Kildale railway station

Easby Moor is a hill located in the civil parish of Little Ayton in the North York Moors national park within the Cleveland Hills, North Yorkshire, England. At the peak, 324 metres (1,063 ft) above sea level, is a monument to Captain James Cook, who was native to the area. The Cleveland Way runs over the moor. The moor overlooks the villages of Easby and Great Ayton and Little Ayton.

The Warren Moor Mine, was a short-lived mining concern south of Kildale, North Yorkshire, England. Activity at the site was limited to drift mining, and although shafts were sunk to mine the underground schemes, these ventures failed. The site of the workings have been stabilised, and the old chimney is the only Victorian ironstone mining chimney left in the United Kingdom. The site was made safe in the 2010s to allow public access.

Kildale is a village and civil parish in Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England. It lies approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) south-east from Great Ayton, within the North York Moors National Park and on the Cleveland Way National Trail. The parish occupies 5,730 acres (23.2 km2), with 3,416 acres (13.82 km2) being taken up by moorland.A church at Kildale was referred to in the Domesday Book. Viking relics (bones, swords, daggers and a battle axe) were discovered on the spot where a later church, St Cuthbert's, was erected. Kildale railway station is on the Esk Valley Line.

Hutton Village is a settlement in the Hutton Lowcross area of Guisborough in North Yorkshire, England. Whilst the area itself is mentioned in the Domesday Book, the village was built largely due to the development of the ironstone industry in the Cleveland Hills. The name Hutton Lowcross referred to the township in the area, whereas the settlement is now known as Hutton Village. The village is set in a narrow dale that carries Hutton Beck northwards towards Guisborough.

Roseberry Mine was an ironstone mine in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England, which operated between 1883 and 1924, with a break of 24 years. Both periods of mining used a form of tramway to transport the ironstone out, which connected with the railway line north of Great Ayton railway station. The mine was located on the south side of Roseberry Topping digging into the hillside. Of the three ironstone mines in the Great Ayton area, Roseberry was the largest. In 1912, the northern slope of Roseberry Topping collapsed and slipped down the hill which has left it with a distinctive shape (it was conically shaped before the landslide). Originally, the ironstone mining was blamed, but modern investigations had concluded that extreme weather events were the cause.

Easby is a village and civil parish in Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It lies approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east of Great Ayton. The larger village of Low Easby lies 0.3 miles (480 m) down the road, but neither have any amenities, only a postbox. The name Easby comes from Old Norse and means farmstead or village of a man called Esa.

Hutton Hall is a grade II listed country house in the Hutton Lowcross area to the south west of Guisborough, North Yorkshire, England.

Hutton Gate was a railway station on the Middlesbrough and Guisborough Railway. It was opened on 25 February 1854 and closed along with the entire Nunthorpe-Guisborough branch on 2 March 1964. The station stands on Hutton Lane, just east of its junction with The Avenue. Originally, the station was exclusively for the use of the Pease family at the nearby Hutton Hall; the family owned the major iron ore mines in the region at the time and the railway line was designed to service these mines. Although a private station, excursion traffic was allowed to detrain at Hutton Gate, such as Liberal Association specials from Thornaby in the 1890s. These were run for a speaking event held in a marquee on the lawn outside Hutton Hall.The station was closed between May 1864 and July 1881, and then again from October 1903 to January 1904. It was purchased from the Pease family by the North Eastern Railway (NER) in 1904, and opened for public use. It served Hutton Village and, later, the Guisborough suburb of Hutton Lowcross. The station had its staffing withdrawn in 1961, and was listed for closure in March 1963. Full closure to all traffic came in March 1964.Following the branch's closure, the track was removed but the station remains intact and is now a private house. The modern road Pease Court begins where the station's level crossing once gave access to Hutton Hall.

Roseberry Topping is a distinctive hill in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated near Great Ayton and Newton under Roseberry. Its summit has a distinctive half-cone shape with a jagged cliff, which has led to many comparisons with the much higher Matterhorn in the Swiss-Italian Alps. It forms a symbolic image of the area and features in the logo for the nearby Teesside International Airport.At 1,049 feet (320 m), Roseberry Topping was traditionally thought to be the highest hill on the North York Moors; however, there are 15 higher peaks with the nearby Urra Moor being the highest, at 1,490 feet (450 m). Roseberry Topping offers views of Captain Cook's Monument at Easby Moor and the monument at Eston Nab, previously a beacon.

Great Ayton is a railway station on the Esk Valley Line, which runs between Middlesbrough and Whitby via Nunthorpe. The station, situated 8 miles 37 chains (13.6 km) south-east of Middlesbrough, serves the village of Great Ayton, Hambleton in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Ruther Cross is the shaft of an old stone cross in Guisborough in Redcar and Cleveland, England. It stands close to the point where the old road Ruthergate used to cross Hutton Lane. The cross was designated Grade II listed in April 1984.

Gisborough Moor is a moor in England's North York Moors, lying to the south of the town of Guisborough. The summit is a broad flat ridge, with the highest point at the southern end, some 1 mile (1.5 km) south of a trig point. It is crossed by a number of footpaths leading between the Cleveland Way and Commondale and other settlements to the south. Highcliff Nab, near the moor's north-western corner, overlooks Guisborough from the edge of the scarp. 1.4 km from the highest point of the moor, on nearby Commondale Moor, (Grid reference NZ6469 1175) is a First World War memorial to two friends who worked on the Gisborough Estate and who left for London in 1914 to join the Grenadier Guards. One died on the Somme in 1916 (his body was never found) and the other died of his wounds in 1920. The memorial is now grade II listed.3.2 km away, on nearby Great Ayton Moor (Grid reference NZ6020 1241), was the location of a Starfish site during the Second World War. A series of tanks were erected on the moor and filled with inflammable liquid. When Luftwaffe bombing attacks were imminent, the liquid was set on fire and quenched so that the steam looked like a burning town or city. This fooled the Germans into harmlessly bombing the moor instead of the nearby industrial town of Middlesbrough, which was just to the north west.
