South Point Township is a township in southeastern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is represented on the Gaston County Board of Commissioners by Mickey Price of Belmont, who serves as Board Chairman. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 40,484.Incorporated communities in South Point Township are Belmont, Cramerton, McAdenville, Lowell, southern Mount Holly, and southeastern Gastonia. The township also includes the unincorporated area of Brown Town. Fire protection in unincorporated areas of the township is provided by Community Volunteer Fire Department (Station 32) in the north, Union Road VFD (Station 51) in the southwest, New Hope VFD (Station 50) in the south-central, and South Point VFD (Station 42) in the southeast. Most of South Point Township is in the South Point High School attendance district. Students in western parts of the township go to Forestview High School, northwestern parts to Ashbrook High School, and far northern parts to East Gaston High School. Attractions in southern unincorporated South Point Township include the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and Carolina Speedway.

Cramerton is a small town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is a suburb of Charlotte and located east of Gastonia. The population was 4,165 at the 2010 census. A well-known feature is the Cramer Mountain gated development, featuring homes around an 18-hole golf course at Cramer Mountain Country Club.

Stuart W. Cramer High School is a public high school in the Gaston County Schools district located in Cramerton, North Carolina (though its mailing address says Belmont). Its attendance range covers the central portion of eastern Gaston County and includes all of the towns of Cramerton and McAdenville and portions of Belmont and Mount Holly. Jessica Steiner serves as principal. Assistant principals include Brittany Beckham, Phillip Morris and Chris Gardner. Mike Patton serves as athletic director. The school was named for Stuart W. Cramer of Thomasville, North Carolina. Cramer was the founder of Cramerton, North Carolina, a leading industrialist in the textiles and air conditioning industries, and one of the founding partners of Duke Power.

McAdenville Historic District is a national historic district located at McAdenville, Gaston County, North Carolina. It encompasses 93 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and 7 contributing structures in the mill village associated with McAden Mills, a cotton mill chartered by the state legislature in 1881. The buildings were built between about 1884 and 1959, and include notable examples of Late Victorian and Italianate architecture. Notable buildings include 15 brick mill worker houses, remnants of McAden Mill No. 1 (1881–82) and McAden Mill No. 2 (1884–85), McAden Mill No. 3 (1906–07), and Pharr Corporate Offices (1906, c. 1955, c.1965) redesigned by Earle Sumner Draper.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

In the early hours of April 8, 2008, Jamie Fraley (born March 5, 1986), of Gastonia, North Carolina, United States, told a friend over the phone that she was going to the hospital for the third time in the last 24 hours due to a stomach flu. When asked who was taking her there, Fraley said it was another friend and declined to further identify that person. She has not been seen since; her cellphone was found a few days later but provided no useful information as to her whereabouts. Investigators initially believed she had met with foul play, and began focusing on Ricky Simonds Sr., her fiancé's father, who lived in the same apartment complex, as a person of interest. He had driven Fraley to the hospital on one of her previous visits that day, and had a criminal record that included prison time for manslaughter after he had strangled a girlfriend in the 1980s. However, the investigation ended two months later when Simonds was found dead, apparently of heat stroke, in the trunk of a former girlfriend's car.In 2015, a prison inmate confessed that he had killed Fraley, but he was incarcerated at the time Fraley disappeared. The investigation continues, and in 2012 the case was the subject of an episode of the Investigation Discovery channel's Disappeared.

McAdenville is a small town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is a suburb of Gastonia and located east of Gastonia. The population was 890 at the 2020 census.

Belmont Hosiery Mill was a historic textile mill building located at Belmont, Gaston County, North Carolina. The original section was built in 1945–1946, and was a two-story-on-basement brick mill building. In 1952, a two-bay-deep, two-story-on basement addition was built and in 1958, a two-story-on-basement rectangular addition was built and features Art Moderne detailing. In 1969, a roughly "U"-shaped two-story-on-basement addition was built at the rear of the mill. A small one-story loading dock addition completed around 1998. The mill closed in 2000. The mill has been demolished. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

It encompasses 264 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 2 contributing structures in the central business district and adjacent residential areas of Belmont. The district was developed after 1873, and includes notable examples of Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed U.S. Post Office, Former. Other notable buildings include the R.L. Stowe Mills Office Building, Bank of Belmont (1926), Piedmont and Northern Railroad Depot (c. 1915), Belmont Hotel (c. 1907), Abel C. Lineberger House No. 2 (c. 1919) designed by Charles Christian Hook (1870–1938), Samuel Pinckney Stowe House (c. 1919), James W. Stowe House (c. 1910), Sacred Heart College, and Belmont High School (1939).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Belmont City Hall, also known as the Former United States Post Office, is a historic post office building located in Belmont, Gaston County, North Carolina. It was designed by the Treasury Department's Office of the Supervising Architect under the direction of Louis A. Simon, and built in 1939. It is a one-story, five bay Colonial Revival style brick building. At the rear is a stepped-back rectangular secondary block and loading dock. It housed the Belmont post office until 1970, then was converted for use as the Belmont City Hall in 1973.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It is located in the Belmont Historic District.

Belmont Abbey is an American-Cassinese monastery of Benedictine monks and a minor basilica in the town of Belmont, North Carolina, a suburb of Charlotte. The Abbey Basilica of Mary Help of Christians was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
