Paris-Sorbonne University

The École Nationale des Chartes (French: École nationale des chartes, literally National School of Charters) is a French grande école and a constituent college of Université PSL, specialising in the historical sciences. It was founded in 1821, and was located initially at the National Archives, and later at the Palais de la Sorbonne (5th arrondissement). In October 2014, it moved to 65 rue de Richelieu, opposite the Richelieu-Louvois site of the National Library of France. The school is administered by the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research. It holds the status of a grand établissement. Its students, who are recruited by competitive examination and hold the status of trainee civil servant, receive the qualification of archivist-paleographer after completing a thesis. They generally go on to pursue careers as heritage curators in the archive and visual fields, as library curators or as lecturers and researchers in the human and social sciences. In 2005, the school also introduced master's degrees, for which students were recruited based on an application file, and, in 2011, doctorates.

The Sorbonne square is a public space located in the latin quarter in Paris' 5th arrondissement. Its limits are defined by: On its eastern side: Victor Cousin street (and the Sorbonne Chapel across it). On its western side: Saint-Michel boulevard On its northern side (partially): Champollion streetThe square takes its name from the Sorbonne building on its eastern side (across Victor Cousin street).

The Chapel of Sainte Ursule de la Sorbonne, also known as the Sorbonne Chapel, is a Roman Catholic chapel located on the Sorbonne historical site, in the Latin quarter of Paris. It was rebuilt in the 17th century by order of Cardinal Richelieu.

The Sorbonne ( sor-BON, US also sor-BAWN, French: [sɔʁbɔn] (listen)) is a building in the Latin Quarter of Paris which from 1253 onwards housed the College of Sorbonne, part of one of the first universities in the Western world, later renamed to University of Paris and commonly known as "the Sorbonne". Today, it continues to house the successor universities of the University of Paris, such as Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Sorbonne University, Sorbonne Nouvelle University and Paris City University, as well as the Chancellerie des universités de Paris. Sorbonne Université is also now the university resulting from the merger on 1 January 2018 of Paris 6 UPMC and Paris 4 Sorbonne.

University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (French: Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), also known as Paris 1 or Panthéon-Sorbonne University, is a public research university located in Paris, France. It was created in 1971 from two faculties of the historic University of Paris – colloquially referred to as the Sorbonne – after the May 1968 protests, which resulted in the division of one of the world's oldest universities. Most of the law professors of the Faculty of Law and Economics of Paris preferred to perpetuate the faculty as a university, now called Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas University, but most of its professors in Economics, considered as a secondary discipline within the historical faculty of law, preferred to found the multidisciplinary Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University with professors of the faculty of humanities of Paris and a few professors of law.Panthéon-Sorbonne has three main domains: Economic and Management Sciences, Human Sciences, and Legal and Political Sciences; comprising several subjects such as: Economics, Law, Philosophy, Geography, Humanities, Cinema, Plastic arts, Art history, Political science, Mathematics, Management, and Social sciences.Pantheon-Sorbonne's headquarters is located on the Place du Panthéon in the Latin Quarter, an area in the 5th and the 6th arrondissements of Paris. The university also occupies part of the historical Sorbonne campus. The current name of the university refers to these two symbolic buildings: the Sorbonne and the Panthéon (Saint-Jacques part). Overall, its campus includes over 25 buildings in Paris, such as the Centre Pierre Mendès France ("Tolbiac"), the Maison des Sciences Économiques, among others.Panthéon-Sorbonne was globally ranked 287th (9th of France) in the 2021 QS World University Rankings and 601-800th (32nd of France) in the 2020 The Times Higher Education. It was also ranked by the 2019 QS Rankings by Subject as being 1st in France in Archaeology, History, Law, and Economics. In the French Eduniversal rankings, it is ranked 2nd of France in Economics and 2nd in Law.

The College of Sorbonne (French: Collège de Sorbonne) was a theological college of the University of Paris, founded in 1253 (confirmed in 1257) by Robert de Sorbon (1201–1274), after whom it was named.With the rest of the Paris colleges, the Sorbonne was disestablished by decree of 5 April 1792, after the French Revolution. It was restored in 1808 but finally closed in 1882. In recent times it came to refer to the group of liberal arts faculties of the University of Paris, as opposed to the vocational faculties of law and medicine. "Sorbonne" is also used to refer to the main building of the University of Paris in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, which houses several faculties created when the University was divided into thirteen autonomous universities in 1970.

The Sorbonne Grand Amphitheatre is a monumental amphitheatre located in the Sorbonne building in Paris latin quarter. It provides a space for official speeches and events, as well as official ceremonies, degrees and prize awardings by the Sorbonne universities and the Chancellerie des Universités de Paris.Inaugurated on August 5, 1889, the Grand Amphitheatre was registered as a historic monument in 1975 (along with other structures of the Sorbonne complex). It has a capacity of approximately 1000 people.

The Collège de Calvi or Calvi or Little Sorbonne, is a college of the University of Paris. The college was founded by Robert de Sorbon in 1271 and it was part of the College of Sorbonne. It was a primary education college where students learned the rudiments of grammar It was merged with the collège des Dix-Huit (English: College of Eighteen; fr:Collège des Dix-Huit). The college, together with the Sorbonne, was suppressed by decree of 5 April 1792, after the French Revolution, and restored in 1808 by Napoleon Bonaparte. Destroyed during the reconstruction of the College of Sorbonne from 1884 until 1889, it occupied the place of the church.

The Hôtel des Trois Collèges is located at Rue Cujas in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Formerly called Hôtel de Flandre (until 1984), it is situated opposite the Sorbonne University.

The théâtre du Quartier latin is a former Parisian entertainment venue which was located 9 rue Champollion in the 5th arrondissement of Paris (Latin Quarter) and directed by Michel de Ré until 1956.

The Théâtre des Noctambules was a former Parisian cabaret established in 1894 by the chansonnier Martial Boyer (1872–1941) and located at 7 rue Champollion in the 5th arrondissement of Paris (Latin Quarter). In 1939, Pierre Leuris and Jean Claude turned it into a theatre. Fernand Voiturin became manager in 1952 until the venue closed down in June 1956, when the theatre was turned into a Revival house (Art et Essai) under the same name. The Bald Soprano by Eugène Ionesco premiered in this venue in 1950.

Rue Cujas is a street in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, named after the legal expert Jacques Cujas (1522-90), since it neighbours the Faculté de droit.
