m2) mansion, near the village of East Stoke in Nottinghamshire, England. It is located near the River Trent. The red-brick house was built in 1812 for the Bromley baronets by Lewis Wyatt, who included parts of an earlier building. It was part demolished in the 1920s. It was Grade II listed on 16 January 1967.The house is registered as a venue for weddings. The church of St Oswald is adjacent.
