Alachua County Public Schools

Flora was a community just northeast of the city of Gainesville, in Alachua County, in the late 19th century. A former colonel in the Union Army, Louis A. Barnes, who had served as sheriff and tax collector for the county, and registrar for the U.S Land Office, laid out a 2,000-acre (810 ha) subdivision between the Florida Transit and Peninsular Railroad and the Live Oak, Tampa and Charlotte Harbor Railroad north of the Gainesville city limits. In 1883, five-acre (2.0 ha) lots were being sold for fruit and vegetable farming. A post office was opened in 1895 and closed in 1896. The community was annexed into the city of Gainesville, beginning in 1905.

The University Press of Florida (UPF) is the scholarly publishing arm of the State University System of Florida, representing Florida's twelve state universities. It is overseen by the Florida Board of Governors and publishes works from and about the state. Its predecessor was the University of Florida Press.

It was opened on March 7, 2003 by Satchel Raye.Satchel's has become very well known in Gainesville, and can have wait times of over an hour on the weekends. It is common for Gainesville residents to see bumper stickers from Satchel's when driving around town.

The Professional Academies' Magnet @ Loften High School (or W. Travis Loften High School) is a public high school in Gainesville, Florida in the United States. It is part of Alachua County School District and occupies a 174-acre (0.70 km2) campus in a medium-sized community.

The Southeast Gainesville Residential District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on January 14, 1988) located in Gainesville, Florida. It encompasses approximately 335 acres (1.36 km2), bounded by East University Avenue, Southeast Ninth Street, Southeast Fifth Avenue, and Sweetwater Branch. It contains 94 historic buildings.

The Northeast Gainesville Residential District, also known locally as the Duckpond, is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on February 12, 1980) located in Gainesville, Florida. It encompasses approximately 1,660 acres (6.7 km2), bounded by 1st, and 9th Streets, 10th and East University Avenues. It contains 229 historic buildings.

The Mary Phifer McKenzie House, now the Sweetwater Branch Inn Bed and Breakfast, is an historic house located at 617 East University Avenue in Gainesville, Florida. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The house was constructed in about 1895 and is an irregularly massed two-and-a-half-story Queen Anne-style home.It is known as one of the most elaborate Victorian buildings ever constructed in Gainesville. It has intricate Eastlake architecture details and a fanciful restored massing. It has three-story octagonal turrets on the west face, a wrap-around veranda, and octagonal gazebo. The Sweetwater Inn includes two restored Victorian-era mansions (the McKenzie House and the Cushman-Colson House.

The 1867 Matheson House is a historic building in Gainesville, Florida, United States. It is located at 528 Southeast 1st Avenue. It was the home of James Douglas Matheson and Augusta Florida Steele Matheson, the daughter of Florida pioneer Augustus Steele, who founded Hillsborough County and Cedar Key. James Douglas Matheson owned a dry goods store in downtown Gainesville and was active in local and state politics, as was his son, eight-term Gainesville mayor Chris Matheson, who was also a state legislator.Chris's widow, Sarah Matheson, deeded the house to the Alachua County Historical Society, which later merged with the Matheson History Museum after it opened in 1994. Sarah Matheson lived in the house until her death in 1996. She was the first female elder at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Gainesville and was an early president of the Alachua County Historical Society and a co-founder and member of the original board of directors of the Matheson Histical Center (now the Matheson History Museum). The 1867 Matheson House is now part of the Matheson History Museum Complex, which recounts the history of Alachua County. On June 4, 1973, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The house is open by appointment only.

The Thomas Center, formerly known as Hotel Thomas and Sunkist Villa, is an historic building in Gainesville, Florida, United States. It was built starting in 1910 in the Classical Revival style by noted Atlanta-based architect, William Augustus Edwards, designer of academic buildings at 12 institutions in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida, including the original University of Florida campus, as well as a dozen or more county courthouses in those states plus other building and houses,The building began as the private home of William Reuben Thomas, his wife Kathryn, and their five children, when it was known as Sunkist Villa. In 1928 Thomas more than doubled the size of the home and converted it to a hotel. On July 16, 1973, the building was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Thomas Center celebrated its 100th anniversary on February 12, 2010.

The Star Garage (also known as the Crawford and Davis Livery Stable or Poole-Gable Motors) is a U.S. historic building in Gainesville, Florida. It is located at 119 Southeast 1st Avenue. On December 17, 1985, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Cox Furniture Store (also known as the Simonson Opera House or Edwards Opera House or New Baird Theater) c. 1890 is a historic site in Gainesville, Florida, United States. Built in the form and style of a small Romanesque Revival church, it is located at 19 Southeast First Avenue. On June 10, 1994, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Gainesville Masonic Lodge No. 41 in Gainesville, Florida is a historic Masonic building, located at 215 North Main Street. It was constructed by Gainesville Masonic Lodge No. 41 in 1908. On May 29, 1998, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
